I have lost a lot of respect for COS over the last year or so. I used to enjoy reading some of their stuff, but I feel that gradually over the last two years they've made the steady transition to complete crap. I still will go on from time to time (especially for their festival outlook) But this article is honestly the last straw. They've made some bold statements, but calling Green Day "The Band of the Decade" (2000 to 2010) is utterly absurd and impossible to back up. I figured a lot of you would have a lot to say about this if you haven't already seen it.
I love MMJ but for me The White Stripes fit better. Their first album was 99 and their last was 08. They basically became who they were with the decade and ended with the decade as well.
Saying Green Day was the "Band of the 00s" is like saying the Patriots were the NFL team of the 90s, the Showtime Lakers were the team of the 70s, etc.
Haha, just saw the 2009 date. I was reading about Jack Whites new album and for some reason this article was in a group of about 5 article links just to the right of the Jack White article (Which made me assume it was new). But yes Radiohead, MMJ, etc. So many better options. And as Flanzomar pointed out Green Day are a 90's band. I guess you could argue they are the band of the 90's (though I wouldn't). But 2000's? They put out a failed album with a few crappy covers on it, then american idiot which was obviously a hit, then a horrible follow up to American Idiot that everyone ignored. How is that the band of the 2000's? haha.

Well I mean MMJ's discography spans 1999-2011 with the best albums being from middle of the decade. Honestly my personal vote's for them.

When Flanzo beloved as he is on this board is a reliable source c'mon how about a little journalistic integrity. Where is your Hunter S. Thompson's? Next why don't they embed a reporter with me in down in Wook village in GA camping for a real low down blow for blow play of Bonnaroo? I would welcome that. Instead we will be getting on their slamming them like News Articles on Yahoo News soon. Fuck why don't they just give Sproat a by-line and Juggs an editorial position while they are at it. yes I was on their page the other day looking at their "sources". And I was having a nice glass of Scotch and laughing my ass off. The big problem with journalism these days is "arm chair reporters". Jesus "Green Day" not to slma them they are good at what they do but they have very little in the way of innovation or trend setting. Radiohead continuously reinvents itself. And innovates say with playing most of "In Rainbows" early for fans at a festival known for bootlegging shows. Pink Floyd comparisons are correct. That band used to do that Animals album stripped down without the Animals sounds is awesome for the afficiando out there who has happened upon that auditory treasure. "Dark Side Of The Moon" was played live before it was a studio release.

You're also all forgetting about a little band called Mastodon. Now, I know most people here are frightened of loud noises, but their decade looks a little like this: Remission > Leviathan > Blood Mountain > Crack the Skye. That's nothing but awesomeness.

Do Outkast count as a "band?" If so, they deserve serious consideration.
For the 2000s? I don't know about that. You've got Stankonia and Speakerboxx/the Love Below, but then you've got Idlewild and...nothing. If you want to talk from say, 1996-2003, you could count ATLiens and Aquemini and I'd be with you, but for the 2000s they've really only got two good albums.
Wilco also deserves heavy consideration: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, A Ghost is Born, Sky Blue Sky, Wilco (the album) - that's a fine run.
I know what you mean. I think on the strength of Stankonia alone they're in the discussion, that's one of the 3-5 best records of the decade IMO. Plus, I would kinda count Big Boi's solo album in there as well, and that album is just phenomenal. I could understand not including Big Boi's solo record in with their output, though.
