I go for the groundscores, and the money I make working for Clean Vibes that helps me stay on the road all summer. The music is a nice added bonus tho, and if I'm lucky I may get to hang out with a few of the dozens of friends who will be there a couple of times over the weekend.
In my 3rd year going to Bonnaroo, we waited in line for 9 hours and it started raining when we set up tent, and our site was a much longer walk than past years. I thought this is the last year I'm doing this, what am I doing here, I'm too old for this, etc... As I walked to the music venues, I started soaking in that familiar feeling of communion for the spirit that is Bonnaroo. I felt relaxed and excited at the same time. I felt secure that I would be in for a stimulating time- talking and passing the day with strangers- people I would have never had the chance to meet in my day-to-day life. I knew I would carry back good memories of people allowing themselves to let loose and open up to all new possibilities. It was so easy..."so who have you listened to that you liked?"...and the doors would be wide open. So I'm back for my 5th- and I agree with you. It's about the people; the music is the glue.
