Why do I take issue? Because I hate his music. I didn't say I hold it against someone for liking him (although in a way I kind of do but just in a way where I won't ever take their musical opinion ever), or that you're not allowed to like him. I just don't quite understand/agree with him being so popular. I don't understand how someone could listen to what is basically, to my ears, random sounds thrown together in a rhythmic fashion and not only like it, but like it enough to shell out $60+ to see him stand on a stage and pretend to DJ.
ok, thats all i was pointing out. wanted to make sure you had issue because you personally dont like his music, not because you think he has no talent.
Nah he's a talented producer. He gets fat synth sounds and clean mixes, although I'm still not 100% convinced he is responsible for his synth sounds and mixing.
I personally find his music abrasive sounding, but I've honestly only heard three of his songs because the ones I have heard haven't appealed to me. At all. My wife's a big fan, though, which I have a hard time understanding. She's 43 and an attorney and grew up listening to The Cure and The Smiths. Since we're going to Ultra in a few weeks, I have a sneaking suspicion I'm going to have to listen to some of Skrillex in a live setting. I will report back - if I don't take a walk into the darkened ocean afterward. ...
Thank you Alberto. However I'm extremely excited for a lot of other acts. The only acts I actually dislike are probably Skrillex and Mac Miller. Not a huge fan of Dispatch either. Other than that, though, I am way stoked on this years lineup.

I'm just confused why everyone's on his dick when to me it sounds like he rehashed a bunch of ideas people used years ago yet somehow no one listened to it until now
Simple as this: Don't like him? Don't go to his set!
And really, simply because a person enjoys Skrillex, you will never take musical advice from them? A little extreme. There are bands my best friend listens to that I don't find enjoyable, but I still will be making the journey to 'Roo with again this year, and have found some other incredible bands through him.
People are almost turning this into a cpompetition. EVERYONE has different musical tastes, just because you don't like someone else's view doesn't mean YOURS is right. Let's all just enjoy the week we have, surrounded by all the others that made the journey, to be surrounded by TALENTED acts. Life's too short
and BTW, yes, I will be checking him out, but he is not in my top 10

Some of my friends who's taste in music are almost identical to mine love Skrillex. I don't get it but whatever. I probably will even still end up at his set because it's party music. Not sure why anyone would listen to it outside of that environment however

For what it's worth, I've always been in the camp that says bring on Skriillex because he will draw a ton of people away from where I am that night.
as you can see, your personal music tastes don't particular mash well as those who are fans of the one they call Skrillex... In this case, I must say we shall all go to the shows we are excited to see this year, and it will be freakin' awesome. I'll be at some of the sets you picked out, and I will be at other sets where you will not be present. But both of us are going to have a sweet ass time. I'm not a big fan of the Phish Fillet, and yet I do not start threads bashing them, because I understand people have their individual tastes.

my question to you...would you feel the same if this was a Nickelback thread or Justin Beiber thread? And Im not trying to stir the pot it is a genuine question.
This thread is not about hating Skrillex, it is clearly about hating Skrillex as a Late Night Which option.
If it was about hating an act just because they are on the lineup I would have made one about Bassnectar both years, and Neon Trees.
Why do you hate Skrillex as a late night skrillex set then? If its not because you just dont like his music, what else is it?
Cause he DEFINITELY has the fanbase that would deserve a which stage act. If you stuck him in a tent it would be so ridiculously over packed, worse than Bassnectar last year and that was insane.

I think it's more of a "I wish we got a different big name for late night" type of thing. He has the fanbase to get that stage and to command that spot on the lineup (I suppose) but at the same time, as Airline said, it's sad that the same legendary LN slot that's given us 4 hour MMJ sets, an epic Flaming Lips LN and one of NIN's legendary final shows now goes to him. It just seems weird now giving that slot to an "up and coming DJ," even if he does have a huge fanbase.
I understand you like Skrillex, man, but why do you have to quiz every person who says they don't like Skrillex? Do you think you're going to Socratic Method someone into being like "oh yeah, I never thought about it that way, I guess i DO like Skrillex..."

I guess I just find it embarrassing in comparison to every other act that has been in that LN Which spot (in terms of not only how I feel about their music but their longevity, output of material, etc.). Is that not a legitimate reason?
I'm not trying to argue anything about his fanbase, and never have. I predict he will get the LN Which spot, but that doesn't prevent me from being appalled by the idea.

I don't hate Skrittles, I'm not a huge fan though either, he sure isn't filling any space on my iPod. I take his music in very small doses, like you would taste a blue raspberry flavored poison, just enough that doesn't kill me, but enough so I can taste the blue raspberry.
I'm, guessing they will put him up against another electronic act, so I won't be seeing him, but, if he is the only electronic act playing at that moment, I will go, and enjoy.
Unless of course he is up against anyone else I like.
I'm hardly "quizzing every person who says they don't like Skrillex".
Not anymore because we try to avoid the subject but back in the other Skrillex involved threads, I remember you adamantly trying to insist that we didn't actually dislike Skrillex because of his music but because he was popular/he was dubstep/he was in From First to Last/his haircut/whatever, and that if he was some nobody that nobody had ever heard of, we would be all over his dick.
That's really dumb that you think that. Sorry for being so blunt, but I think it's absolutely outrageous to assume that about even one person let alone a huge category of people. I just don't enjoy listening to overblown, obnoxious, atonal noises sloppily thrown together in a jarringly rhythmic fashion. It is just really obnoxious music to me. I guarantee many other people feel that way.
It doesn't matter if you said me or not, it's still dumb to assume that "the majority" of people who don't like skrillex feel that way. They don't, I promise.
You can frame your sentences to make me look like a jerk if you want ("im sorry it upsets you so much that you dont think my opinion is correct and yours is.") but assuming that people hate something just because it is popular is obnoxious and all the clever phrasing in the world can't hide that.
