The Orbital vs. Death Grips vs. Trust vs. Thomas Dolby vs. Hecker & Lopatin block That's just....why? That block clearly needs reworking. And the days need to start at 6.
Are there more acts per day this year than in the last two? Since it's only two days and this isn't a small lineup to begin with, it doesn't make sense why they would make the fest-days shorter.
Question: Are tickets usually hard tickets or wristbands? I'm primarily intersted in Primus, while I have friends primarily interested in Nas and GZA and since they're playing at different times, my fiends and I were thinking on pitching in on a one day ticket then switching off the ticket for the events we want to see but it they're wristbands, I don't think that would work. Any help would be great! Thanks
You're given hard tickets and have to exchange them for wristbands. If that makes sense.

Yeah didn't they start at like 5:30 last year? I remember Matthew Dear being much earlier.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
To answer my own question, it looks like there were 23(?) acts on Friday in '11, and 19 this year... also, the real concerts started at 5:30 and ended at 2:30, via 2011's schedule.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I will be skipping most (possibly all) of Squarepusher for Primus 3D. I've never seen Squarepusher, but the new album is probably my least favorite thing he's done, and that's ALL he plays. I will try to run up to TWA for the last 15 minutes of his set to catch the solo bass improv, though.
Has anybody seen Death Grips before? They have an hour, but I would have pegged them as a 40 minutes and out kind of band. I will be at their set for the duration, but it would be nice to catch nearly an hour of Orbital.
Friday late night is complicated. GZA is my favorite of the 4 options, and likely what the rest of my crew will want to see, but it would be cool to bounce back and forth between EITS and Hawtin.
i haven't actually tried to do it, but it seems like it would not really be easy to go back and forth between the civic center/thomas wolfe and orange peel. for example if i attempted to go to killer mike between pantha and nas. it would take 10-15 min to walk the orange peel, just to see the last 15 min of killer mike. then head back to see nas and miss the first few minutes of his set. i don't think i'll be doing any of that. so i will just stay in the civic center/thomas wolfe on fri.

I timed it last year, and I could get to OP in 7-8 minutes. I was walking fast, though. You're still probably making the right decision, that's a lot of walking for a partial set.
That whole block on Friday is frustrating. Why leave a full hour between Killer Mike and El-P? I guess so people can catch Nas in between, but it still seems like a bad idea to leave an hour gap at your most distant venue.

i just noticed the hour gaps. i may try to make that trek for bmsr, between primus and eits. but other than that i think it would be harder than people think to run and around between those venues.
Pantha Du Prince (full) > Morton Subotnick (full) > El-P (first half hour or so) > Squarepusher (full) > Blondes (last bit possible) > Richie Hawtin (maybe switch back and forth between EITS and this)
This is liable to change by this evening... it's possible I may catch less of El-P, maybe a tiny bit of Primus, and I'm not counting on being able to catch any of Killer Mike. By the looks of the schedule and the number of "likes" per artist on the Moogfest site, Squarepusher could end up being the most attended show of the day, so getting in line early may be a good idea. The new album may not be near his best, but I need to see Squarepusher... still my top priority.
OMG Saturday makes me want to cry. Literally. Every artist I wanted to see at this festival conflicts. ESPECIALLY Orbital vs. Trust vs. Dolby vs. Disclosure vs. Death Grips. GOD DAMN THATS MY TOP 5 RIGHT THERE!

Here's my best guess:
Friday: Pantha (full) > Nas (full) > Primus 3D (full) > hopefully last 15 of Squarepusher > Ahleuchatistas > GZA (full)
Saturday: Divine Fits (full) > Magnetic Fields (most) > last half of Cold Cave > Death Grips (full) > hopefully 45+ of Orbital > Four Tet (full) > last half of Prefuse 73 on the way back to the hotel
1991: Lollapalooza | Winnipeg Folk Festival 2007: Pitchfork 2013: Maryland Deathfest 2015: Big Ears | Maryland Deathfest | RockTember 2016 - 2019: Big Ears | Psycho Las Vegas 2019: RockTember 2022: Big Ears | Cruel World 2023: Big Ears 2024: Kraftwerk Residency @ Walt Disney Concert Hall | RockTember

^ I would do almost exactly this There's no way you can get 45min of Orbital and see all of Death Grips...watch the first half of Death Grips then truck it to the Arena for last half of Orbital. And also, if I were going to moog, I'd probably miss Primus for Squarepusher since I'm doing the Primus Halloween show (which will be a much longer set than a gotdamn hour and a half).
