Yep, I almost always go with PBR if I'm drinking cheap. 99% of the time.
And if I'm not drinking cheap, I usually go for a really nice, really hoppy IPA.
We should hang out. Right now in my fridge I've got PBR, Sierra Nevada Torpedo, Samuel Smith IPA, and Dogfish Head 90 minute.
Yeah, I've got three of the four in my own fridge, believe it or not. Only one I don't have is the Samuel Smith IPA. Also have a sixer of Bells Two-Hearted Ale. The Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA is one of my very favorites.
And totally agreed on Miller High Life as well. That's the only beer I'll ever drink from the major domestic breweries, and only if it's cold.

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Now I have the urge to go on a serious wine collecting mission after work. I have hoarder tendencies when it comes to certain things, and booze is one of them. If left alone in a liquor store, I will invariably come out with SOMETHING. And it's not like I drink it all, I have many bottles of fine bourbon or gin which I only dip into occasionally. I just like having it.
To use your phrase, it's all about context.
Hoarding booze and vinyl albums = good
Hoarding garbage and body parts = bad.
I would be an alcohol hoarder if I didn't live with 2 other guys who see any alcohol in the fridge as fair game, even special bottles of liquor like my Johnny Walker Blue Label I got as a gift from a client.

Bourbon of varying quality has been my drink of choice my whole life. Starting to get real annoyed with all the douchebagg "DURR HAVE YOU HAD PAPPY VAN WINKLE" chest beating. Not looking forward to a year or two from now when bourbon is like vodka was last decade and you can't even get a bottle of bulleit for under $35.

Life, Death, Taxes and Whiskey. 4 things that'll never change.

Yeah Bulleit is great value, that's generally my baseline as well. I throw a big party for the Kentucky Derby every year, which is mostly just an excuse to have my friends assist me in stocking the bar with bourbon. It's a quality move I recommend to everyone.
Is it just me or does it seem like rye prices have exploded in the last couple months?
The prices are way up and the (good) selection is way down. 17 year Eagle Rare was my favorite. You could get it whenever you wanted around here about 3 years ago. Now, it almost never appears. I asked my liquor guy, and he said that good bourbon in general is being bought up within 1-2 months of release at this point.
I ordered a case from the next release, but still, I miss the easy days of just going to the liquor store to get what you like.

Haha, I do the same thing. My parents do it for the bar in their basement every year, they call it "Flanfest" and price of admission is a bottle of liquor. No one is allowed to bring beer since my parents supply a keg or two. Their bar after that party last year was more stocked than my local pub.

Do you go to Harvest at all? It's the best for beer, though the wine they have is all carefully chosen and delicious. And the guy who runs it, Ian, is the best.

I do know Ian. I met him at Plan B way back before Harvest even opened. I don't really go there anymore, though. I tend to make most of my stops at the Wise Old Dog. Think Harvest (similar dedication to the craft) but a little more preppy/upscale instead of the hippie-ish vibe of Harvest.
I don't even live in WH anymore so I don't shop there as often, but when I'm in town or passing through I've been known to make purchases.
Wait... I remember you saying that you moved, but I don't think you ever mentioned that it was a move out of town! How sad. I've been to Wise Old Dog, but it isn't too convenient for me to frequent when Harvest (and West Side and the new place on Park...) is/are right there.

I'm actually contemplating a move back to either West Hartford, the West End of Hartford, or maybe even downtown Hartford. My place is awesome, but the commute sucks. Even though a nice place in downtown would cost me almost double of what I'm paying now, I would walk to work (I have to fill up my tank at least once every 5 days at this point, so we're talking 300 bucks a month or so), and a lot of these places in new buildings have heat/hot water/tv/internet built in. I might save in the long run.
I love West Side Wines. Extremely helpful people. Only problem is that they tend to only stock things that are pricey, and aren't great about steering you towards value buys. Based on what you've said, I'm assuming you live in the Farmington Ave area?
Do iiiiit! Move back! A few blocks from Farmington... I live right off of exit 43 basically by the little league field.
Yeah, I like West Side too. They give Blue Back Square employees a discount. So that helps the price factor and they do have the $12 and under wall. You're right though. If you ask for help, they have a tendency to steer you high...

I'd consider the West End, but not downtown. I'm a small town girl and I already consider where I am a tad too urban for my tastes. So to go even more urban... loud.. busy... ehhh. I like my location for where I am in my life. For example, this afternoon, I can leave work at 4:30, go home, park my car and walk to Cuvee by 4:55. Doors open at 5:00. I can throw back a few vodka on the rocks for cheap and then stumble home without worries of a DUI. Solid plan to me!
