I know he made Thriller and he's known the world over. But I made pop a weak genre. With Madonna being the only other entry. I just think it's less substantial then some of the other genres.
10.Velvet Underground (you must not like em, gave em a shitty, shitty match up)
Pink Floyd and Velvet Underground were both experimental rock bands so I thought it to be a good matchup in the first round. Just like how I thought Elvis vs Chuck Berry would be a good matchup of 50's rock icons.

I dunno, why are you an idiot? But seriously, if there's certain bands you have beef with. Address them and I will clearly tell you my reasoning.
Yup, definitely an idiot for questioning taste.
I don't know, let's go with Earth Wind & Fire and Journey being seeded above Chuck Berry. Let alone being considered "All-Time Greats."
The first part was meant to be a joke. You're not an idiot for questioning my taste. But when you phrase the question, why are there shitty bands in my bracket? How do you expect a serious, intelligent response.
Chuck Berry when it comes to influence isn't above EWF or Journey. I just wanted to create a first round mathcup between Elvis and Chuck. It's a seed I decided to adjust.
Why Is EWF in? They (along with Wonder and Gaye) really were key in transitioning the Motown sound of the 50's and 60's through the 70's and early 80's. They also were great multi-instrumentalists. They have bass, guitar, drum, keyboards, horns, even this instrument called a Kalimba. They fused multiple genres like soul, r&b,pop, disco, funk, and jazz (their horned section is great) That and according to Wiki, they have had 17 Grammy noms, and induction into the Rock and Roll HOF, and Miles Davis called them his favorite band ever. Not too shabby
Journey is in because of the arena rock bands of the 70s (Kansas, Boston, Styx, Foreigner) I believe Journey to be the top of that list. That and their recent resurgence has made them more popular than ever. "Don't Stop Believin" is played as much as "Stairway to Heaven" nowadays.

Do you think I actually wanted to use the word "poopy"? Do you think people on this board regularly want to use the words "quack" and "corn" and "summer's breeze"?
As far as the bands are concerned, I threw up in my mouth a little when you included Earth Wind and Fire in a category with Marvin Gaye. No one cares (or should care, I guess) about Grammy nominations. Barbra Streisand has 41 Grammy nominations. Is she in one of the other regions? And as far as the HOF, they're now in the illustrious company of Madonna and Neil Diamond. The only thing you listed about them that has anything to do with the quality of their music is that Miles Davis liked them, and if that is our inclusion criteria cocaine should probably be seeds 1 through 5.
I'm not even going to bother typing anything out in response to Journey. Jesus man, it's Journey.
Second half of first round matchups are up. Voting ends Sunday 11PM Eastern/10PM Central.

Short easy answer: Cash is a legend and better. I enjoy Garth more, personally. Which I thought was how we were voting on this, who we personally enjoyed more. I like a lot of Cash stuff and can admit he is better and more influential. If that is how we are voting, Then I would easily say Cash. If it is who I personally enjoy more, then I say Garth.

I'm surprised to see The Band was not included. I think they were more influential than a few of the other acts. Certainly more so than Journey or maybe even CSN without Y. But, I'm sure everyone could come up with at least one band they think was missed.

Everyone can vote how they want. I've been voting on what I like more. Except for Metallica and The Beach Boys, I like Metallica more but the excitement of finally seeing Beach Boys with the original lineup put it over the top.

Narrowing the list down was extremely difficult and there's bound to be some misses. I'm all ears for a selection committee for the next one. I'll still defend Journey. Someone has got to represent arena rock and those guys are it. Besides, how can anyone not like "Wheel in the Sky"?
There are plenty of tough choices in this round. Buddy Guy vs Sinatra. Gaye vs. Hendrix. Also, Orbison vs Joplin (both had incredible voices)
