I'm SOOO over winter/snow/ice. My boyfriend works for the city, in the division that brines/salts the roads during snow/ice; they try to make the main roads passable with what little equipment and manpower they have. He worked major overtime two weeks ago when we had the big ice storm (like 80 hours a week) which is good for his paycheck but sucky in every other way. To make matters worse, this week we are closing on our first house. He told his boss yesterday that if he was scheduled to work OT tomorrow and/or Thursday, he would need a few hours off for the closing... his boss said OK but the BF believes that deep down, the boss thinks he's trying to get out of working overtime. I mean, HOW DARE WE have a major life even happen during a snow/ice event! UGH.

That's shitty especially since it's not like he asked off for the entire day. He just wants off long enough to go to the closing, I assume. You'd think they'd be a little more flexible since he worked so much when they needed him.

Exactly. He said he would be back after we finished with the closing.
If anyone knows of an awesome company that understands humans are actually people with personal lives and other purposes that do not involve making a company money, I'd love to know about this place and work there.
I'd like to say work is hell, but at least they let me bring my sick kid to work with me. Ugh.
i'm home with my sick kid today. whish means I'll just be able to barely half-ass some work from home, and then go in Saturday to make up for it. Yay!
every time I think "i was just being over protective, I'll take her in late" she starts a nasty coughing fit. I wish when I were sick I could muster her little kid energy.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Got told today since I was one of the last ones hired this year, I'll be put in the pool for next year since our school is losing enrollment. I'll definitely have a spot but who knows where or what grade. Blech.
I had a table last night who were overall rather rude, obnoxious, and just really rubbed me the wrong way. but this was the worst part.
while the back of the house of my restaurant is, in fact, employed by ~80% mexican/chilean/ecuadorian folks, this comment enraged me: "this fried rice was amazing! seriously tell them, well, I guess if they can even understand any english... but tell the cooks this was great"
it was the most fucking back handed compliment I've heard.

Remember their faces, and make sure they enjoy their food even more next time. Waiting style.
the people near me at work are discussing their wedding planning... and throwing around dollar amounts in the thousands for things they're needing for the wedding. how do people afford this? and why??
they're also discussing their babies. and teething. and when they plan to have children after honeymoons.
I have nothing in common with these people. 2 more days until I'm done.

On the plane to CO, I overheard a couple behind me talking about planning their wedding. To quote the woman, "I just don't want to spend more then $20,000 on my dress. I'd feel bad for the less fortunate in the world."
While it's good she does have some empathy, I just can't even wrap my mind around spending even a fraction of that on a dress that you will wear ONE time!
Edit: and smellycat, your new sig fits perfectly with your posts more then you'd think

I got married at the Music Row wedding chapel. The whole thing cost me $300. Including my dress.

on valentine's day we had a woman demand her fur coat got locked up in our manager's office while she was dining.... it was a $10,000 fur coat. wtf is wrong with people.
and you're right! haha! I've noticed that a couple of times already, too!

I've wondered this as well. I have no idea how much was spent on my fake wedding because my grandmother arranged everything, but I know it wasn't a ton because the ceremony and reception were at her house, and all the food (including the cakes) was made by her, my mom, and (I think) my aunt. I think I spent maybe $500 total on my real wedding (well, not counting our rings, which were kind of pricey to me, but nowhere close to what many people spend, and I do really love my ring).
At the same time that I was planning mine, my mom had a friend at work who was planning hers. She spent $300 just on her shoes. They had a whole Hollywood themed wedding and it was apparently well into the 10s of thousands of dollars. They got divorced like a year later.
Totally unnecessary edit: This is what our rings look like, except they are both ebony and the guitar string that is inlaid in them is not as centered.

For the first few seconds that I read your posts, I always think you've inserted that gif to the post. It really does fit so well for so many of them

That's a really cool ring, very unique!
Thank you! My husband was really opposed to wearing a ring because he doesn't like the idea of wearing jewelry, but when he saw these, he was on board. Only problem is, they can't be resized and he lost 100 pounds over the last year, so now he has to wear it on a chain around his neck because it falls off his finger.

One of my friends eloped at the courthouse because he saw how much money his parents spent on his sister's wedding and refused to allow them to do the same with his. All total we spent $600 on ours with a large chunk of that going to the minister.

the only thing I would be excited to spend a significant amount of money on would be buying booze and getting all our friends & loved ones drunk.

well, and one of these:
The WORST is when you go to a fancy ass blown-out wedding......and it's a cash bar. Or there's only like 1 hour of hosted drinks.
