And I am just trying to say it is somewhat unfair to lump the Avetts in with the recent rush of Americana/Folk bands when their first album came out 11 years ago which is 7 years before the earliest for any of the other bands.

Lumping in general is folly. Look Old Crow Medicine Show has been around for 15 years and Trampled by Turtles has been around for 11 years too. This is not a new "thing". It is a thing that has recently really blown up - and of course others will get on the train - both from a performing and listening side. The fans are not largely in their 20s - they are largely spread across a humongous age range - which is generally the one thing that causes something to enter this type of musical zeitgeist. Old ladies like Avetts, young girls like Mumfords, boys and men and cats and dogs like the Lumineers and yeehah to those who get a thrill out of it and thank goodness there's so much other good music being made to those who don't.

Totally agree. Avett Brothers have been making boring music since Mumford was in diapers.
I think it has something to do with what a lot of us heard our parents playing when we were kids in the 70's and 80's. My parent's listened to everything but what I heard live was always acoustic and usually involved at least one banjo. I blame Woody and Arlo
That's really not a bad point. I don't know how well it did outside of East Tennessee, but it blew up pretty big here.
Mr. Mumford and Mr. Dwane are steeped in jazz; Mr. Marshall said he initially took up banjo simply because he was a session musician and there was too much competition for guitar gigs. The turning point in Mr. Mumford’s listening wasn’t exposure to Britain’s deep folk heritage, but to a Hollywood take on old-timey American music: the soundtrack to “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”
