monster what album do you feel is the last time that happened? I'm thinking Thriller.
Purple Rain? Nevermind?
Granted I wasn't alive when Purple Rain came out and Nevermind was the year I was born, so my perception may be a bit skewed, but those albums have always seemed pretty unanimously loved regardless of who's talking about them

There were plenty of people who hated both Nevermind and Purple Rain when they came out - these were mostly fueled to success by young folk. Druid's Thriller is the best example I can think of, at least as long as I've been alive.
Over the past, say, ten years, I guess maybe Adele's 21 is the best I can think of (?) I mean, obviously there are people who don't like the album, but it got airplay on pop, alternative, R&B stations. Songs from the album made a ton of different types of sales lists and both young and old, black and white, etc. seemed to like it.

The release of Outkast's Speakerbox/Love Below was a huge event and it spawned one of the greatest and ubiquitous pop singles, Hey Ya, that I have ever seen. To clarfiy my hopes for Reflektor, I'm not thinking Nevermind big, where it defines a shift in culture, but OK Computer big.
I loved both Oracular Spectacular and Congratulations, and I think they delivered for me again. I know a lot of people did not appreciate Congratulations, but I thought it was beautiful. I know it's early, but this one has a chance to really leave it's mark for me.
To anyone familiar with Okkervil River, where does this album stand against their previous? I'm going to eventually look more into these guys, Would anyone say this is their best work?

It's good, but definitely not the best. Check out The Stage Names, Black Sheep Boy, and I Am Very Far. Those are my 3 favorites. I think this one is just behind those, but maybe I'll change my mind upon further listening.
What is wankery if not self-indulgent? I guess I didn't pick up on the self-indulgence, but I respect your opinion.
My favorite tracks are Cool Song No. 2, A Good Sadness, and I Love You Too, Death, as well as already loving Alien Days. Honorable mention: Mystery Disease.
I really like what are doing. It's nothing earth shattering, but they are least improving on the Congratulations style. Congratulations was too disjointed to be called a good album.
Edit: I'm not saying Congratulations is a bad album. In fact, it made me respect the band more. It's just a little in way that seems like MGMT were still figuring some things out.
I can't believe I even gave it a chance after their last two albums, but I am enjoying the new KOL album. They went back to their roots of their first 3 albums, which I truly like, and did it well.
2 of those links send me to the same song and the other one doesn't play any song.
I'll just start quoting Big Fase if you don't stop it.
His production is tight (as always), he has a couple of okay-to-good songs on there, but he is no way, shape or form impressive when it comes to actual rapping.

YouTube video were altered. Sound was distorted and slowed down. It was the only thing I could find.
His lyrical ability in this album is far more impressive than Jays on MCHG
