I'm a pretty good athlete and not an entirely stupid individual but I have absolutely no clue what you're supposed to do while playing this thing. So you pass the ball around with a scoop and shoot it in a 15 inch hole to score? Is that the jist of it?

basically. WHAT IS WHIRLYBALL? WhirlyBall, dubbed “The worlds only totally mechanized team sport”, is best described as a combination of Basketball, Hockey and Jai-Alai played while riding an electrically powered machine, similar to a bumper car, called a WhirlyBug. Although the WhirlyBug resembles a bumper car, it is a far superior machine. Quicker, stronger and far more maneuverable, the WhirlyBug powers you and your team down court in a five on five game.
WhirlyBall is a team sport and a fun group activity. The playing court is approximately 4,000 sq. ft. and there are 10 WhirlyBugs on the playing court at one time, five red and five yellow. In one hand the player has a Jai-Alai style plastic scoop and in the other hand a steering crank. The ball being tossed around is a softball sized whiffle ball.
At each end of the court there are vertically hung backboards with a 15 inch hole in the center. Behind the hole is a plexiglass swing gate equipped with a buzzer to notify the referee when a score is made. The referee is the person sitting in the elevated booth above the court who will call play by play during the game, keep score and assess any penalties incurred. Before you go out on the court, the referee will go over the rules and give you a brief rundown on how to play WhirlyBall. Participating center rules and safety requirements may vary.

I can't view the living social deal because I'm not a "member"... but I see the package comes with pizza and unlimited sodas. If that is the case, I will bring my flask.
I live approx. 7 minutes from the Whirlyball. Never been there but I will offer up my house as base of operations if we need one. I think by MM weekend it will be too cool for the pool though. However, it will still be open and clean if anyone really feels like taking a dip.
If you have never played Whirleyball . . . . you are missing out. I got the chance to play in Detroit a couple years ago during a company seminar and did not think I would have nearly that much fun. I don't know if I will make it down for Music Midtown, but I will make it for Whirleyball.
we have 12 that have posted in the thread that they are going. we can have up to 15. also there is only 5 days left on the living social deal. if we're going to do this i will need to collect the money from everyone now to pay for it. it should be like $12 per person.
I'll need us to confirm a time/date for this before I'm able to pay. I will need to get back to Nashville that Sunday at some point, preferably before dark (cause, ya know, I'm an old lady). So if it turns out we're not going until like 2pm, I'll probably be out....

I will definitely play if I make it to Music Midtown, which I'm hoping to do. I would prefer late night after the shows, or Sunday afternoon after 1, but do whatever is best for everyone else, obviously. This is a great idea.
Sidenote: I'm really competitive and have only meet a couple of you. I look forward to losing you all as friends as soon as we meet.
Side, sidenote: Whirlyball "touchdown dances" are cool, right?
I'm not thinking its be a good idea for LN. it's too far north to taxi cheaply, and finding everyone after mm is over sounds like a logistical nightmare to me. I'd like to enjoy and have relax time on mm day I'm not opposed to Sunday at 10 though. Or hell, if this is getting to be a cluster, we get the package, and plan a separate ATL weekend? A la January Inforoo meetup weekend at the halfway-to-Roo point?
