Saw him last night and it's ridiculous how good he is live. I'm usually not super into the baroque pop Belle and Sebastian sound, but I really liked the new material and I think he'd play a fantastic afternoon set.
He played the Buskirk Chumley. It was so legit. He has a five piece band (standard drums, bass, him plus violin & piano), and he uses a sampler from some of the other stuff (extra strings, horns, etc.) I was blown away by how huge his sound was. A perfect mix of old and new stuff. He was hilarious as always.
It's obvious he's been working on the songs for a long, long time. Everything was tight without feeling forced. It was the best show I've been to since Roo. It was perfect.
Are you from Bloom man? If you're ever around I'd love to kick it.

I'm out of the Beehive now, but I went to law school at IU. Bloomington's the fuggin best. Some of my closest friends from IU were on the board with me at WIUX.
Anyway, when Jens tore through Bloomington on the "Night Falls..." tour, a bunch of us ended up hanging out with him till 4 a.m. while he played songs and showed us youtube clips of "Maria the Magic Weaver" on someone's fancy new iPhone. And we all took pulls of straight gin from a bottle my friend had stolen from the bar he played. Memories.

Great setlist up there. Wish he came somewhere close to me on his tour. I won't be going to bonnaroo next year, so I wouldn't be surprised if he got added. Been hoping to see his name since 08.
