For the builders & tinkerers & those trying to stretch a budget & such: I tried to collect and categorize as many DIY threads as I could find. Post up others and I'll add them.
Make sure you scroll down through the threads...sometimes it's one person asking a DIY-type question, and another person answering it by posting a plan. Also, some of these links go to search results because there are just too many threads to list individually.
Note that gay marriage is not currently "legal" in Tennessee, although there's nothing stopping you from having a ceremony.
Also, a number of board members are ordained ministers/reverends/Popes/rabbis/priests/shamans/etc. and have offered to perform marriages. Post a thread asking for help and see who responds.
I'm going to make a post this weekend about cutting 4 2-3 foot PVC pipes and hammering them into the ground where the ex-up/shade tent legs can go inside. I'll post I DIY video this weekend when I build them for this year. I had great success last time. All for $3.

I make all my homemade cleaners, personal hygiene products, and other household stuff. I will think about what will be helpful at Roo and post some recipes up later. Making your own stuff can save you a ton of money and preserve your health (pretty much anything you buy at Target or Wal-Mart that is a cleaner or personal care product is slowly killing you).
A couple of things right now:
One thing off the top of my head is to get a jar of Coconut Oil that is organic like Trader Joe's brand and use that as sunscreen. Not only does it work, it will soak into your skin and provide you with vitamins, minerals and a ton of health benefits. You do have to apply it every couple of hours because without the chemicals, it doesnt last as long.
Second thing - Magnesium Oil. As Americans, we are all deficient in Magnesium as the American diet only provides about half of what you need. This applies to Roo because Magnesium helps with sleep and also with muscle function. It can help with those long days of being on your feet and also prevent cramping. You make it by mixing magnesium flakes (cheap on Amazon or you can find at health food stores) and nearly boiling water at a 1:1 ratio and mix until the flakes dissolve. Once it cools you put it in a spray bottle and you're good to go. I spray it on my body every night and let it soak up. It can cause itching but not too bad.
I can post recipes on toothpaste, mouthwash, and some other stuff tonight or tomorrow.
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.

I am a low voltage electrician installing fire alarm systems so i know a bit about 12v stuff. If you are trying to come up with any way to use 12v in your camp site to power anything let me know.

Doc, if you could show people an easy, no-shock-em way to charge their cell phones without draining their car batteries (or having to run their engines to avoid it), you'd pretty much have the Holy Grail on your hands.
I think what's happening is that people are having to turn the ignition switch to "ACC" or "ON" in order to send power to their DC outlets, and consequently they're energizing a bunch of unnecessary stuff, so come Monday they don't have the oooomph to start their engines.

If you are handy or adventurous you can build your own charger that has a greater capacity. They can be as simple as this: two 6v lantern batteries (the big square ones) wired together in series, hook up a 12V accessory jack (like a car cigarette lighter socket), and use a car charger appropriate for your phone. Add an inline fuse for safety, if you aren't sure your charger has one built in. Put it all in a small plastic box, on/off switch optional. I think my total cost was about $20 with alkaline batteries, and it provides way more juice than 4 D batteries. I also have rechargeable batteries for mine, which were about $15 for the pair, plus charger cost. And it will run a 12V fan or anything else requiring 12V and isn't too power hungry. Those jump-starter/power supply thingies are nice, but I wouldn't bother with the ones I've seen that cost less than about $75
Hell, you can charge a phone with one 6V lantern battery hooked to a USB car adapter. You'd need: one 6V lantern battery, one USB car adapter, one USB cable matching your phone, and two short lengths of wire. USB only requires 5V, and the USB 12V adapters I've tried work fine on 6V.

Cool...this is exactly the stove I use for bicycle touring. Costs nothing, weighs nothing, burns next to nothing.

Oh yeah! Coconut oil is the go-to facial moisturizer/sunblock for me. I hesitate to put any other sunscreen on my skin, due to there being some evidence that the chemicals they contain may actually promote skin cancer. Can't wait to read more. I usually purchase my natural products from others, mainly Etsy. But it would be great to make my own.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
I'm working on a "fighter pilot" style helmet with sound activated LED strips. Hopefully all the parts will be in next week and I'll post some in progress shots.

No, it's not cheaper. The jar of coconut oil at TJ is only like $5 and it will last forever. I opened a new jar this weekend and kept both my kids covered by redoing their sunscreen every couple of hours and maybe use 2 Tbsp of it. One of those jars could last a person all summer long easily.

Hey, moisturizing and vitamin D benefits aside, when I researched the SPF rating of coconut oil I found that it only runs between 5 and 10. I'm an SPF 50 kind of guy...any tips on a homebrewed sunscreen with a higher SPF?

Here are some recipes that might be helpful that can be done for cheap:
Body Wash
Take an old body wash or shampoo bottle. 4 parts water – purified or distilled water is best so it is free of bacteria 1.5 parts Pure Castile Liquid Soap – Dr. Bronner’s or Kirks brand is best. 1 Tbsp 100% Pure Vegetable Glycerin That is a basic recipe but you can make it better with these optional features: 1 Tsp Vitamin E Oil 1 Tbsp Carrier Oil – any cold pressed Vegetable Oil. Not expeller pressed like most cooking oils you get at the store. Olive, Jojoba, and Sweet Almond are best for skin Essential Oils – Tea Tree, Lavender, Rosemary, and Orange are great for skin. Only about 60 drops per 100ml of soap needed. EOs are strong and you can hurt yourself if you use too much.
Facial Scrub:
2 tbsp grinded oatmeal (put it in a coffee grinder) or 2 tbsp brown sugar (make sure there are no additives) 2 tbsp aloe vera 1 tsp lemon juice If that is too rough, you can add some castile soap to it.
Dry Skin Facial Scrub:
1 tbsp brown sugar and enough drops of cold pressed olive oil (Trader Joe’s is good and cheap) to make a paste. Massage and then rinse. You can make this fresh each morning with a little bowl.
Acne Face Wash:
¼ tbsp oatmeal, 2 tsp baking soda, add distilled or purified water a teaspoon at a time until you get a paste. Apply and leave for 5 minutes and then rinse.
Shampoo:
1 part water 1 part liquid castile soap 1 tsp to 1 tbsp of Aloe Vera Gel depending on size 1 tsp to 1 tbsp Vitamin E Oil You can also add Essential Oils to this. Rosemary, Lemon, and Tea Tree are good for hair
Toothpaste:
6 tsp baking soda 1/3 tsp salt 4 tsp glycerin 15 drops peppermint essential oil Mix to paste and store for use
Mouthwash:
Boil 6 ounces of water and 2 ounces of vodka or grain alcohol Add 4 tsp glycerin 1 tsp aloe vera gel Once cooled, add 15 drops of spearmint or peppermint essential oil. Store in bottle that seals
Baby Wipes
Cut up an clean but old t-shirt into wipe size pieces – You can also cut a roll of paper towels down to size that will fit into the container and use them. They need to be strong like Bounty though. 2 cups sterile water 2 tbsp baby shampoo or liquid castile soap 1 tbsp baby oil Put the pieces and solution into an old baby wipes container and use

You can add zinc oxide which is 20 spf. Do not inhale the powder though. It can be dangerous, a rag or bandana over your nose and mouth when doing it would be wise.
You can also use olive oil in it which would add 4 spf. Shea Butter is also 4 spf Vitamin E oil is a protectant
It was 90 degrees over the weekend with blazing sun here and I just used coconut oil on my daughters and they barely even got tan much less burned.
