Washington was absolutely in control of that game before he went down.
Say what? They were losing 21-14 when he was injured. The only time Washington was "in control" of that game was the first quarter, when the Seahawks were down 14-0. The Redskins has 129 yards of offense in the first quarter and 74 total the rest of the game. Seattle scored 24 unanswered.
Fair enough, I misspoke. Washington was absolutely in control of that game before the initial injury, which occurred early in the 2nd quarter when they were up 14-0. His game was noticeably affected at that point, and he should have been pulled (which has been discussed ad nauseum by pundits). We still would have lost at that point most likely, but at least the injury would have been considerably less severe.
The Dan Snyder era has been incredibly frustrating. One who doesn't follow the team closely wouldn't know it, but the Redskins have been on the verge of putting together a contending team several times during his ownership, only to then be completely derailed by his impulsive free agency acquisitions (previously made in conjunction with his bitchmade buddy, Vinny Cerrato). He is essentially an ignorant super fan with an endless supply of funds. I have wanted to violently attack him on several occasions.
However, I will give him some credit. I am knocking on wood as I say this, but he appears to understand some of the error of his previous ways. He has hired a real GM (Bruce Allen) and a real head coach, and has taken a back seat and let them run the show to this point. So far it has paid off, but if the Redskins start struggling again, I have little faith that he can control himself.
Haha. I have a friend that lives down there. All of his comments on facebook throughout the season are like he hatewatches the Phins. Such excitement at the beginning and such bitter disappointment by the end.
Oh yeah, that is the heavy sentiment around the city. Everyone watches them since it's second best sports team in town though so there is always bated breath when the season starts. I watch the games with my father-in-law and his father and they are long time Phins fans living down here their whole lives.
Their sentiments usually start with pessimistic hope then they win a game. Feelings of surprise. Then they lose a game which then leads into a raucous amount of why can't we ever get anybody good, questioning management, and plenty of hate watching. The fans will most likely give them a pass this season since the Marlins are shizzing the bed
Please note I wasn't even talking about a NY sports team I enjoy watching.
I will talk about any of your teams, players, whatever.
Juggs, I've already purchased my ticket for the Seattle hype train, hope you don't mind company. That team is hella fun to watch and I love their defense.
Once again my Panthers get one of if not the toughest schedule in the league. Looks like another 6-10 or 7-9 standard Carolina season. How do we always end up with a crappy schedule?
In terms of Randle, he was being blocked by Hixon because Coughlin hates to play rookies. He's notorious for that. Watching the guy play, he was awesome any time he was on the field. He just didn't get enough reps b/c Coughlin is an old fart.
You're going to blame the 2-time SB winning coach and not the WR who couldn't beat out a journeyman-level veteran? Hill got replaced by Chaz Schilens, Randle couldn't beat out Hixon and took a while to take reps from him. Neither of those situations are on anyone except the receivers themselves. But, as I already stated, they're young and can still improve. Acting like it's a given isn't logical, though. WR's show promise and fizzle out every year.
You both have good points in this running argument but:
What Jimmyroo says above is a cold fact. Coughlin would have sat Jim Brown his rookie year.
I will sh!t my pants if Myers has a better season this year than Bennett had last year. We certainly downgraded.
Randle will have a better year than Hixon had last year.
"Welp, we've got an awful team. Guess we'll just skip the draft this year. What's the point?"
isn't the point to get better? he doesn't make them better. this draft is so lacking in great skill position players, that's why all these teams are going lineman and defense. they should have as well. but I guess my main point was they didn't need to jump way up to get him. I don't really care what the rams do though so 'shrug'
