The following excerpt is taken from a piece posted to Joni Mitchell's official site three months ago:
Miss Mitchell, held up as the high priestess of folk/pop music by millions, has been out of sight in recent years. She has concentrated on her painting. Less pleasantly, she suffers from something called "Morgellons Syndrome" which she has described as "a slow, unpredictable killer."
However, we might have some good news for fans of this great artist. Joni's old friend David Geffen is reportedly "wooing" her to perform a series of shows at his Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. Those in the know and/or of a certain age, recall that Joni's celebrated "Free Man in Paris" song was written with Geffen in mind.
Another old pal of Joni's, Herbie Hancock, is also supposedly encouraging this venture, which could include some of the musicians who worked with Joni back in the day. If all that is planned and hoped for comes about, there will be a concert highlight sure to send Mitchell's fans into delirium--a track by track re-creation of the legendary Court and Spark album, which spawned such hits as "Help Me (I Think I'm Falling") and "Raised on Robbery."
Does anyone know if this has moved forward at all? Of all the legendary artists who are still with us, Joni is very near the top of the list that I have never seen and wish I could sometday.

I love me some Joni - both her older folky stuff and the later jazzy stuff with Jaco Pastorius. But she hasn't played in many years and seems to be a bit crazy. (Joni, if you're reading this, please focus on the first part, where I profess my love.) This Morgellons Syndrome, which many doctors don't even recognize as a real disease, is characterized by delusions that you have parasites in and on you. I think the odds of us ever seeing Joni perform live again are extremely remote.
Joni Mitchell is DEFINITELY near the top of my musical wish/bucket list. What a horrible existence, though, should this be an accurate diagnosis. My heart goes out to her.
Wow, I didn't realize she was suffering from something so awful. Very sad to hear but perhaps explains her retreat from the spotlight and refocus on something like painting. Still, as I said, my OP came from her official site from April of this year, so perhaps she is contemplating taking to the stage one final time. Selfish to hope for, but I still do.
