Yea, I'm really happy about that. I'd hate to leave Macca early but I am way more comfortable heading to this show in the middle of (or maybe before) Mumford and Sons.
See I'm not invested in Bjork at all so that works well for me. Agreed on Mumford. I've never seen them, but I'll never get to see this superjam if I miss it. I'll be flying the Superjam solo, but hey if a bunch of people I met on an internet message board are there I'm ok.

Oh, trust me. That one show is enough for me to do whatever it takes to be there. It's a long-shot at this point, but we'll see. You may just have a pops show up on your door step to join you all in tent only.
I saw an interview on youtube from Dr. John in which he says that he's on bad terms with Bonnaroo because they never paid him for the name. I thought that was strange since he was so involved in 2011. I'll try to find the interview.
I just noticed it's now billed as the "Rock n' Soul Dance Party Superjam". It doesn't look as if the lineup itself has changed for the superjam, but I thought it was an interesting name switch. The words "Dance Party" I think further validate our suspicions that this will be a late night jam

John Oates said it would be late night so unless he was lied to (or he's lying) I think it's a lock for late night. Maybe the name change happened because they want to do a little more than just Soul music. Possibly some Rock tunes as well. Good find.

Cool, I didn't know John Oates confirmed it, but that's awesome (I read the previous posts but not close enough apparently). You make a good point, by changing the name to "Rock n Soul", it shows the jam will likely feature a blend of soul and rock and possibly appeal to a wider audience

If anything, the name change makes me even more intrigued. At first with the soul set up I thought we might not get to see Jim wailing too much. I thought he may lean more towards just being a vocal presence. Now I think we could see some pretty awesome back and forth playing between him and Oates. Very excited.
in this review of a Jim James solo show (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/blogs/alternate-take/jim-james-energizes-his-songs-of-praise-in-new-york-20130221) David Fricke mentions he covered "a couple of antique R&B valentines – Fats Waller's "It's a Sin to Tell a Lie" and the 1944 Ink Spots-Ella Fitzgerald hit "I'm Making Believe" " So those may be possibilities, as I doubt his solo 'roo set will run as long as this show. But who knows.

I couldn't find it either. They were interviewing Dr. John about his new album, and they brought up the Bonnaroo Superjam. They asked about the special connection between Dr. John and Bonnaroo. Dr. John said that they weren't on good terms anymore since neither he nor Jessie Hill (who co-wrote "Desitively Bonnaroo") received any money from AC/Superfly for use of the name. I thought it was particularly odd seeing as how "Bonnaroo" isn't exactly a phrase he created and Jessie Hill had been dead for six years when the first Bonnaroo happened. Anyways, back to the "Rock n' Soul Dance Party Superjam" discussion. What I want to know is, who's playing bass?
I'm wondering who will be holding down the bottom-end too! Ben Jaffe of the PHJB will probably be funkin' most of the time, I imagine, but I'd love to be surprised with a designated bassist. I know Jim loves playing bass, so it wouldn't surprise me to see him as bassist for a few songs.
As for a wishlist, I'd love to see Nick Movshon return to the SuperJam. Last played in 2011, and SHOULD be back on the farm with Lee Fields. But that's just wishful thinking from my inner funk fanboy.

I feel like with Jim James, John Oats and Pres. JHB that they probably wont have to rely on as big of a surprise guest as last year with D'Angelo. Does most everyone expect the guests to come from the lineup itself?
I think we'll see sit-ins but nothing huge like D'Angelo coming back for his first show in 12 years.
I've tried to look up guests for the past superjams but I think the info I seek is by nature hard to find other than by first hand accounts.
Was the D'Angelo thing (I was present for this one, but I have to admit, I've kinda skipped the superjams up until this one) a one-off incident where an artist played a guest spot who wasn't on the official lineup? I remember Jimmy Buffet doing a surprise set but that wasn't related to the superjam to the best of my knowledge. I know there is a small pool to gather this info from but I just so happened to skip the Bonnaroo's that contained (to my personal tastes) the most epic superjams of all (Trey-Gordo-Benevento-Russo/JPJ-?L/Les-Gogol-Hammet).
I'm curious if this could develop into a trend: Like, 'make sure you make it to the superjam because you won't know who could be there!'.
