Who the hell is Rodriguez and why are people excited?
Long story short: genius musician was hiding out living a simple life in Africa or something and little did he know but music he put out decades prior resurfaced and he started to get a huge fan following. They went to Africa or wherever he was, found him, told him that everyone loved his music and so he came back and started making more. And it kicks ass.
That's my generally understanding of it. I was skeptical until I listened to his stuff on Spotify. He is going to do well at Coach.

Sounds like a gimmick
While his story and the documentary have certainly helped him gain popularity, the talent and songwriting is definitely there. Lots of artists have gimmicks. Bruce Springsteen(working class New Jersey man), White Stripes(Brother/Sister), Daft Punk(robots), Flaming Lips(pretty much everything do)
Heres the basic Rodriguez story: 1. Rodriguez is from Detroit. He recorded two albums in the 70's. 2nd album was expected to be big, but did nothing in the US. He gives up music. 2. He becomes incredibly popular in South Africa and Australia. He never knows this and never sees any of the money. 3. People in SA and AUS think Rodriguez is dead. The myth is that he killed himself on stage. 4. In the late nineties some South Africans try to figure out what exactly happened to Rodriguez. They eventually contact him. 5. Rodriguez tours South Africa and plays fairly large venues. 6. He gives most of the money away that he earns and still lives very modestly. He still hasn't received any money from his original record labels.

Watch the documentary "Searching For Sugarman." It is definitely one of my favorite movies of last year.
60 minutes did a story on him a couple months ago too. It was one of those times it was on as background noise and I ended up completely enthralled in his story. Cool story and awesome songwriter

The Rodriguez song "I Wonder" was a huge success in South Africa, especially with soliders fighting apartheid and missing their significant others. Have a listen..
Suprefan knows nothing. But he really likes acting like he does.
Today is just the most likely date for a number of reasons. Once it was clear that they weren't announcing last week, everyone assumed it has to be today. Yesterday was MLK day and the inauguration, so it's unlikely they'd drop it then. Primavera drops tomorrow, and people seem to think they want theirs out before that. So it's today by default.
It can't be any later than next Tuesday/Wednesday, so we have a week at the absolute most. But GOD I hope it's today, I'm getting really, really antsy to see the lineup.
Still, wouldn't it be weird for them to announce the lineup without ANY prior warning? Or has Goldenvoice done that before?

I'm not getting my hopes up. It will only be disappointing when the lineup doesn't come.
What if today was the announcement for the lineup to come out Friday for an on-sale next Monday? I just want everyone out there in the interwebs to stop pretending that they are "in the know" when they are clearly not! But if it comes today, I will be very happy

But some people actually are "in the know." You just have to have a good BS detector so that you can tell who's full of sh*t and who isn't. It wasn't just suprefan that I was referring to with the chatter. There seems to be a consensus forming that today is the day, or maybe tomorrow.
Like I said, I'd be surprised to see them drop it with ZERO prior warning, but I'm certainly hopeful.
Also, Pearl Jam just made an announcement on their Facebook/Twitter, telling people to "stay tuned." For some reason they haven't been brought up as a possible headliner in a long time, I honestly wonder if they might be in there?
Or it's been Pearl Jam the entire time. 20 year anniversary and all.
I don't think Coachella/GV really gives a sh*t about that "20 year" thing, though. They might be there, but that won't be the reason why.
On the other hand, they may very well give a shit. Probably just a coincidence though.
I've read that their 10th album will probably be released this year. I'm surprised more people aren't bringing them up as the "shared" coach-Roo HL honestly.
