Let's not let Bleacher Report off the hook that easy. Just because they are on CNN now doesn't mean they don't still suck.
Bleacher Report has actually attempted to get credibility, though. They now at least tell the reader if this is a columnist they pay, or some random buffoon with a keyboard sounding off about his emotional grievances.
I don't really count BR as the same thing as PFT, anyway, since PFT is a "news" outlet and backed by NBC, I would assume they'd try to have even a shred of self-respect.
Mike Florio is top-3 d-bags that cover the NFL.
Fair point. I honestly haven't been to Bleacher Report, for an extend amount of time, in a while. If I saw one more slide show about the "Greatest Alternate Road Uniforms of All Time" or something like that, I was going to gouge my own eyes out.
And, yes, we can all agree that Florio is a big, steaming pile of douche.
I think it'd be hilarious if they signed him to a 1-day contract just to walk around Metlife Stadium in that jacket one Sunday next season.
He's "down to" 308 pounds. That just keeps jumping out at me. A former #1 overall draft pick QB who signed a deal worth more than $50 million overall is staging a comeback where the most positive news is he's "down to" 308 pounds.

NFP GB connection is Andrew Brandt. Thought it might be Bryan Broadus, another phone scout, and one of Lamebardi's butt buddies from his two years in Philadelphia, keep hearing his name in Cleveland too. The Browns are even more hosed than usual.

NFP is awesome in the month leading up to the draft. The guy who handles most of the mock draft stuff is named Wes something and he is money. Great analysis. It's a wet dream for anybody enjoys the little nitty gritty details of the game.
On weeknights in April I always like to sit around with some Wachusett Country Ale and read his stuff, then immediately go to highlight reels of the players I read about on YouTube. It gets pretty nerdy but it makes the later rounds of the draft really exciting.

Also, I did with little sleep, there may be a typo, if so, final copy out tomorrow
I'm rooting for SF but I think the Ravens win it. They are evenly matched but SF seems more likely to make a game changing mistake via Kaepernick inexperience against an opportunistic Ravens D or Akers missing a chip shot FG.
Going to say this first so I don't come off as a bitter hater:
I'm happy for the Ravens and their fans, especially Ray Rice (who gave me a concussion in high school).
That being said: Thank GOD the Ray Lewis lovefest is over with.
Here's Ray Ray settling for holding Jim Nant'z hand since Nantz wouldn't relinquish the mic for Ray Ray to preach on. God bless Nantz, if he didn't hold strong Ray Ray would be announcing March Madness before he put that damn thing down.
Other highlights/lowlights of the Super Bowl:
- The display of horrified and bewildered faces in the Bar Rafaeli commercial (where she kisses the chubby nerd looking guy).
- Twitter exploding with stupid during the blackout.
- Twitter exploding with stupid in general.
- Every female on my Facebook newsfeed emphatically posting about how "THAT's a show" (re: Beyonce) and acting like the reason they've held over 40 Super Bowls is because they wanted to slowly ascend to the culmination of all that is life....Beyonce's halftime performance. Relax. We get it, she's great, you all love her, she didn't steal the night. The football game that went to the final play did, sorry if that is upsetting in any way (not really).
- The collective sphincter tightening of the City of Baltimore at the end of the 3rd quarter.
- The guy who came to my front door asking if he could sh*t in my bathroom (seriously, this happened midway through the 2nd quarter).
- Joe Flacco's waxing specialist.
- NFL linemen in jerseys that their cheerleaders would need to suck in their stomachs to squeeze into.
- Every childish, immature, foot-stamping Harbaugh meltdown (there were many, they were all amazing).
- Puppy Bowl/Lingerie Bowl (in that order)
- Anquan Boldin's pure beastitude.
- Joe Flacco, emotions.
- Navorro Bowman, emotions
- The no-call.
- Biggest lowlight: San Fran's clock management & playcalling inside of 2 minutes (Andy Reid is looking into suing for copyright infringement).
Overall: Thought it was a very good game, had its quirks to make it unique, came down to the last possession and Simms/Nantz did their best to ignore Ray Lewis as much as humanly possible.
Next year's Super Bowl is in the Meadowlands, enjoy 3948739873967345896734956875467464 articles between then and now about the big, bad Northeast weather and how SUPER BOWLS WERE NOT MADE FOR SUCH BARBARIC SETTINGS.
- The guy who came to my front door asking if he could sh*t in my bathroom (seriously, this happened midway through the 2nd quarter).
And?
I wouldn't let him, but I gave him a plastic bag and a bunch of napkins, and pointed him in the direction of the apartment complex 2 blocks away. I also gave him a warm beer.
And you're right, Culliver getting pooped on (no pun intended) was a great highlight.
My friend put it pretty well when he said "....yeah, Baltimore, thanks for hooking the jumper cables up to Flacco's neck bolts to remind him that Culliver is atrocious, it only took a quarter and a half to remember."
Baltimore destroyed him early, then ignore his side completely, then when they needed to win it was like "oh, sh*t, totally forgot that Boldin is infinitely better than that little idiot Culliver."
With the Super Bowl at the meadowlands I wonder what the opening line on a Giants/Broncos Super Bowl is going to be. I'm gettin on that early as storylines seems to be king in the NFL these days.

There's been a lot of teeth-gnashing here over the failure to punch it in from the 5. But the more troubling failures were defensive. They just dug too big a hole in the 1st half.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the 49ers back next year either, but I think it's important to remember how insanely healthy they've been the last two years. What was their biggest injury the last couple seasons. Manningham? Kendall Hunter? If they aren't as lucky next year (which seems likely) it'll certainly hurt their chances.

Justin Smith's torn triceps hurt a lot. Aldon Smith also had a shoulder injury that we never got details on. But a team that was giving up 15 or so points a game suddenly started giving up twice that. They couldn't get a pass rush going, which obviously exposes the secondary.
And I don't want to talk about whatever snapped inside of David Akers mind.
So... Flanz.. Looks like both our teams have a Ryan. What do I do from here?
Prepare for a year or two of defensive transition where they team will be better than the prior year, but not that great (Nawlins has a LOT of players that need to be cut/traded/upgraded to go from a 4-3 to a 3-4). Rob is a better DC than Gregg Williams, IMO, so if he's given the chance to make the full transition (and not fired prematurely like he was in Dallas), they'll have a shot at a competitive defense.
Also, Rob "The Wolfman" Ryan in New Orleans year-round? Sweet baby jesus will that lead to some funny fan photos surfacing on the internet.

I thought about including Justin Smith but didn't since he only missed (I think?) two full games. But yeah, clearly he wasn't 100% effective after that.
Still though, San Francisco's starters missed a total of EIGHT games throughout a 16 game regular season. That's just absurd. For comparison, Packers starters missed 83 games. Maybe the 49ers have more well-conditioned athletes and a better staff, but I'd be willing to be just about anything they don't have such a healthy season again next year. It's just not realistic to expect IMO.

I really don't get how that guy KEEPS landing DC jobs. He was in Cleveland for the Mangini years (as in both of them), what a complete gas bag. We didn't have the players, but we were out schemed every game. His go to answer is the blitz, and generally an ill-conceived one at that. I don't know if it's the hair, arrogance, or world champion "press conferencer", but all the guy does, year after year, is run out bottom third defenses. Just don't get it. NOLA could have done so much better.

I realize you aren't going to like the guy, but I have to disagree here.
Ryan is a very visible coach, and thus a very easy scapegoat because of his abrasive style with the media.
In his first year with the Browns, they were (with what you admitted was an under-manned unit) ranked 21st/31st in pts/yards on defense. The next year they went 13/22.
In Dallas he took over the 31st worst defense in the league in 2010 and made it 16th in 2011. That's taking the worst defense and making it average with minimal upgrades.
This year he had significant upgrades at CB, but the team lost it's centerpiece (people act like Jay Ratliff is a scrub for some reason, he's an elite DL and that injury killed the defense), not to mention losing Sean Lee, their only above-average presence on the inside.
In Oakland he built a defense that was 3rd in yards allowed in 2006 (which means it was one of the top defenses in football, despite an offense that scored TEN points a game...yes, you read that correctly).
My point with Rob has been and will continue to be.....when he gets to play for a non-awful squad what will happen? He had a defense set up coming into this year that was ready to rock, and then it got hurt.
In Oakland he had Jamarcus Russell and Josh McCown and ANDREW WALTER, among others (those were the starters, meaning the best QBs the team had while Rob was there....I'd take the Buttfumbler over those guys).
In Cleveland he had...well...nothing.
In Dallas they needed a scapegoat (like every year) and Rob got the ax.
He's a very good defensive coach, he's improved defenses everywhere he went, but because he doesn't take a "hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-ly SH*T" bad defense into a top-10 unit overnight, he's a "blowhard."
I guess I defend Rob because I am a defensive guy (played defense, coached LBs and defense for a few years after college) and people are always harder on defensive guys IMO.
NOLA's defense was insultingly bad this year (no offense, jakicker). They gave up OVER 50 yards more than the 2nd worst defense. Rob is going to need massive turnover on the roster, but his defense will not be close to that bad next year even if he's using lesser players. His system and scheme is solid (it's not as good as Rex's, but it's still good) and he knows how to extract the most talent from sub-par players if he's forced to.
He has holes in his game, but so does everyone, and for the first time in his career of calling defenses he now has a QB who can win him any game over the course of the season.
Romo/MCCoy/Oakland's Toxic Waste Dump vs. Drew Brees.
