Dave, what do I have to do to join your elitist metal/heavy music club, motherf*cker? I will probably be there depending on conflicts. Saw them at Hopscotch in 2011 and it ruled so hard.
I listened to Swans today on Spotify. I dont get it. I tried listening to several different songs, and I couldn't stand it. To each their own, but I won't be adding to the crowd in that tent.
Yeah man its not for everyone. They are kind of part of an early 80s movement called No Wave. Other bands in the movement include James Chance & the Contortions, Mars, and DNA. They are the precursors to a lot of Noise genre type acts, and the early industrial scene. Really weird stuff.
i checked out one song at random by Swan, cant remember the name of it, but it was like 30 mins long, and reminded me a bit of Mogwai, not a bad thing, but need to be in a certain mood to try it out again,
If this happens (which it looks like it will) Swans will be the most polarizing band on the lineup, I think. One of the most challenging bands of the past 30 years.
I'd never listened to them prior to The Seer. I think I downloaded it after reading something on COS about their live show and I'm thankful I did. It's been my writing music for the past few weeks now. This is absolutely not the kind of stuff I normally listen to but it really puts me in an intense mood that I enjoy. I've also been reading some of Gira's short stories. I mentioned that in the email which perhaps helped in getting a reply. Pending the conflicts, I'll be there.

...and one of the loudest.
Death Grips would give them a run for their money in my mind. Neither is going to win anyone over, but I'm pretty middle of the road when it comes to Swans but I don't know many people who feel that way about Death Grips.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
(1) Damon Albarn (2) Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds (3) King Khan & His Shrines (4) Ty Segall (5) Ms Lauryn Hill (6) Darkside (7) Kanye (8) Janelle Monae (9) Goat (10) Meshuggah.

Moogfest kinda showed me how Death Grips were gonna be. They played a slot opposite of one of the headliners and was still filled to the gill capacity. This was at a 1000 person venue. I've seen Swans play at smaller venue with half the people.
You're totally right though, it will be a close race.
Deer tick just posted about new songs and I asked about Roo and they replied right away: "I hope, Adam. We haven't heard anything yet so it's unlikely."

Here's one the old fashioned way. I went to a 250 person benefit show in Providence last night. John McCauley headlined the night. I spoke with him early on in the evening and asked about Bonnaroo and he said that he was playing! However, I didn't get chance to ask which band he'd be playing with- sorry.
Maybe the facebook post he was trying to be vague since it's a public thing where all his fans see.....but he didn't mind telling Adam at the show.
Or maybe it won't be Deer Tick (he was commenting on the Deer Tick page) but a different McCauley act.
Maybe. In the same comments someone asked him about SXSW and he said not Deer Tick but I'm doing a solo set. Obviously SXSW is a different monster and they dont reveal stuff the same way as other festivals.

I love that the post from Deer Tick hints that the new album will be more like War Elephant. I was starting to think I'd never hear another deep McCauley song.
I told you guys over a month ago that Converge, The Sword, BTBAM, and Red Fang was highly unlikely due to Hellfest being the weekend after Roo.
And you goobs know gotdamn well that I will be at that Swans tent if I make it to Roo this year.
BTBAM is at a festival in Europe Roo weekend, so they are 100% out. I just had hope since I felt like this was going to be the year for Converge if there ever was going to be one.

Yeah you're right. It also says "any ballad on Black Dirt Sessions' indestructible psychedelic uncle". LOL. Either way, it's going to be something I'm looking forward to. I've just been awake too many hours now. I'm going to take a nap. I hope I comeback to more confirmations and a Coachella lineup
