As a Boston sports fan, I can't relate at all. Everyone you'll ever see at a Pats, C's, or Sox game is as pure as they come. Truly a classy experience full of intelligent conversation and absolutely no confrontation. You'll surely never hear the n-word.
True for the most part. You can't say "everyone" though. Every fan base will always have d-bags. Unfortunate but true.

I got beer poured on me by Jets fans when I was 12 years old. My dad took me and a few of my friends to the Colts-Jets playoff game in 2003 (I think that's what year it was) for my birthday. When I went to get up to go to the bathroom or whatever I was doing, two guys sitting behind us poured beer on me for no reason at all.
By the way, I'm a Jets fan. The only reason I can think of why they poured the beer on me was to simulate a Gatorade bath celebrating the whoopin we gave the Colts that day.

Ah man, sarcasm on top of sarcasm - good stuff. Unless one or both of you are serious. Then I will have to wave a little thing I like to call the Ferdinand Patties flag.

Well yeah, but it was much more than that. He's been garbage all year. He's a one-trick pony (pass-rushing, also largely a component of Washburn's awful "wide-9" scheme that Babin was under in both Philly and Tennessee) and he hasn't even been doing that well this year. He is absolutely atrocious against the run, so when he can't get to the QB he is a huge liability on the field. Plus we have two young promising DE's that need more playing time, and frankly Babin was just getting in the way. Plus there's the money aspect. I've been waiting for him to get cut for a few weeks now, I'm grateful for what he did for us last year but he just wasn't a fit for this team anymore

Eagles fans keep talking about how bad Babin is against the run. According to PFF (Pro Football Focus), he's the 3rd best run defender on Philly.
I agree he's not doing as well as a pass rusher this year as he did last year, and I don't even think cutting him was a bad idea considering the depth the Eagles have at DE and the fact they got another team to take on Babin's contract in its entirety (meaning they don't carry over any future cap hits for cutting him) is a huge win for them.
I just don't get why Philly fans picked him out as the poor run defender. Jenkins and Landri have both been pretty terrible against the run (Fletcher Cox looks to be the future stud they were hoping for, at least). Trent Cole does face doubles all game, so that should help Babin be more effective in the passing game, but you can't use that excuse for the run defense. Babin's been solid, if nothing special. As a Jets fan, I know a lynch mob when I see one, I just think people are taking a logical and beneficial roster move (for both parties - Babin doesn't waste a season late in his career, Philly gets off the hook for his contract) and using it to trash a guy for on field play that wasn't really that substandard.
The wide-9 is hilarious to me. If you don't have an Albert Haynesworth (the version that actually tried) in the middle, you can't run it. The Eagles didn't have a guy like that, they never should have run it. Cole/Babin can get pressure from a standard 4-man set, so it never made sense to me.

I have no idea what Pro Football Focus is or how they come up with that ranking (or how they grade DE vs. DT for that matter...) but saying he's the 3rd best run stopper on an atrocious defense isn't really saying much... especially when he's getting paid as a #1 option.
And yeah, I never understood the Wide-9 either. ESPECIALLY with the linebacking core we had last year (maybe the worst I've ever seen). It makes a little more sense this year now that we got DeMeco Ryans but it's still pretty stupid and I can't wait to see it follow Jim Washburn, Marty Mohrinweg and probably Andy Reid out the door

PFF is my favorite site for football analysis. When we were debating Dickey/Kershaw I mentioned "football sabermetrics," which aren't as detailed as baseball sabermetrics, but are way more detailed than standard statistics.
They rate every player on every play for every team in every game. Twice, to make sure the people analyzing the games are keeping objectivity. They break out offense into standard positions (QB, RB, WR, T, G, C, TE), defensive front seven players into 3-4 or 4-3 positions (3-4 OLB, 3-4 DE, 4-3 OLB, 4-3 DE, DT/NT, MLB/ILB) and then standard DB positions (S, CB). A player gets a (+), (-), or nothing depending on whether they make a play, let a play be made, or have a stalemate. Depending on the severity of a play the grade given to a play will be higher or lower. For example, a 7-second coverage sack would get less of an uptick than a DE swimming a slow OT off the snap and crushing the QB in under 2 seconds. On the flip side, the negative score for the tackle that gets beat quickly will be greater than the score for the tackle that held his own for 7 seconds and his QB just didn't throw it away. They also have signature stats like pass rushing efficiency (for both DL and the OL), passing efficiency under pressure, passer rating by area (9-space grid with 5 yards and under, 5-15 yards, 15+ and right/center/middle), QB rating against for defensive players and so on.
So Babin as a 4-3 DE is 28th against the run, so you're right saying the "third best" comment doesn't really mean anything. He's average (28th out of 65), and you put it best when you said he's being paid to be a #1 guy. His 20 QB hurries is 24th for 4-3 DE's, that's not worth the money or the headache.
It does, however, speak volumes about what direction the Philly FO is going. And I have a feeling Babin is not going to be the last "big name" player that will be taking a hike before next season.
Vick being the most obvious option, Nnamdi is a strong possibility too. I honestly kind of hope they just restructure both, though, which is also a strong possibility. Nnamdi is still a good cornerback, just not the top-3 $15m/year caliber CB that he's due to be paid like next season. And while he has been burned quite a few times since he came here which has the fans screaming for his head, a lot of it has been due to: a.) Him being completely misused by Juan Castillo all of last year in soft zone schemes when his entire game is based around press man coverage and jamming receivers at the line, and b.) Absolutely HORRENDOUS Safety play out of Kurt Coleman and especially Nate Allen ever since Nnamdi's been on the team. Pretty tough to play cornerback when you have to play the entire field yourself because your safeties are constantly blowing coverages and biting on every play action and pump fake like they've never seen one before.
Vick honestly I think should come back next year if we can restructure his deal to a reasonable price as well. Again, like Nnamdi with the safeties, any Quarterback would look pretty bad behind the offensive line we've given him this year. It, like the linebacking corps they sported last season, may be the worst I've ever seen in my days of watching football in it's current depleted status. I'm not saying he's gonna be 2010 Vick again, but give him a healthy Jason Peters (A top 5 LT before his injury. He may not return to that elite status but still very good), a healthy Jason Kelce (Young center who already showed promise to be one of the better centers in the league in his rookie year last year), a healthy Todd Herremans (Who can play any OL position) and hopefully Luke Joeckel, the best O-Lineman in College Football this year and I think you'll see a LOT closer to 2010/2011 Vick than what happened this year. Besides, Nick Foles has not impressed AT ALL in his limited playing time or really shown any flashes of anything that inspires confidence, and the QB class is reallllly weak this year.
I've been hearing speculation that Trent Cole could be seen the door too, but that would be a huge mistake IMO because one of the main things I think this team is missing are true LEADERS, i.e. Dawkins, Trotter, Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, Brian Westbrook. Instead we have guys like Big Money DeSean, Big Pu**y Maclin and Big summers breeze Babin. Trent Cole is one of the few "leader" type players on our defense, and really entire team, outside of DeMeco Ryans.
That being said, I wouldn't be at all surprised if at least 2 of those 3 were shown the door, however I think Babin was the only one that really needed to go.

There are so many similarities between the Jets and Eagles rosters the more I look at them. DRC reminds me of Cromartie. DRC would be incredible if he pressed guys at the LOS every play. He's freakishly strong for a CB (like Revis & Cro) and if he just held a guy at bay for 3 seconds the Eagles would generate a ton more pressure. He's exactly like Cromartie, who refused to press players even though the coaches said he played best when he pressed receivers. It got to the point that the team literally sat him down and showed him a video of every play he pressed the receiver in 2011 and the resulting pass play (this was only if he was targeted). His QB rating against when he presses guys was like 15 or something absurd. DRC is the same way. He refuses to press guys consistently. There is NO WAY on earth that Louis Murphy should run a fly route and just sprint past DRC without so much as a shove. Inexcusable, and with Bowles being a DB coach it's pretty surprising to see something like that.
As for Nnamdi, he's just gotten old. Castillo envisioned him in the Charles Woodson role, a hybrid S/CB type who is a rover and basically picks whatever the hell he wants to do. Only problem was Nnamdi/Juan was not exactly Woodson/Capers. Now, Nnamdi is getting #1 CB money except he's not playing as the #1 Cb. He's 100% gone this year unless he restructures.
Do you think Vick starts when he's healthy? Or do they keep riding with Foles to see if he's worth investing time/money into? I think they go with the latter, with Andy trying to show the future is now (to try and save his job). Vick has that $15 mil option, so he's getting cut.
Jason Peters was the best tackle in football last year, without question. I actually think Vick's play last year was worse than this year considering the OL. Demetrius Bell was a disaster, and I knew it would be having watched him suck with the Billdos his entire career until his contract year. And it's no secret the Iggles' OL was decimated by injury. Pretty sure they're starting 1 guy they intended to start during training camp (Mathis). I just don't see Vick back there, especially if Reid is gone.
Desean isn't going anywhere (and I think he gets a bad rap, to be honest - he does a ton of charitable work), Maclin is entering his contract year so it will be interesting to see what they do with him. If they let Cole go I will be in his front yard with a Jets jersey for him in 10 seconds. That guy is awesome, but I read something about him storming out of a DL meeting (didn't get to read the article, was it because of Babin getting cut?) so maybe they ship him out to get picks and speed up the rebuilding process?
Btw, 4/1/2013. That's the date where most roster bonuses kick in, so any big name players that teams aren't going to want to pay a couple million in one paycheck will be getting cut before then. Vick will be on that list, I'm 99% certain about that. The Jets will have a ton of guys on that list as well (Calvin Pace and Bart Scott? Come on down!!!).
Yeah, the Chiefs might be the most dysfunctional team in the league this year now. That's just horrible for those in the organization, and I'm not talking KC's efforts on the field now.

I don't think this reflects on the organization's dysfunction at all. We have no idea what kind of stressors or issues that this guy was having that had absolutely zero to do with football.
Another report says that they has a ~4 month old child together. I hope the child is safe.
