How is anyone excited for the Beach Boys? You guys saw the Grammy's right?
We should always judge how good an act will be based on one performance of a song. It just makes sense.
I know I always do.
I didn't watch the Grammys at all because I know better than that. And I couldn't give a rat's bootie if you thought it was garbage. I will be at that show and have the time of my life.
I will never understand how people who live in Nashville, Knoxville, or anyplace else within a 3-hour radius don't go to this regardless of how great/not great the lineup is. It's such a minimal amount of travel, it blows my mind.
^^ More truth from Juggs, Esq.
My brother and I (both 50-ish) started going down from Nashville in '06, and have been every year since. First year, we went pretty much JUST to see Radiohead -- and ended up seeing probably an additional 25 or 30 great bands we knew comparatively little about. Same story every year, still.
A few years back we moved from G.A. to VIP, and that's made it even more enjoyable. In '10, we started taking our sons (mine now 19; his now 17), so in that way, the torch has been passed.
The heat and sleep deprivation gets rougher as my brother and I get older, and inevitably we'll stop going at some point.
Even if that's the case - don't camp! Nashville is what, an hour from Manchester? 45 minutes? Even if you stay until 4 am watching shows, just don't get too f*cked up, then drive home. You're in bed by 5 a.m., get a nice 6/7 hours of sleep in the a.c., take a shower, and you can be back on the farm by 1 p.m. the following day!
Oh, I agree. Just based on my conversations with locals around here, it's the "grimeyness" of Bonnaroo that seems to turn them off. That said, I think those who really love music hard core and aren't just casual listeners do end up attending. I rarely meet anyone else from Tennessee at Bonnaroo. I'm not sure that a whole lot of locals actually go.
Lots of us locals go.. I'm usually with atleast 20+ from my small city not even a 2,000 population.

I saw it. I didn't think it was nearly as bad as some of you were letting on. That said, I really hope that Beach Boys baseball cap doesn't make an appearance. It makes him look even older.
Anybody else excited to see The Word ( Robert Randolph, NMAS, and Medeski)! Bonnaroo certified band right there.
This is actually the show I'm looking forward to the most. Robert Randolph in 08 was so amazing that I'm going through withdrawals. I have idea how they gone this long without booking him again. Maybe because of the Kanye statements?
11/29: Judas Priest 12/31: Cake 2/4: Tool 4/21: Van Halen 5/17: Styx, REO Speedwagon, Ted Nugent 6/7-6/10: Bonnaroo 6/11: Yankess vs Braves 6/21: Iron Maiden 7/10: Roger Waters

That being said my personal taste finds this to be a lackluster lineup.. Don't know how the beach boys washed up on shore in TN and their choices of EDM are what will cause me not to attend. I'm sure I will but Big Gigantic better get a sunrise set.
Oh, so you meant it in the exact way everyone was hoping you weren't? Coo.
Lol how is that at all offensive? Asking for a more diverse top 10. Makes sense.
Hey, if you said "a more diverse top 10" that wouldn't have drawn the ire of the board. You decided to label non-white people as "darkness," though. You didn't think that may rub people the wrong way?

Okay, this will be my first visit to the farm, but weren't there more bluegrass/banjo-playing acts as well as more music out of New Orleans in previous years ?
Yes, this does seem true, and could be a clue to future lineup additions. Be sure to check out Trampled By Turtles, The Devil Makes Three and The Soul Rebels, though.
Fabulous! Soul Rebels and Trampled by Turtles are both new to me, and delightful from the sounds of them so far.

It's weird because if he is black it doesn't seem racist but if he's white it totally sounds a little off.
