skrillex was great at hangout. his MCing was a little sloppier then the last time I saw him, but he was definitely full of energy, as was the crowd at 3:15pm. his short set completely wore me out, I ended up missing Kaskade to chill in my friends condo.
I think by "MCing" he means "yelling out nonsensical things about the sick drops in order to hype up the brahs even more."
this is exactly what I mean. when a DJ decides to grab a mic and start yelling about getting pumped or whatever. I pretty much hate this 100% of the time, but have learned to tolerate it.

So after Bamboozle its almost a given that the UMF setup will be the one we get at Roo. I personally hate it. But whatevs. The giant LED screen will be nice.

Gotta agree, that set-up sucks. Even the animations are boring and repetitive. He needs to just use every changing visualizations, screw these dancing robots and crap.
1. I HATE his music. 2. He was pretty awesome at Hangout. 3. I expect something like this at the roo. 4. ^ vs Van Halen tribute, 60,000ish "raging balls", will be fun.

I think we are more likely to get that single large screen rather then all the smaller ones from UMF. Even then though, his animations on screen can be very boring. I remember seeing him on his mothership tour and enjoying the set, but found myself thinking several times. "This guy needs a better animator or something."
God this is going to be such an insane spectacle. Admittedly the rig he's sitting in isn't that great but the lights and screen are pretty impressive. I wish the two big lights on the side of his chamber could have stuff like the image of a six shooter barrel spinning on them, then shoot lasers over the crowd. Those lights look really weak though. It just seems like that rig could be put to more use visually than what I've seen in the videos.
I seriously can't wait for the future when we have electronic bands playing in open air floating ships that will be able to hover over the audience, shooting down lasers like giant netting over the crowd; DJs in transformers like rigs that will walk around, any type of space age shiz like that. The presentation of dance music is going to be insane in fifty years.
"In the darkness hundreds of glowsticks streaked the air like tracer shots in war. Giant inflatables bounced over dozens of light sabers pointed skyward. Stuffed animals impaled on sticks danced above the hot crowds, puppeted by someone just given ecstasy by a friend made seconds before."

I'm hoping we're over the "your stage presentation is more important than your skill as a DJ" stage of things in fifty years, but thats just me.

Eh, they're not, but I just feel like dance music live shows are moving towards the point where its less about the music and more about the ragin' light show brah. I could personally do without all the screens and lasers and such unless it's something really unique. It shouldn't be a standard for a successful DJ to have to drop millions of dollars on absurd lighting rigs, when they can barely DJ, and instead maybe spend some money on some new audio equipment so you can actually do cool things while DJing instead of just pretending that the knobs you are turning are actually mapped to something.
I mean seriously, some of the fake knob turning is getting ridiculous. I caught like 5 minutes of Datsik's coachella set on the stream and the dude was seriously the worst fake knob turner I've ever seen, and I don't know if people are just too intimidated by DJ equipment to realize that those knobs don't do anything, but they seriously don't. If someone is turning knobs and it doesn't sound like anything is changing, it's not because you don't understand how DJ equipment works, it's because NOTHING is changing.

Skrillex is the worst at being a live DJ. I've seen a few videos of him performing and literally does NO mixing live. From what I gathered he has one button for beat repeat and one knob to do EQ sweeps

This thread sounds like a bunch of bitter old men whining about Skrillex. You sure do talk about him a lot for a bunch of folks that hate him so bad. I have no interest in seeing most of the headliners, but I'm not hanging out at their threads whining.

I never understood the "OMG he's totally not mixing live he SUCKS" argument. Do you stand in the crowd in awe of DJs' abilities to turn knobs and push sliders?
