I will never understand how people who live in Nashville, Knoxville, or anyplace else within a 3-hour radius don't go to this regardless of how great/not great the lineup is. It's such a minimal amount of travel, it blows my mind.
This honestly is the 1st Roo where I've looked from top line to bottom line and there's maybe, maybe, 5 acts I have no interest in seeing. Great job SP/ACE, and now I'm dreading the conflicts associated with my above statement.

I live in the area you are referencing, and I've been asking myself that same question for years. I think what it comes down to is a lot of people are just pussies about the heat/no showers.

yup. god forbid there is anything even remotely comparable to this in the northeast every year
Just checked out Yelawolf and Mac Miller on spotify because of all the hate they were getting. I have to say... They're both pretty terrible... Although Yelawolf is a hair less terrible

startup fest are really risky. there is something to be said about going through growing pains for 7-8 years and figuring out what works. it might even be worth all of the "selling out" its been accused of.
but really..it all comes down to the depth and quality of the lineup. everything else is fluff. gimmie a lineup like this, and i will take care of the rest.

Just speaking for myself, I live in Nashville and have been to Roo 8 times. This will be the first in a while I'm missing and reason being I just want to try different festivals.
Will be making Wakarusa, Forecastle, and (hopefully) Mountain Jam this year.
Ok...for us old farts...Alice Cooper...Late night...Which stage...no thats what I'm talkin about
Love Alice Cooper seen him many times. This is going to be epic. But Also I will be taking my son who will be 18 on June 9, can we get a LN on June 9!!!! Too awesome.
I have never and will never say anything bad about Bonnaroo. I have had a great time all 4 times I went. That being said, it's with a heavy heart that I'm not going to make it this year. Yes there a lot of bands I'd love to see, but there's also a ton of bands listed that I've already seen or have no earthly clue who they are or really just don't care to see. I was really looking forward to going this year, but I just can't justify spending that much for a ticket when I'm not really pumped about the lineup.
To those going, I hope you have the best time ever! I truly will miss being on the farm this year!!!
Most important part of your post there in bold. These ARE the bands you should be checking out. So many bands I love right now that I had never heard of before roo.
Bonnaroo essentially dictates what I will be looking into. Some bands i'll like, some I won't....but more often then not my favorite bands have been discovered by me because they played Bonnaroo.

Okay, this will be my first visit to the farm, but weren't there more bluegrass/banjo-playing acts as well as more music out of New Orleans in previous years ?

I've found plenty of likenesses from Bonnaroo. Sleigh Bells being one of them. I'll never forget them opening with Iron Man... I still watch that video today because it was so crazy in that tent.
Their new album, after catching it today, is pretty nice too. Sad they won't be back this year.

Even if that's the case - don't camp! Nashville is what, an hour from Manchester? 45 minutes? Even if you stay until 4 am watching shows, just don't get too f*cked up, then drive home. You're in bed by 5 a.m., get a nice 6/7 hours of sleep in the a.c., take a shower, and you can be back on the farm by 1 p.m. the following day!
Oh, I agree. Just based on my conversations with locals around here, it's the "grimeyness" of Bonnaroo that seems to turn them off. That said, I think those who really love music hard core and aren't just casual listeners do end up attending. I rarely meet anyone else from Tennessee at Bonnaroo. I'm not sure that a whole lot of locals actually go.

Yes, this does seem true, and could be a clue to future lineup additions. Be sure to check out Trampled By Turtles, The Devil Makes Three and The Soul Rebels, though.
I was really on the line if I had made the right choice to choose Coachella over Bonnaroo. One of the biggest factors was the fact that I would have to fly out the last night of Roo to take the LSAT in the morning. After seeing the lineup, I don't regret my decision whatsoever.
Also, does anyone else find it absolutely ridiculous that Skrillex is higher on the lineup than Alice Cooper? I mean, sure Skrillex is the "in" guy right now, but Cooper is a legend!
