Yeah joking about EDM, but totally serious about Dada-roo. Instead of tickets everyone gets mailed an onion. The sound from the what stage is broadcast on the Which and vice versa. So much we could do with it.
There are a ton of EDM festivals, and from what I gather they have as high, if not a higher attendance then most festivals.
There's also a sweet Electric Daisy Carnival documentary on NetFlix.
To keep it relevant: After a lot of following this thread, I feel pretty good about Macca--Mumford & Sons-- Fleetwood Mac
Pretty boring as far as guesses go, but I'd be thrilled to see them.
Just because there all-EDM festivals exist, doesn't mean Roo and other festivals shouldn't have a good EDM representation. I wouldn't want to go to an all-EDM festival, I like diversity. I think most people are looking more for a Lolla type of set-up with a dedicated stage, but where acts like Little Dragon and Santigold played as well, even if they're not straight EDM music.

I don't know about all you folks but I'm not big on multiple repeat headliners. Looking back, the headliners go a long way in defining Roo each year. '09 was nonstop Phish. '10 was Stevie Wunderbar. '11 had an amazing night of MMJ > Arcade Fire, followed up by a totally weak Black Keys > Eminem.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Pearl Jam, Radiohead, and Kanye on the same bill. I really would. But there's another part of me that just wants Roo to keep it fresh and avoid recycling headliners. Does anybody else feel this way or am I just being a drunk on Christmas Eve?
Merry X-Mas ya filthy animals - I feel pretty positive on getting some insider love before January.
I can't disagree with what you're saying in principle, but If I had to guess most people go to maybe 1-2 Roos? I've been to 2 so far and I'm sure at some point I will atop going. Maybe 2-3 more? The point I'm getting at is that I wasn't there in 08 to see PJ. Or 06 to see Petty. So a recycled headliner, as long as it isn't from 11 or 12 I'm good. 5-7 years between headliners is out of the range of most people who go to Roo in my estimation. I'd be surprised if I go to 6 straight.
I agree with the defining of the weekend by something. It's different every time though. So if we get Macca, PJ and Petty as a top 3, well, I have a feeling 80,000 people having a 2 hour sing along would pretty well define the weekend. I believe very strongly that if he's there, the whole weekend will be incredibly happy and fun in a heightened, different way than, say, the fest being defined by radiohead. Not better or worse, just a different vibe.
Btw, in 11 I camped out at Which on Saturday, and it was magnificent. Mumford > Buffalo Springfield was pretty awesome if you ask me. Then wandered over to check out Em for half hour and bailed. It definitely was awful.

People need to realize that there are just so many artists that can headline. Yeah, new bands emerge (Arcade Fire), but there is really such a limited amount that: a) are big enough to headline, b) are willing to travel to the middle of nowhere for a hot and humid festival, c) fit the Roo "demographic", d) Roo is willing to pay.
It's evident that after 11 years of a festival, you're going to have to have repeat headliners who know the festival and are willing to come back and have proven that they are wanted by the Roo crowd and can get a good draw. Plus, there really aren't many new bands emerging that are fit to headline.

I strongly regret not seeing Buffalo Springfield. Never expected the Keys and Eminem to disappoint like that. I remember they each only played an hour, no more. But the night before was so amazing that it didn't really matter. I had seen MMJ > Arcade Fire up close and then hit Big Boi. It was an unbelievable night.
Anyway, at least we know that when we get repeat headliners, they are kick ass shows. Except Widespread, derp
Merry Christmas everybody! Especially Bonzai, Scrog, Abra, Dave, Phi, Flanzo, Horn, Garageland, CKS, Druid, ITM, Juggs, I'm sure I've left someone out but my brain isn't working due to lack of sleep and massive amounts of sugar for breakfast.
And have a happy and healthy New Year, may the troll season be gentle and kind, and may insider give you great news.
I had a very specific dream last night that I saw Macca on two large screens singing "Wonderful Christmas Time" in a farm like area. I think it was Jesus speaking to me, giving me wonderful Christmas news. Or the bottle of Nyquil I chugged because of the flu.
Either way it's good news in my book! Merry Christmas to all!
