Hey all, I am going with a few friends this year in VIP and we are going to have 2 camping spots. We have 2 small tents and one medium sized tent to fit. We also have 2 pop up canopy tents and tons of tarps, etc. I usually just go in one spot and do my car on the sunrise side, canopy and tarps behind that and tent behind canopy(good AM sun blockage).
Anyone have any suggestions on how best to set up shop with 2 spots or just go with my usual?? Pictures are always welcome!!
There won't be much to change from GA to VIP except you will have a little more room and white lines to grid out all the spaces. It just depends on how you park your vehicles and all that when you get there.
Standing in VIP looking at What stage, the sun (if I remember correctly) comes up a good ways off to the left. Use a compass or just put a stake in the ground where there is no shadow, look at it again in a good little while and you will have your east & west bearings in regards to sunrise and sunset.
Thanks for the feedback. I have done VIP for the last 5 years or so at Roo, but only with a single spot for 2 of us. This year there are 3 of us to going start the weekend at least and we have 2 camping spots. So I was looking for some cool ways to possibly set up shop with the extra space we will have having 2 spots. I have plenty of tarps, popups etc, but was just looking for any cool ideas of pics of peoples setups to make full use of the 2 spots and set up a kitchen and hanging area accordingly. Would appreciate any other input as always.
I was planning on a 10x10 ezup to place between the tent and the car, but based on the advice read on the forum and other campaign websites I am looking into a second ezup or using a tarp with emergency blankets to cover the tent to reduce the heat and allow me to remove the rainfly and increase circulation.
So the current "head scratcher" is can I put a 12x12 EZup over the tent (because the tent is 11 feet at its greatest width), then the 10x10 (at whatever point it can begin on the tapered front of the tent) connecting to the back of the element.
My largest width would be 12 feet (2 more than the stated 10 feet) My total depth would is variable, but if I consider the length of the element (14 feet) and the tent (16 feet), I am at 30 feet and I presume that I am going to need at least 3 feet from the end of the tent to the back of the element, for a total depth of 33 feet.
Looking at some overhead shots of VIP camping in past years I can see 2 10x10's and a car (which would roughly be 34 feet) so this seems possible. Width wise, I dont have a gauge, it seems pretty variable. 1 extra foot on either side seems manageable.
Note their is overlap of the tent and the 10x10, so even though I have 16+14+10 in depth its not continuous, I'm planning for a bit of car under the 10x10 and a bit of the tent under the 10x10 giving me approx 33 feet of total depth.
Here is an old thread to take a look at. I think if you have 2 spots it's best to make sure you get back to back spots Instead of side by side and park your vehicles across the end of the space like the pictures I posted in this thread. Sorry you'll have to paste, forgot how to create link
I like that as you know exactly where you shoudl be lined up. Last year in GA we had 4 guys infront of us that took up almost all of our space
There is a bit of a more controlled element in VIP, of course its always a good thing to respect Murphy's law. One thing I noted in VIP and GA is (it seems, at least) the more cars in your caravan, the more opportunity for increased available shared space.
Hope that helps! I'm certain you'll love VIP, its a Comprehensive approach to managing the pitfalls of camping fests
