Let's speculate. Are people thinking he might get a set like Chris Rock's back in '08 (on What before a headliner)? Or do you think he's more likely to do what Conan did in '10 (do a couple of Comedy Tent shows and then just kind of hang out/be awesome for the rest of the weekend)? Either way, I'm psyched to see his name on the actual lineup and not just in the comedy portion.
I really hope he plays a stage, as he destroyed in 2010 and seems to genuinely love Bonnaroo and is becoming a regular. When he came out as Randy he said the one place to never fuck was in a porta. Please adhere to his advice. His show was one of the best standup sets I've ever seen. The girl I went with really disliked him going in, then had to admit afterward that he was hilarious.
I wasn't there for Chris Rock and missed Conan on What, but it seems like a great comedian up there would be really good to set the mood for a crowd. Although I have to imagine that's really intimidating for a comic to do. Maybe we could see him some inbetween acts? His interview on the WTF podcast was really good: wtfpod.libsyn.com/episode-127-aziz-ansari

Honestly I'd like a combination of Conan and Chris Rock. I'm not totally sure that he'll do an hour on the What stage but the fact that he's on the initial lineup definitely speaks volumes. I think at the very least he'll be the MC for the What stage. Conan didn't want to MC the whole time and didn't expect it but Aziz loves Roo and knows what it's all about so maybe they gave him that job this year.

In my entire life, I've never laughed as much as I did when I saw one of Aziz's sets in the Comedy Tent in 2010. Just the funniest sh*t I've ever heard. I hope that material comes out on a CD or DVD soon.
At one point, he started f***ing with the woman who was interpreting his set into sign language, making her say ridiculous sh*t in sign language...anyone see that?

I don't know, I could see Aziz performing in the hour between Bon Iver and Radiohead since he doesn't need anything on stage while they set up for Radiohead, but I can't see him having a prime-time hour by himself on What. I definitely think he could be a What Stage MC, though.

Hahahahah. I was there at the Sunday show. He busted out laughing and was like "I'm sorry, I'm sorry guys, I just need to see her sign language for "And he put his d!ck on her shoulder" one more time. He did that like 3 times.

Yeah, I agree. What I'm saying is something like this:
Bon Iver (6:30-8) Aziz (8:15-9:15) Radiohead (9:30-12)
Or something like that between, say, Feist and Bon Iver. Probably wouldn't work, but just trying to think outside the box. It's not like he'd need anything up on stage while he did standup, so they could probably set up for Radiohead while he performed. I agree, though, he's not as big Conan or Chris Rock so I couldn't see them setting aside 2 What Stage hours for him (when you include "setup" time).
I don't know if I see him doing a mainstage show, though. His standup shows are in relatively small to average size theaters. Stand-up is a tough thing to do in front of a gigantic crowd. It's usually best in a smaller, more intimate setting. So I don't know if he'd be into doing his routine in front of a huge crowd. If I had to guess right now, I'd guess he'll be doing comedy tent shows and then doing ten to fifteen minutes on the mainstage in between acts. A little longer than what he did for The Black Keys last year, but still kind of the same schtick.

The fact that he's listed so high on the lineup makes me think otherwise. Aziz loves bonnaroo and bonnaroo loves aziz. With his new tour in the works it seems pretty likely that he'd have a comedy set on the what between acts. He's really taking off these days with the success of Parks and Recreation and his roles in films. He's really getting out there. If he's booking small venues now I don't think it'll be long before he's selling out large venues like Chris Rock.
If they stick him in the comedy tent, so many fans would be disappointed. Putting him on the initial lineup is just a tease at that point.
There is a reason he's on the initial lineup and no other comedians are. To me it's saying one of two things: He'll do a stand up set on the main stage (like Chris Rock) or he'll just emcee and introduce acts (like Conan O'Brien).
I'm leaning towards just introducing acts but i'd welcome a main stage set.
I hope he's main stage like Chris Rock was. I've never seen the lines/crowds stop moving like they did when he was on stage. He crushed it, and EVERYONE was laughing and having a great time. I think Aziz can handle it, he's hilarious. Check out his quick Bonnaroo mention if you haven't seen it already.
I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.
