It's all about signal to noise ratios. Not putting the Bonnaroo board down really, but I don't see a true community forming there, ever. The board it too slow and difficult to use, for starters. Many people are going to register, logon, post 'BONNAROO!', 'where are the druqs?', 'I wanna see band x', etc., then become frustrated and never sign back on. There are no stickies (so far), the whole 'subject required' thing is annoying, and there's a good chance the whole thing will be shut down once the druq talk starts up and they find moderation too exhausting.
The Proboards format here at Infroo is far more intuitive and friendly. Thanks to the 'view latest posts' link, you're always able to see what's new in the community. Stickies make common questions and their answers easy to find. Moderation keeps the innocent newb ignorance (and blatant veteran stupidity ) to a minimum. The membership 'levels' and karma systems are cute, if meaningless, ways of getting members involved in the community. Sure, it may be clique-ish at times (what internet community isn't?), but in general we're a pretty friendly crew. It might just take a few dozen posts to break the ice first.
To be honest, I don't think Bonnaroo is trying to compete with Inforoo. I think most of the bad vibes between the boards stems from all the drama(s) happening here on Inforoo over the last few months. If someone left the Inforoo boards (or was kicked off - to be perfectly honest, I'm completely ignorant of any of the soap operas going on, and still chat with Oaty, Korvette) and wants to bad mouth it from somewhere else, so be it... that's their prerogative. No skin off my nose. I still prefer Inforoo.
we should all create multiple accounts and start up Druq talk threads.... see how fast it gets shut down... that would be awesome! set up emails you'll never use, other than to Authenticate your joining and then sign up there....
...on second though, i'll just let it die on its own, that's way too much work.
The boards on the Bonnaroo site remind me more of a myspace page than anything else. Most of topics center around suggestions for AC/Superfly. I don't really feel like the boards on in competition with each other.
If anything, it's nice to have a board that might filter out people who sign up on inforoo so they can post the same damn link for the fiftieth time. Might separate the people who want to talk about Roo here from the people who just want to talk.

Hmm...that IS interesting.
I haven't registered over there...and I probably won't. I like inforoo, and I have made my place here and don't plan to change. Besdies, I like some of the new kids (I mean I was new this time last year)....at least the ones who post intelligently, but having 38957293857389 new people post the same "OMG LED ZEPPELIN IS COMING?!?!?!" rumor or whatever over and over again is kind of annoying. Sorry to anybody who disagrees...I mean I'm all for new people who don't suck ;D
I just want a lineup. Boo to their message board business.
"If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has the power to move you, if the simple things in nature have a message you understand, Rejoice, for your soul is alive."
It could be the mass email that they just sent out announcing the new site....
The server is probably just getting SLAMMED.
ya thank god for the RSS feed, i got that announcement yesterday... then i got the email the next day.
if it weren't for the RSS feed i would have been a day behind on the new announcements... like most recreational roo'ers. I don't want to find about the announcement a day late unless i was incapacitated for that amount of time!
