This is going to be THE set to see. They are playing all Sly Stone music with Bernie-effing-Worrell on the keys and Vernon Reid on guitar. If you don't know who Bernie Worrell is, then you haven't been living up to your own potential. This the face-melting set of the year.
With their type of set-up, I wouldn't be surprised to see them play before The Word in a LN tent. If that's the case, I'll be in that tent all night. By the looks of some of the videos, they have John Medeski performing with them. It would be awesome to see Medeski perform three or more times in a weekend.

Uh, even more important is that Bill Laswell could possibly be back. Praxis and Material in 2004 were some of the greatest gets in the history of Bonnaroo.

Okay, I am somewhat disappoint. Just found out it's not going to be Vernon or Bill, though the lineup for this show still looks good:
Steven Bernstein - trumpet Peter Apfelbaum - tenor saxophone Chris Speed - clarinet Erik Lawrence - baritone saxophone Curtis Fowlkes - trombone Charlie Burnham - violin Matt Munisteri - guitar Bernie Worrell - organ Ben Allison - bass Ben Perowsky - drums Eric Mingus - vocals Sandra St. Victor - vocals
Yeah, this is a can't miss set. For those who don't know, Steven Bernstein leads the horn section at Levon Helm's rambles, as well as the legendary NYC jazz group Sex Mob. Hearing these guys take on the Sly Stone catalog will be a very special experience.

It makes me feel so good when I see people on the board talking about important musicians. I feel like younger people (ages 16-25) just don't know and don't care about musicians like Bernie. Also I feel kinda bad for the people who don't see artist like this when they come to bonnaroo. These are legendary artist and should not be missed.
Even though I was hoping P Funk would play Bonnaroo this year... but Stephen Bernstein MTO and The Word are gonna be two of the funkiest shows that weekend!!
Anyone think Stephen Berstein will be late night? I doubt it..... but we can always hope!

Bonnaroo has always been for people who have real music tastes. Even now when its turned more toward commercial/popular acts. I rarely ever go to Roo for the headliners. This is number 5 for me and I always look for the crazy shiz on the undercard. Bonnaroo always knows how to pull me in.
