Now that it has been out for almost a year, IMO, Watch the Throne is the best rap/hip hop album of all time. Also anyone who thought any rap album last year was better IMO either can't make an opinion without pitchfork or they are too bias.
4. In high school I had my bedroom tricked out with this pieced-together surround sound system from a family member's old system and some other speakers I managed to find. After school, for months--months--I would come home and blast Lil' Jon & The Eastside Boyz' "Throw It Up" over and over and it would shake the whole house. I would slamdance in my room and sh*t. I still love that song.
This will probably be unpopular, but here goes. Try as I may, I just cannot get into the music of The Avett Brothers. Skipped them on the farm to stay at Fitz & the Tantrums, and will probably skip them at Midtown to get a good spot for FF.
Back on topic: I feel like the overwhelming majority of "new Americana" bands like Dawes, Deer Tick, Delta Spirit, etc. are painfully boring and mediocre. The type of band where I can kick back at a festival and have them in the background if there's nothing else going on, but not one that does anything for me, at all.
I think it just depends on the setting. Deer Tick, in particular, works much better at night in an intimate venue than they do at a daytime festival set. I've seen them twice at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville, and both were very loud and rocking shows, and John McCauley tends to get hammered drunk. I also think Dawes is surprisingly upbeat and rocking live, especially since their studio material is relatively somber. I can't speak to Delta Spirit.

I just saw Dawes at a 500 seat venue. Odd show in that there were definitely parts where they were just the backing track to our evening, but a 5-6 songs really caught our attention.

Deer Tick played a nearly all Replacements/Nirvana cover set as a last-minute replacement for Mogwai at Sasquatch this year and it was incredible. I saw them play their own stuff earlier that day and they seemed to be having more fun playing covers. Both sets were great though.

I went to a Sum 41, Chevelle, Shinddown, The Offspring and Stained concert. It cost me $20 and the only reason I went is because of the tailgate we had planned. We showed up at the venue to be told the venue now enforced a "no tailgating" rule.
It was, by far, the worst concert-going experience of my life.
