It's people like you that make other football fans hate the Jets. You're just delusional if you think this team (mainly this offense) is anything better than mediocre.
And yes I do think this team should be good now if the coach and front office is constantly claiming them to be the best team ever or whatever.
Chaz Schillens and Jeremy Kerley are not the saving graces of this team and neither will amount to much more than they currently are.
Would I love to be wrong? Absolutely but 15 years of being a Jets fan just makes me a pessimist I guess.
Serious question even though we've been bickering at each other: Would you be okay with keeping Mark Sanchez as the long term starter? It seems in your arguments you're anti-Sanchez/pro-receivers whereas I am the opposite. I would appreciate your opinion on this even though I probably will disagree.
Putting this in a spoiler tab so people aren't forced to read this dumb argument:
Yes, it's logical, realistic, fact-dependent Jets fans who make the world hate us, it's definitely not the woe-is-me, self-hating, whiney annoying Jets fans.
A wise man once said you are what your record says you are. The Jets record says they're slightly above-average. If they come into the Pats game at 3-3, that's a solid 6-game stretch considering the slate the team has. You say they're mediorcre-at-best, I say they're mediocre-at-worst.
Any Jets fan who bases their expectations off of Rex's hyperbole is an idiot, no offense. You realized how ridiculous it is to say "well, they told me they were good, so they better be good." The new Nets owner says he expects a title in 3 years, does that mean Nets fans should demand he sells if it doesn't happen? No. Should that statement dictate that Nets fans expect the team is really, really good this year? No. Don't blame the coach or front office because you can't form your own expectations.
Jeremy Kerley is 23 years old and amongst the league leaders for slot receivers. And you know, the whole "young players get better over time" thing lends one to believe, hey the Jets might've found their new Wayne Chrebet. But you're right, let's biznatch and moan and say what a 23 year old WR is or isn't based on 3 games where he played OVERWHELMINGLY WELL.
And you do realize that aside from Super Bowl III, you are currently residing in the winningest era of Jets football, right? The team has never gone 4 seasons without a losing record, the team has currently sports its winningest coach and winningest GM, in the past 3 seasons it has equaled it's total AFC Title appearances from the previous 40, and since Woody bought out cheap-ass Leon Hess, the team has had it's best decade in the team's history. So, stop b*tching, for the love of God. How old are you? 21? 22? Talk to a life-long Browns fan (sorry, Mike) if you want to know real misery.
And believe it or not you're wrong, I fully support Sanchez. His receivers are dropping passes that is not helping the cause, but he doesn't help it either with his horrific overthrows. He has to prove this year he's a legit franchise QB or I will want the team to look elsewhere. I realize he has a lot of young players who are inconsistent, and he's missing Keller, but Sanchez is also way too inconsistent. He played one of his 3 best games ever in Week 1, then the WRs let him down in Week 2, and he let his receivers down on Sunday. God forbid they get everything clicking again like they did in Week 1.
I realize the Revis news is disheartening, but you're really way too pessimistic. Cromartie would be the #1 on all but 5-10 teams, Wilson would start on many of those same teams as the #2. The FO you are criticizing had the foresight to know an injury to Revis would cripple the team unless they had players to step in and prevent a tremendous dropoff in play. Cro is inconsistent, but when he's playing well there isn't a better CB besides Revis. I say we wait until Sunday's game (which I'll be attending in person) before deeming the season over. If they win or lose by a score or less, game on. If they go and get the doors blown off by 30 points at home? See ya in 2013.
This is the last thing I'll say on this because I know it has to be annoying to a lot of people.
You're taking what I said about Rex way too literally. I'm not an idiot, I obviously know that just because the coach says they're good doesn't mean they automatically will be so don't insult my intelligence. The problem I had with Rex's "best team ever" comment was that it seemed to me him and the FO were completely satisfied with this team, when I thought it was still an incomplete team and needed a few more pieces.
I fully agree with what you said about Cro and Wilson, in fact I actually just wrote a pretty in depth piece on another website saying how I don't think Revis being out is a death sentence to the defense since they have Cro and Wilson, among others.
We'll see what the future holds. I obviously am not as big on Kerley (as a WR, not PR) as you are. I don't think Schillens will make much, if any, of an impact. The O-line does look better, Keller should be around and consistent for a while, and Stephen Hill, while looking like a true rookie the past two games has great potential considering he's enormous and fast as all hell. One of the keys, as you mentioned, is Sanchez's consistency but the receivers do need to help him out. We also need a running game, which let's be honest, is absolute garbage right now. I'll say this: give Bilal Powell more reps before I completely write off the running game.
I'll also be at the game Sunday and if the Jets can keep it close against the Niners it will certainly give me some hope for this season.
As I said before the season, the Jets will sneak into the playoffs at 8-8 with Tim Tebow leading the way. He will then blow it in the playoffs against a real team like the Ravens. Jets fans will continue to complain.
Um, no. Tebow is horrendous at throwing a football, catching a football, basically doing anything except running the football. The Jets should just make him the #1 HB.

Since I don't have a horse in this race... 1) Green Bay has played SF, Seattle, and da Bears to open the season. SF and Seattle have stellar Defenses, and Chicago is still strong, so don't be so rash to judge their offense.
2) Seattle is incredibly tough at home. I've heard predictions of Seattle going 8-0 at home more than once before the season started.
3) The NFL is trying to move the officials to the same retirement plan they forced down the throats of coaches and scouts 2 years ago. The owners aren't going to back down on this one without a big fight or a series of major issues.
4) Replacement officials are horrible. They were horrible in the preseason, they will be horrible until they are relieved of their duties. It somewhat amazes me it took the media until week 2 to jump on that bandwagon.
5) The NFL doesn't care. They charge us face value for meaningless preseason games. They are businessmen that view the bottom line first and foremost. Hell, some guy from Tennessee just spent a billion on my team, and we've won ten home games in the last ten years if you take 2007 out of the equation.

This. Anybody want to start a professional football league? Bring back the AFL.
and quack the packers. seahawks defense destroyed. not the only team in the NFL that has been affected by bad/no calls.
Not sure you can compare a bad PI call in the 2nd quarter to a missed call that dictated the outcome of the game. They're not the only team impacted by a bad call, they're the only team to have a win turned into a loss by one, though.

There was a chance for that call to be overturned was there not? The booth reviews all TDs and especially in the last 2 min. The booth isnt replacement refs are they? They arent the only team that has been affected. Just because this was a call at the end of the game doesnt mean its any more important than any other blown call. What about the blown calls where people got hurt? Those couldve had the same negative effect on the outcome of the game. Sick of people saying this blown call was more important than the other ones. If anything the helmet to helmet Hayward-Bey call that wasnt called was more important than this touchdown. Dude was knocked out, for a good awhile. Couldve been paralyzed and never played football again.

Close, but no cigar.
The booth was limited in their review because the call on the field was a touchdown. The review needed to inconclusively prove that the Seattle player didn't have possession (which about 80% of people who watched it apparently believe was there, but that's besides the point). The replay officials (who are not replacement, you are correct) were still hindered by replacement officials calling the play incorrectly on the field. Their review was right, since they deemed the replay inconclusive (and it's kind of hard to argue with that), but the scab refs called the play a touchdown, AND THEY DID IT BY MISTAKE!
Did you happen to notice how the TD call was made? Official #1 walks over doing the typical "hands over the head blowing the whistle to end the play" thing that all refs do on every play. Official #2 walked over and thought Official #1 was calling it a TD, so Official #2 herp derped and called a TD. Official #1 gave him a "...wtf?" look, then did the same.
Just because this was a call at the end of the game doesnt mean its
Jesus-Christ-on-a-crutch, yes it does! It literally decided the outcome of a game. That play matters more than any other play in the game. I played football for over a decade, and the company line that "every play is as important as the next" is horsesh*t. That play decided the outcome of a regular season NFL game. It was called horribly and is the reason a team lost. If Green Bay misses the playoffs by a game, you think that play doesn't matter still?
And you're wrong about the DHB hit. That hit happens with or without a call, DHB is still layed up in a hospital bed and he's still seeing stars. The missed call was embarrassing, absolutely, but it didn't change the game. DHB was hurt with or without a penalty. The Packers lost because of a non-call (on Tate) and a TD call (that was a mistake).
I have no dog in this fight, I couldn't care less about the NFC, but to act like that play was just another play that the scab refs missed is just flat out wrong.

The play was horribly called, and awfully handled, no doubt. The way the Packers are carrying on about it though is so stupid. Give me a break. The point is, they aren't the only team dealing with horrible officiating this season, and they aren't the first team in the history of the nfl to lose a game because of a bad call. Get over it, and move on.

Just because I think you're precious when you get fired up...
A case could be made that the defensive player was more willing to go for that hit because of the loose nature of some of the replacement refs in the games. For evidence of this, look at the amount of pushing and shoving that has been going on consistently during games this year so far. Penalty flags have been few and far between on these mini-brawls. Some (or most) players will do everything that they can get away with. You allow some shenanigans and eventually someone will take it upon themselves to go one step further and get rough with a hit because the potential of negative consequences has gone down.

I know, and I've acknowledged that every team is dealing with these awful calls, to the point it mostly evens out.
The reason that this game sticks out is because a) it is absolutely obvious that the refs crumbled under the pressure of the most rabid fan base in the league, and b) there were a string of 3 horrific calls, inexcusable calls, that led to that game being taken away from GB. So, while most teams have a back-and-forth with the bad calls, it was piling up against GB even before that final drive....then the final drive happened.
I'm not delusional, I know that the refs are so bad that teams are able to gameplan towards the bad calls they know they can get (teams are literally chucking passes they know receivers won't catch just to get a PI called), but this game was easily the worst. The calls weren't just bad, they defined the outcome of an NFL game, I can't agree that the way the last play was officiated is just another play stacked up with the other bad calls. If you want to say that about the roughing the passer, or the PI (that should've been called on Sidney Rice)? Sure. But not the last play, the refs made a quick call to run away and get out of the situation, and it handcuffed the repay official and compromised the outcome of a game.
Let's put it this way, if those were real refs every person in the country would be asking if they had money on the game.
And Dave, I hate/you.
Edit: Sorry, hit 'Enter' too quickly. I've actually made that argument (that the scab refs enable the dirty/physical hits), but that's stretching it, even for me. You'd have to look at them on a case-by-case basis and I'm not sure you can really get into the heads of a player and determine their intent.
Pats will make the playoffs. Win the East. I hope they win it all. I think there's still potential for more than this year. But every time we play the Giants we're quacked. And there's Baltimore that can't be taken for granted.
Edit: and if the rumors of the refs lockout ending are true, looks like I don't need to plan that boycott for Week 5. Maybe the owners aren't as ignorant as we thought. I figured it would have taken much more damage (mostly monetary) to end this.

Thats how most of the blown calls are made. I understand that because that was the last play of the game it had an immediate result on the game but every blown call in one way or another effects the outcome of the game. A blown roughing the kicker call can also have an effect on the outcome and it could happen in the fist quarter
And you're wrong about the DHB hit. That hit happens with or without a call, DHB is still layed up in a hospital bed and he's still seeing stars. The missed call was embarrassing, absolutely, but it didn't change the game.
Hit happens with or without the call, but the penalties, monetary loss, and fear of future repercussions dont happen without the call

I understand this logic, and it's not unreasonable, but plays matter more in certain situations. If a roughing the punter call was incorrectly given while a punter is inside own endzone, but the team still ends up punting despite the automatic first down, that bad call didn't hurt the opponent. But a missed call resulting in 6 points with time expiring and a call being made on the field that in effect makes it impossible for the call to be overturned? That doesn't just hurt the opponent, it kills them, in a sense.
Hit happens with or without the call, but the penalties, monetary loss, and fear of future repercussions dont happen without the call.
I'm afriad this isn't true. Players have been fined many times without drawing a penalty flag. That hit will absolutely draw a fine, hell Laron Landry got fined for a hit and he didn't even make contact with the guys head! To put it another way, certain penalties dictate that fines are issued, but not all fines have to have a penalty called in order to be issued....if that makes sense.

The NFL is a brand, so they're much more than just dollars and cents. Your brand is only as good as it's perceived, and the NFL was being perceived as a joke league that doesn't care about the quality of play. While the lagging monetary impact hadn't yet reached the owners (at least not all, crappy teams are already no-showing games), they knew it was coming.

Legitimate LOL at people who don't think Packers didn't lose that game DIRECTLY because of the refs.
It doesn't matter that GB's offense was horrible the first half. It doesn't matter Seattle's defense dominated the first half. At most, Seattle should've had 7 points. And that's debatable. Once again, a very obvious holding call against Clay Matthews wasn't called on a play that allowed Wilson to convert a 3rd down on a drive that lead to Golden Tate's touchdown. It would've made it something like 3rd and 14, and given Seattle's passing attack this year, I think it's safe to say there's a better chance it wouldn't have been converted than it would.
And besides, it doesn't f*cking matter if the Packers didn't play well. I don't give a sh*t if they dominated for 60 minutes or got outplayed for 60 minutes, if the referees hand a team a win it's an absolute joke. I would've thought even Bears, Lions, and Falcons fans could admit to that.
You can't say that there is one single reason a team lost a game that had 100 or so plays in it. Yeah, the Packers got screwed on that play, but you also were over whelmed by Seattle's D and that had a much larger part to do with it. My beef is how the media and Packer fans are crying about it. It had been turned into a way bigger deal than it is.
I agree that the refs should get what they are asking for, but all this talk about ”ruining the integrity of the game.” Is complete nonsense. I love how they said the same exact thing when the real officials were cracking down on late/violent hits. It's not a big deal. You know that the replacement officials are going to be inconsistent with their calls, that just has to be worked into the strategy of your game plan until this situation gets settled.

Honestly, I'm just sick of hearing about that one single call whenever I watch ESPN or listen to ESPN radio. I agree it determined the outcome of the game but so does every bad/no call. I don't understand how surprised/outraged people are since this season (and this game..on both sides) has been full of them. It's week 3, not a playoff game.
and that is definitely not the worst call of all time as I have heard it referred to multiple times.
There is nothing better than watching a show that features children and professional athletes swallowing and splashing an 8 year old's wet dream ejaculations all over their faces.
