Anyone a fan of this absolutely bonkers group? At first I thought they were annoying....and then I found myself unable to stop listening to them. Was hoping to catch them in Atlanta on October 20th, but alas, they sold out the day before I got paid in a stroke of bad luck. If anyone knows of an extra ticket or two please let me know, as I'm not a big enough fan to fork over twice the face value on stubhub. But anyway...enjoy this bizarre tune.
I'll be seeing them in Ft Lauderdale My first impression was "who the f are these clowns" but once I learned not to take them serious (because I'm pretty sure they're being satirical.. or I hope they are) I got really into them Show should be bonkers

Here's my favorite.
You can read about Leon Botha, the guy who looks way scarier than the other scary guy at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leon_Botha. He was an artist and DJ and one of the oldest survivors of the disease progeria.

They are so badass live. I saw their first USA show at Voodoo '10. One of the few highlites of the fest that year. Seein' em again at Voodoo this year. Kind of a bummer because they are playing the same time as Gary Clark Jr.

Gonna have to go halfsies.
yeah I was at that voodoo set as well, what a great set. I have an admiration for any band that is fiercely original and approaches their work with such fortitude and intensity. I'm sad ill be missing their set at voodoo this year, since I can't leave Mobile until 5pm.
to be honest I think Die Antwoord is way bigger and more popular than I had realized. I thought they could possibly sell out day of show but I didn't expect such an early sell out

so i saw them this wknd at ACL and several people i was with (and others around us which was the weird part) were talking about how they felt it was a little neo nazi-ish at their show. at one point the guy told everyone "raise your wrist bands in the air" and everyone did a little fist raising salute thing, it was strange. wondering if since they are from south africa their songs have some race stuff in them?? i know they use like three languages so who the heck knows what they are saying half the time. i could make out "my weenie is expensive" and "fleshy banana in your mother" but that was about it.
they had high energy and were fun to dance to though. the girl is so freaky, her voice reminds me of princess peach.

As best I can tell, they're trying to give a voice to the lower class white Afrikaaners. And they're definitely trying to be controversial (not unheard of in rap). But I never got the sense they were hatemongering. I could be wrong, but that's the sense I get.
Edit: I should add that I was introduced to them by my youngest daughter who is as lefty as they come (which makes her parents quite proud).

Not that they don't have any violent lyrics, but it's tame compared to alot of other rap on the market, and there's nothing I've heard in their lyrics that sounded racist. In fact the semi-ridiculous $O$ intro is:
"Check it, I represent South African culture. In this place you get a lot of different things: Blacks, Whites, Coloured, English, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Zulu, watookal.
I'm like all these different things, all these different people, f_cked into one person."

Just won tickets to Die Antwoord for this Tuesday night. I wasn't planning on going to this, but listening to them again, this should be killer. Seeing Passion Pat the day before and Shpongle two days after will make for a great music week. I have no idea how many people DA will attract though.

Well damn, they actually sold out the show tonight. Pretty impressive, not a ton of bands sell out at this venue. Anyways, DA was surprisingly great. They only played for an hour, but they were on fire the whole time. They had a neon DJ booth, and a video screen. The energy was crazy at the show, and there were a couple times where it looked like Ninja was just stopping to take in the crowd. Definitely see them if you can, although they really are selling out a lot of the shows. Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale sold out, and I hear their Orlando show tomorrow is on track to sell out too. Don't know much about in other parts of the country.
Also, they didn't come across as neo-nazis at all. They said "raise your fists up" one time and that was it.

Same at the show I went to. You can just tell he's been dreaming of this his entire life, he looks so grateful for the success he's achieved. It's nice to see
