never thought i would say this... emoney is right. notre dame is not the best team in the country and uga is nowhere near the 3rd best team in the country. there needs to be committee like basketball and there needs to be a 16 team playoff. decide that shiz on the field.

Clemson would get smoked by Notre Dame.
Everyone see what happened to Oregon when they played a big, fast and physical front seven? That's what an NFL-style defense does. Notice I didn't say NFL-level, because it's not, but they play a similar style and provide similar mismatches to those that NFL defenses pose. Half of college defense is for show, they're traffic cones until the scoring unit comes back on the field. Notre Dame is built around its defense, a novel concept in the Jr. ranks of football, but one that they've ridden to an 11-0 record.
Put Clemson out there. Put Alabama. Put Oregon, Georgia, Kansas State, it doesn't matter. The ND defense dictates the game. 99% of college football is dictated by the offense, but the Notre Dame defense dictates how the game is played.
If you put them on a neutral field with any other NCAA team they can beat them. Will they? That's not for us to say, but they could. Anyone trying to say they're "not the best team" is right, because there is no best team. Every team is flawed, but only ND is undefeated (except OSU who doesn't count). Until that changes, they're the best in the country.

Suck it Sang.
well we will never know because of this flawed system. i believe notre dame is a good team but they are not a clear number one by any means. i think any team in the top 12 could beat them on any given day. lately there has been one or two clearly dominant teams and this year there isn't one. but the thing that is even more out of whack than that is uga having a chance to play for the championship if they beat bama. they are not that good.
good enough to play for national championship? no. could they beat uga? yes. i'm just saying uga hasn't had a season deserving of a national championship. and you know this from watching them every game.

If Oregon wins out, I would put them in. But this all seems like a moot point, I don't see Georgia sticking within 2 TDs. No Matt Barkley seems like the nail in the coffin for USC's chances, though for a team that could barely beat Pitt, Purdue, and BYU you never know...

oregon definitely would deserve it more than uga. i don't know what makes you think one player could stop our offense. fsu's defense is way better than uga and we scored 37 on them. they have 2 or 3 guys as good as jarvis jones.

The thing about FSU's defense is they've only played 1 team all season that was in the top 50 in offense. That one game was Clemson and they gave up 37, so it's really hard to gauge such a defense. Not that it should be a worry against Florida as long as they can stop the run.

I went into a long ramble last night about what today is in college football, i.e. the rivalries and the impact on bowls/conference champs/national champs. At the end when she looked like she was at the very end of her ability to listen to it, I said "Basically, this is my oblique way of saying not to expect me to get off the couch much tomorrow."
