I think that's a fair assessment. I think it's between The Roots, and Ludacris. I know Ludacris is billed 20th on the lineup, but if you look at the Bonnaroo "Most Liked" artists, Ludacris is number 9. I dunno, we'll see.
In my opinion, Avett Brothers are more of a Pre-Headliner daytime act. And Foster The People don't have enough material. And The Word, well, just wouldn't draw a big enough crowd to warrant a Which Stage set.
In a perfect world. we'd get Umphrey's, but that's not happening, haha.
Skrillex seems to be a lock for Saturday, but I'm still hung up on the Friday LN Which Stage.
I had been hoping for Umphrey's, but they look like a lock for Saturday. I'm not a super fan but some variety would have been nice.
According to Bonnaroo.com the 20 most popular remaining bands on Friday or unknown are (in this order). I bolded the ones that I think could play LN Which.
Foster the People The Roots The Avett Brothers Ludacris Feist Aziz The Kooks Sam Bush (my guess) Two Door Cinema City and Color Black Star Major Lazer Mac Miller Fitz and the Tantrums St Vincent Grouplove Fly Low Tune Yards The Word (I'm surprised they have so many votes)
I'd prefer to see the Roots in HL type situation Saturday to cut down on conflicts (MMJ 2011 instead of 2008), and since RHCP is only doing around 90 minute sets, I'd bet this happens.
My gut feeling on the likely Friday LN Which 1. Luda 2. The Word 3. Major Lazer
im sorry but theres NO WAY your right.
black star, major lazer and fly lo have NO SHOT at being on which. from that list you gave, these are the only ones who have any chance whatsoever, and in this order of probability.
the roots ludacris foster the people avett brothers
the word
Why is there NO WAY I'm right? If The Word is a possibility why not three bands who are at least arguably more popular?
FlyLo is a long shot, but if they announce wsg Thom Yorke it'll be packed. Not likely but certainly possible.
Major Lazer seems like a hiding in plain site choice. They won't get it over Luda or the Roots, but both those bands could be day sets easy.
Actually I would love to see Major Lazer happen on Which. Not that it's likely to put up two electronic acts on the Which stage, so the nod does go to The Roots then Luda, but I'm sure Major Lazer could hold down a Which Stage. The show is just such high energy, they have pretty solid billing, and I can dream. It would be the biggest party show of the festival.

If the Roots or Luda are on Which, Major Lazer is the CLEAR #2 Friday LN act. If both those guys play day sets or Saturday, Major Lazer almost has to play the Which.

id bet my bonnaroo ticket that major lazer is nowhere near the which stage LN. and yes, i think foster and the word are long shots for which LN..but out of the list you posted they are def top 5 possibilities

I would put my money on a Roots or Roots>Black Star Friday Which LN. Although if I had my preference, I would take The Word>North Mississippi Allstars>Robert Randolph and the Family LN.
I don't know how much this sways the LN scheduling but I have a couple contacts at Moment Factory and I know they are designing the lighting/multimedia production for Foster The People's summer tour.
If you're unfamiliar with Moment Factory, they most recently designed NIN's Lights In The Sky Tour, Celine Dion's Vegas show, and Madonna's upcoming MDNA tour.
If FTP are touring with an impressive production, I have a feeling we'll see them LN on the Which Stage.
it's going to be The Roots, Foster the People, or The Avett Brothers. with Ludacris being a dark horse.
no one else has a big enough draw to go against all the other tent shows that will be going on.
Major Lazer has less than half as many +adds on the lineup page as The Roots, The Avetts, or FtP.
It'll probably be The Roots for reasons I've already mentioned. With the exception of NIN and Lil Wayne, most whichstage LNs are roo veterans (Primus, Trey, The Flaming Lips, String Cheese, MMJ, Phil and Friends). The Roots are known for long shows (3 hours). They have lots of potential for collaborations. They have a wide appeal to a diverse crowd, And they have so much energy to their shows. They are just the most obvious choice out of the remaining bands that could fill such a coveted slot.
FtP doesn't have enough material-having only been on the scene for a year, haven't really done anything to prove they deserve a coveted spot like the LN which. The Avetts just aren't right for a LN stage act (has there ever been a LN grassy-folk-country?), and Luda is billed too low.

Honestly the idea of a FTP latenight is growing on me. It's a bit of a bad fit given their thin catalog, but there's really no way to arrange the sub-headliners without someone being a little out of place. If FTP plans Which LN, the Fri-Sat What Which would go something like:
What: Ludacris Rod y Gab (630-8) Radiohead (9-12)
Which: Avett FTP LN
Saturday: Roots (8-10) RHCP (11-12:30)
Which Dispatch Skrillex LN
Ludacris and FTP could swap places, but I really don't know who else would be a good fit to open for RHCP.
FTP would not play Which LN. If they were a little smaller they could do a LN tent but they just would not fit on a LN Which doing one album of material, imo.

I don't think that matters, they're playing 2 sold nights at the Gibson Amp in LA, Red Rocks, and arena shows all over the US this summer. They've been playing their whole record plus 3-5 unreleased tracks and a cover or two according to setlist.fm

I wasn't at the show so I don't know if he went longer than his scheduled time but last year Lil' Wayne had the Which LN from 1:30-3:00.
FTP could fill a slot that big. Not that I'd want them to. To me the Which stage LN should be an extremely memorable show. Long sets from MMJ and Flaming Lips and Phil & Friends and more have made those late nights special. FTP could get the slot but it'd be disappointing IMO.
Don't know if this has been mentioned here or if it will make any difference but let us not forget Medeski will play with The Word & Spectrum Road. So if The Word plays LN Friday Night there is a possibility Spectrum Road will play LN Saturday - especially if The Word plays really late Friday. Medeski's gotta get some sleep at some point doesn't he? Just a thought.
Pretty pumped for late nights considering i kind of was a zombie my first year and didn't get to experience it as much as i wanted. I see you have Childish Gambino as a late night, personally i hope this happens.
That Gambino>SBTRKT would probably make my mind explode.
Most of what i've seen predicted here has LN heavy metal in the Other tent for Saturday night. I'm thinking the world music stage on Saturday, will likely happen in the Other tent. If it is, then it would be unlikely that we would see heavy metal on that stage for LN, no? I'm still thinking Spectrum Road in the Other tent LN. Maybe just a two hour Spectrum Road set & that's all for LN in the Other on Saturday. Thoughts?
Probably been discussed, but is there any chance that Bon Iver's Sunday is actually a LN Saturday?? Such a cluster on Sunday and his show would be great as a Which or What LN.

Pretty surprised the late night acts haven't been announced yet! According to the important bonnaroo dates thread, the past two years the late night acts were announced on April 14th and 22nd or thereabouts. Assuming that they're not going to make the announcement over this weekend, that likely pushes the official word on late night acts into May!
Think there's anything to read into this? Maybe more stage artists to announce first? Maybe the schedule's still jostling around in big ways? Or maybe they're going to make us wait untill the full schedule drop in late May (god I hope not!)
Either way, here's hoping for the Roots one of the nights, plus a nice long Umphrey's slot--hopefully not in conflict!
