Living in Australia is like playing this game on extreme mode. And it's not always the creepy critters you might expect, either. For instance, these cute guys are called Redbacks, and they will quack your shit up somethin' fierce.
On the other hand, this furry little fella is called a hunstman. It is a non-venomous house spider, and actually good to have around as it will nom up all the other nasty critters in your house.
However, the huntsman is not to be confused with the funnel web spider, which will tear your world asunder.
This last guy is called a trapdoor spider, and even I'm not sadistic enough to post this gif without a spoiler tag:
As for snakes, I had an extremely close encounter with a brown snake out in the countryside when I was seven. For those who don't know, this is the second deadliest snake in the world. Had a family friend's brother not been there with a shovel handy, it's entirely possible I would not be here to tell you this tale today.
I also had another freaky snake encounter around age 4. I went into the basement at my uncle's house, who's a vet specializing in reptiles, and a king cobra spread its hood and hissed at me from across the room. I didn't even know that my tiny 4-year old legs could carry me that fast, but lo and behold. And yet, somehow I'm far more apprehensive about spiders. After that gif above, can you really blame me?
Geez, way to make the rest of feel like jerks. "After I donate my kidney to a friend in need, I'll still make the effort to go Bonnaroo and see all my friends even though I'm not crazy about the lineup this year."
