I am a Roo virgin at 54. I'm am not so much into music, but I do like all the music I listen to as I check out the bands. I am more into people. People who do what they want and have fun. Maybe it's a mid-life crisis or something, but I want to have fun and watch other people having fun. Does anyone else come to Roo for the people?
I dont care as much for the music as others seem to as well. A few names I recognize and then I figure the rest will just be wandering and finding interest in new artists when there. I love seeing the people and observing. Getting the whole experience, really. community, peoples reactions and variation in clothing/etc, music, etc...

I really think Bonnaroo is way more than just music. Don't get me wrong I love the music but I think it's only about 50% maybe even less of the festival experience. I wish everyone had that Roo mentality where I live.

No. Because that's why I buy my ticket ASAP, before line-up. I already know the bands are going to be good and I will know some artists and will appreciate some new artists (new to me at least) along the way. The people, man. It's the people. It's a small community that comes back to relive the experiences year and year again that's different from "Out There". Most liked-minded people in the world, most of which will love your company, offer you a drink/shade/a spot on their sheet, sit back and talk to you. You're both there, enjoying it and letting nothing get in the way of that. You plan to meet at shows, you ask your neighbor if they want eggs one morning, they call you over to give you a sip of some Jack, they say "Bye, we'll see ya'll later" as they head to Centeroo, you say "How was it?" when they get back and you both relate to the shows and the people and it's just...

Also, some of the most visually comical stuff I've ever seen has been at The Farm. Last year, as we were walking back to our campsite in VIP around 3 A.M., we passed this dude who was standing way off by himself in a field -- inside a 50 gallon metal trash can, wearing a Speedo, and holding a cardboard sign that said "Sh!tty Advice: $1". My son handed the dude a buck, and the dude told him, "Finish college. When you get out, send me your resume."

I skipped 2010 because I didn't care for the lineup and skipped 2011 because of personal reasons... but looking back now, I regret missing both. I miss the people. I miss the atmosphere. I miss Bonnaroo in general. After a two year break, all this planning and obsessing over Roo makes me feel like I'm going home.

I've always said I'd go to Bonnaroo even if it didn't feature any music. Music is just the icing on the cake.
The people at Roo literally changed my life. They gave me faith in humanity. Most of all, they showed me that there are a lot of people in this world like me...when before attending Roo at 22 I had felt mostly like an outcast, being an atheist intellectual hedonist in the heart of the Bible Belt. Roo is my one time a year to hang out with a bunch of people who are complete strangers that I feel like are all my best friends. They understand me. I understand them. The only downside is having to leave everyone...but there's always next year.

Nothing wrong with that at all I personally am pretty anti-social, so I prefer to just sit back and people watch. I stick with my small group of friends, or am alone and I'm good with that. For me it's really all about the music.

Music, especially live music, is one of the great joys of my life. (Although watching women with well-defined calves crush small furry animals under their stiletto heels is a close second.) I've met some great people over the years at Roo and I love to see them. The people and celebration can enhance the music. But it's a music festival for me -- pure and simple.
I am 50 and get the Mid-Life crisis thing from the family. I just explain to them Daddy being different for a time may be a crisis for them but is is not one for me.
I love the music and the people. Also I like to stay around young people it helps me not complain about them. haha
honestly, this is my first year, and I'm more excited about the people than I am the bands, BUT that's also probably because I don't know who almost 75% of them are.. ;D But Just being on here, and seeing how the atmosphere is with all these people has made me SUPER STOKED about actually meeting them. I have to admit though- I dooo love "people watching". It's fascinating what someone will do when they think nobody's looking..
Don't get me wrong- I'm sure there is plenty of amazing music. I just don't know about it... yet The people are what Make Bonnaroo, I think. And like someone said up above- Music is just the icing on the cake. I've never been to a Roo, But I already feel like I have a family that can't wait for me to come visit. Does that sound weird? probably.. But it is- it's The people are the heartbeat and backbone of Roo, without a doubt. Well- and the folks that put it all together. But that's still "people", so ya.
bonnaroo is a music festival, if you want to go people watching you could probably do it for way cheaper.
Actually, music and arts festival, although the music does overpower the arts, but....
I'm about 8 miles from the Beale St Music Festival, and will probably go because a lot of really good bands, but, it's nothing like roo, nothing like the people.
We are going home, in a way, each of us....not lame at all.
Don't get me wrong, the first thing that drew me to 'Roo back in 2007 was the music. I was plannin' on seein' The Police on their reunion tour anyway, so why not pay some extra money to catch them and a huge amount of other bands (a few I knew, many I did not)? But I knew by the end of it I'd be back, regardless of the lineup; and 2008 was good but not a favorite overall. The whole atmosphere of the festival is what provides the biggest draw fer me these days. As long as they provide a decent lineup fer me to enjoy as well I will be on The Farm.
