I'm guessing that the surprises he is talking about will just be guests at sets that are already on the schedule.
I wonder how much Bonnaroo knows about typical guest sit ins before they happen. I would assume that's less of Bonnaroo's doing, and more of the artists trying to make their set extra special.

I think sometimes it's a mix. Maybe they put some collaborations together while others are just the artists asking friends to sit in.

This is accurate. They say essentially that in the roo book.
gov't mule has a show in chattanooga on 6/10(sunday) and is going from texas to Charlotte with a day to spare on the 9th.. Maybe a surprise mule show on the 8th?
I did a little sleuthing. Abigail Washburn retweeted Ashley Capps' latest tweet about special guests.
Bluegrass Supergroup may be a thing afterall.
This sounds the most plausible at this point. I wanna believe about the MCA tribute but I don't wanna get my hopes up just yet. Another idea is a Phil Lesh tribute of sorts or a combo of MCA/Lesh stuff.

Maybe it's just my cynical nature but every time I hear about these "mind blowing surprises!!!!!" I just find it very hard to get excited, because Bonnaroo has made empty promises like this before. Remember last years "extra special tenth anniversary?" it's kind of tough, because OBVIOUSLY its gonna be special just like every Bonnaroo, but god damn they overhyped it last year and I was surprised because there were actually less surprises and special guests last year than I've ever seen.
I guess I'll be the first to bite, and suggest looking waaaaay to far into the use of"blow your mind", "mind blowing", "minds will be blown", etc.......
Obviously he has an incredibly dark sense of humor and it's a Kurt Cobain hologram.

What do you mean? Last year was one of the best years for Bonnaroo ever. Bonnaroo got a one off reunion show from Buffalo Springfield. They had a Friday night double headlining bill of My Morning Jacket and Arcade Fire. They had late night sets from big names such as String Cheese Incident and Lil Wayne. They brought back Widespread Panic, who were critical in the early success of Bonnaroo (even though most of us hate on them). They got Dr. John to perform Destively Bonnaroo and organized a memorable SuperJam. They had Eugene Hutz curate a world music stage (which was much better than this year's curated world music stage). They had a band on the lineup write a song specifically for Bonnaroo (Preservation Hall Jazz Band). Finally, they helped organize an awesome late night parade. The only real let down last year was a headlining set from Eminem, but that's debatable.
I'm curious to announcements as well. If the consensus is that they will announce surprises via Twitter then I want to make a Twitter account before Bonnaroo. But if it'll be word of mouth then there doesn't seem like much you can do to find out. Last year I never heard about the parade, I just happened to stumble across it. And Deervana I didn't find out about until I got on here once I got back.
I missed both of these last year. I heard a drunk girl talking about the parade, and it was probably the first time I've ever kicked myself for not listening to a drunk girl.
Isn't it part of the "bonnaroovian" code to leave the outside world outside? I feel like twitter and facebook are about as outside as you can get. I certainly hope there will be some word of mouth buzzing about whatever suprises are in store. I know I'll be much more inclined to listen this time around.

I feel like last year they did have some awesome surprises, though. The Deervana set was awesome for those who attended, the parade with Preservation Hall Jazz Band and members of MMJ leading a crowd to a secret Portugal. The Man set ontop of a parade float is really cool. The falling lights from the sky during Primus/Arcade Fire was really sweet. In addition to the collaborations going on I'd say they had a lot of cool surprises and stuff. I'm hoping for more of the same.
I agree with mc. It's hard to put too much stock into anything. An mca tribute with the remaining beasties would be awesome, but I'll believe it if I see it.
Just don't get your hopes up. I'm guessing my mind won't be blown at all by the guests or special announcements when they are made known (my mind would be blown by NYCH and Santana if they were added).
I'm on board with it being either this Bluegrass supergroup thing or adding Beastie's to the Superjam. Given the recent addition of Atoms For Peace DJ set at Moma soon, this could also be possible.
Perhaps the schedule booklet we will get at the gates will already have printed something for Which on Friday night. This will be the first page I flip to while they are strapping my wristband on.
