<< It is kinda cool, Karen -- these two weeks. And I'm with ya, in terms of the swimming. My favorite discipline in the Games. I respect the track athletes, but I can't personally relate to it as easily.
It's sappy and maudlin and super-cliched for me to say, but I love watching these young people follow their dreams out to fruition. Even if they just finish the race, without actually winning it.
It's one of those "hope in a hopeless world" things, I guess.
I'm always a bit sad when the swimming portion is over. I just don't connect with track at all. At least we have diving and synchronized swimming to look forward to.
And did any of you see any of the trampoline? Holy shiz that stuff was insane! And who could overlook the fact that the trampoline Gold medalist's name was "Dong Dong"....lol

Brandi Chastain: Worst analyst in the history of anything.
I'm not a big soccer guy but that was entertaining as hell. Turned it on seconds before Wambach's goal to tie it and watched pretty intensely the rest of the way. I can't imagine how dead you have to be after 123 minutes of soccer.
I haven't been watching/paying attention to the olympics at all.
Believe it or not, the country with the most people is battling the country with the most advanced athletic facilities for supremacy while the rest of the world fills in the other lanes for events.
I was just thinking the same thing. I was watching the girl and was thinking "my 9 year old daughter can do better than that."
It's great. My dreams of being an olympian aren't dead yet. Now I have a reason to hit up every festival for the next four years. I'm training for Rio!
- I do not understand this whole "durrr drool women's beach vollyball" thing. Yeah, they're in bikinis, but May-Tranor and Walsh-Jennings aren't exactly a pair of Victoria's Secret models. They're extremely ripped athletes. If you slip into the idiotic "male" behavior of drooling over that then you've got extemely weird sexual proclivities.
I've hardly watched any of the women's beach volleyball this Olympics, and definitely haven't "durr drooled" over the athletes when I did; but just to clarify, you think it's "extremely weird" to be attracted to otherworldly athletic women?

Yes. I think it's absolutely bizarre that a large reaction to women's beach volleyball is "BIKINIS!!!!
Ah, OK I get this. I thought you were blanket statementing that you think it's ridiculous that athletes can be considered attractive.
I am definitely attracted to athletic women, or maybe attractive women that are insanely athletic...

Beach volleyball... Serve... dig, set, spike, repeat. I never realized how boring a game it was until this year. That being said, it was extremely moving watching May/Walsh go out with a gold medal. The highlights of that matched pushed my Olympic viewing time over the two hour mark for these games.
As noted, NBC's coverage is horrible, but I have caught events on NBC Sports network.

To pile on to the NBC terrible coverage thing--I noticed that the other night they showed the May/Walsh vs. China Semifinal match in its entirety, then followed it up with "Oh and the other American women (don't know their names) beat #1 Brazil in the other Semifinal and will face May/Walsh for Gold." What?! They're American AND beat the number 1 ranked team in the World and they don't show one minute of the match.
But it's not like this is the first thing NBC has sucked at. And yeah, Bob Costas needs to retire yesterday.
i personally prefer bbc news sites. i guess they may be a little biased towards the UK, but they always give good base coverage and not a lot of fluff.

I have been an equal opportunity ogler this Olympics! Men, women, the horses in the equestrian events are all fair game. I'm a horse lover, my parents train racehorses, and a friend of ours is on the Canadian Equestrian team, so ogling horses is in my blood, and there are some gorgeous horses competing.
I like the fact that these women are NOT Victoria Secret models and they get called sexy, pretty, what-have-you. Most of the female athletes to me are just natural beauties, interesting, REAL, and actually, it makes me happy that these women are being recognized as HOT- and alot of these women are in the 30's! not twentysomethings or younger I'm in my 30's- all I have to do is get fit and I could at least feel sexy again! Really, the women in the Olympics gave me hope, inspired me to wanna get fit again. I can do it! Just need to put these damn cigarettes down...
Just being fit and athletic is enough to make anyone have sex appeal, bodies in motion is sexy, and I think that is why alot of comments are being made on the appearances of the athletes- they do have impressive bodies and those bodies actually come in all shapes and sizes (just look at the difference between May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings).
