If it's not to late where you are, move your car to somewhere with no trees. The gusts of wind here are beginning to be accompanied by car alarms from falling branches.
A car parked outside my place missed a tree falling on it by about a foot. My office closed for tomorrow already, and they never do that.
My girlfriend moved her car down the street yesterday and now there's a tree branch in her regular spot.
Philly reporting in. Wind is getting a little crazy. Had to duck tape my one window cause it's old and has a crack in the one pane. Here's to the power staying on
Wouldn't hurt to fill up your bathtub with water, either.
Municipal water and sewer here as well as a gas stove so we will not lose those amenities. People with wells and electric stoves will be pretty well f*cked. Hold tight and hang on folks.

The power at pump stations has been known to go down. Filling up your bathtub for water to flush your toilet is solid advice.

Western PA update. Starting to get nasty. Still raining a lot, my yard is thoroughly flooded now. Wind is pickin' up a lot too, hoping not to loose power any time soon.
Side note: Currently jammin' out to this Hurricane mix the official Bonnaroo Twitter put out. Tweeted at 'em and got them to add Neil's Like A Hurricane. Feel kinda accomplished. Done bragging.
Hope everyone else is staying safe though. Seriously.

Well, two things: 1) if the flooding gets bad, municipal water might get contaminated with sewage, and 2) those pumps at the water plant are electric. True, they have backup generators, but Bloomberg has already been on TWC tonight talking about cutting service to certain areas.

Good thinking. We've never lost water service before but it can't hurt. Temps here in RI are supposed to stay warm so we won't have to worry about freezing our azzes off.

Glad to hear that everyone posting is doing ok! I think the worst of it is over in the coastal areas, except for the flooding of course. The winds over east should be calming down, right?

Yeah, I think the worst is done. Was just watching the Weather Channel and they said the eye of the storm made land in Jersey, so I guess that means they're through the shit now. I'm a little while inland and we're still expecting the worst yet. Just waiting for some crazy winds.
One tip I learned from my Business Continuity Planning days: You can use the water from your hot water tank - if worried about contamination turn off the intake. Gallons of water!
Here it's still scary windy with crazy gusts and lots of rain. Expected to ease up after midnight I think.
The power is still on for now. We have polished off a bottle of Champagne and just made the first Blood Orange Jalapeño Margarita of the evening. It could be much, much worse.
(And it is for many people, I do not mean to sound heartless, you know I'm not. Just making the best of my circumstances. I will certainly do what I am able to help others once this has passed.)

I'm supposed to take the ferry across Lake Michigan this week and there could be 18 foot high waves on the Western lake shore near Milwaukee. So yeah that's probably not happening.
I realize this is like 1/10,000th as bad as what people on the East Coast are going to experience; just pointing out the ridiculousness that it's reaching so far inland.
sending love and good vibes from afar...stay safe, guys. Thinking of my stranded panda friends as well. I wish that I could send you all some electricity, warm soup, a hug and yes, some xanax.

This reminds me of living on the Gulf. And I now live in Pittsburgh. We're getting pommeled right now- expecting winds to top 60 mph overnight and lots of flooding from the rivers and streams.
And what whoreshack said: 2 feet of snow in some parts of WV! What a monster this thing is.
How's everyone doing? Some loss of power, and hard winds so far which is booooo. No flooding yet I hope, for all you Roosters. Still sending love and safety vibes y'all's way.

We are doing ok here. Major props to our electric provider for getting us back up online in the middle of this. (this has not happened before!) Took many tries...did not expect to be back up for days froom prior experience. Just happy for night time lighting. Took Levon out for a very short walk mindful of all power lines. Quite the mess out there. Stay safe all!!
I have had flickering of lights, but still have power. I have heard sirens go off all throughout the night, so it sounds like it has been rough out there. No flooding in my area just because I am inland.
Haven't had tv or Internet since yesterday, power has gone out a few times, but I live on a huge hill so no flooding. Winds destroyed my neighborhood, though.
The bar I go to down the street has a generator and have been open all night/morning. They were serving breakfast to people this morning, complete with a pint. My street currently has power but none of the surrounding streets do.
The Wire DVD box set has been the MVP of the hurricane at my apartment.
