If I wasn't here in FL chances are I would have been out in the vicinity. I have gone out and right in that area most of the last few years. Luckily my friends weren't in that area at the time and are all accounted for. This is so quacked...

We're both just utterly sick. I keep seeing our old jobs, old apartments, friends' houses, beloved places, familiar streets all over the news and full of scared, hurt people. Its a nightmare, just a nightmare.
I was born in Mass., about 40 miles west of Boston. I live an hour from Boston, just across (the wrong side of) the Mass. state line. I am there about a couple dozen times a year. I love the place. Sh*t like this happening today, it hit a bit too close to home. I was at work today, but had been in that area the last five years. My usual marathon watching spot is about a block and a half away up Boylston St. - far enough away to be safe, but close enough to be in the chaos zone.
Today was supposed to be a great day in Boston, one of fun and celebration. And well, that changed really quickly now didn't it?
We are so far away from home right now.... Our hearts ache in so many ways. This .. this wreaks of a domestic T. so so sad. Our hearts to the families, bostonians.
Yeah this hits close to home. Regardless of who did it for whatever convoluted reason there is no justification for the harming of innocent people. I hope they find the source of this terrorist attack and kick the sh*t out of them. Domestic or foreign.
Thanks yall! I commented on the Shout Out earlier. The explosions happened on both sides of my office. However, I decided to work from home today to avoid marathon traffic. Life is so weird.........
Happy for your decision. Sad to see the all the pain
I live on the opposite side of the state, but the shock and despair from all this is very big my life and the lives of those I know and love. Today is Patriot's day here in Massachusetts, it's a holiday meant to honor those who fought to create this country, to honor our greatness and history as a Commonwealth.

Wow. I don't know you but I'm glad you're OK. I guess you're planning on working from home for the foreseeable future?
Yeah, this one really hit close. My wife and I called Boston home for eight years. Some good friends of ours were watching a family member cross the finish line from in front of Marathon Sports--with their kids--not fifteen minutes before the first bomb went off. Fortunately they'd moved on to get out of the crowd, but were still only a couple of blocks away during the explosions. They're really shaken up.
I ran the Boston Marathon in 2000 (in 4:05, which would've put me right at the finish line if I'd run today) and worked as a volunteer medic for the Red Cross on Heartbreak Hill for five or six years. I think the fact that this happened right by the big temporary medical setup at Copley Square might've made the difference between life and death for some of the victims. The BAA/BP/BEMS/Red Cross and all the other agencies that work this event are super well-organized and it looks like they deserve enormous commendation for the quality of their response.

I truly feel with the people of Boston, and the world, let's not forget that the Boston marathon is a international event.
I hope that whatever justice may be found, is found swiftly.
For those of us visiting Bonnaroo this year, I went to some major public events in the months after September the eleventh, be prepared for significant security check increases, as well as more security. Be prepared for more thoroughbpat downs and bag screening. Be prepared to have your vehicle thoroughly checked, and for very long lines.
I'm not saying that will happen with security, but it happened in 2001 at every event I attended, far more security and checks then in the years past. Be ready for it.
It completely baffles me that a few of my "friends" on FB are making rude and mean comments/status about this. I will not have any involvement with someone who has that mindset.
I was volunteering with Dana Farber's charity team and was on my way into that area when it happened. They shut the entirety of the Green line down, which was smart, but also forced everyone to walk, which could have been dangerous if there had been any sort of follow up. I've never seen such strange combinations of panic and sadness in people on the street. It was like being on a different planet for a few hours.
Fortunately, no one I know has been hurt, as far as I am aware.
I am so sick of things like this happening. What kind of person do you have to be to do this? I hope that they find this person(s) soon before they do this kind of thing again.

So you were a charity runner, or were you supporting the Dana Farber team? Either way, awesome. If you were running, were you one of the ones who got blocked by police prior to Hereford? I understand there was a lot of confusion among the runners who hadn't yet made that turn.
Just the Green Line got shut down? Weird...the Orange Line is right there too.
I heard that the entire 26.2 mile course is still shut down. Is that true?

I ran in 2010, and injuries have kept me from running with them again since, but I volunteer each year to do my part. When I was getting on the Green line, I actually had already decided to run again next year, since I have been fairly healthy lately. Then everything went to hell. When my train was in Beaconsfield or so, we heard the news from two girls behind us. They shut the train down at Fenway, and shortly after that they closed down the B and C branches. I think parts of E and D may have remained open, but I'm not sure. The orange line was unaffected other than Park Street and any other stations that coincided with Green. Blue was untouched. Red was shut down for the underground portion.
The most surreal sight, I think, was seeing the entirety of the police contingent that was out on the course come roaring back into Kenmore Square all at once. It honestly felt like I was in the movie Cloverfield for a while.
And no, to my understanding, the entire course is not shut down. Very little of it was, even yesterday. Only the last 1.2 miles or so were ever under any serious scrutiny, I believe.
just read an article that stated "The westboro baptist church threatens to picket the funerals of those killed in the bombings." These people are downright wrong and I put them in the same category as the bombers. Terrible the World we live in

They shut down parts of the Pike, Storrow Drive, Mass Ave Bridge. Cleared out Kenmore, Coolidge Corner, and initially, the course. Just for initial safety and re-routing purposes.
A few blocks in back bay and storrow drive are still blocked off. The Copley St. t station is closed.

Trust me, there is a special place in hell for these folks.

Apparently, they just post these all the time and hardly ever show up. They do it because it gets them the headlines and attention they so desperately crave. In the mean time, look at this new house across the street from their church.
Man, I know the WBC people are nutjobs and we ought to ignore them, but if they seriously come to Boston and picket an 8 year old boy's funeral, they might not make it out alive.

True dat. Hell, I got nervous enough just driving an ambulance through certain parts of Dorchester, and I was one of the good guys...can you imagine the beat-down in store for anyone showing up at Martin Richard's funeral with a "GOD HATES CHILDREN" sign, or whatever? And I'm sure Boston's Finest would be in a reeeeeeeeeeeeeal hurry to show up and put a stop to it.
Which...come to think of it...we should INVITE those frackers to the funeral. In fact, REQUIRE it. Write them letters: "Come to Dorchester, O Ye Righteous, for it is a den of iniquitousness."
