A quick search for bands of Canton Ohio fielded a couple interesting results. Marilyn Manson was born in Canton Ohio. It is also the place where the bands (christian) Reliant K and (indie) Lovedrug were formed.
There is your good and evil a christian band and then the bad there is Marilyn Manson!
I don't know whether GNR was mentioned before the list, but a lot of evidence points to them. They used to play a Sabbath cover during one tour, and you can say that Axle's ascension caused him to go from good to evil. Also, they having a working title called "Ides of March." I'm not saying I'm right by no means, but it seems logical.
If it's Mogwai they better not get Animal Collectived. I couldn't imagine seeing Mogwai when its not dark around me. Having seen them a couple of times I can say that they would slay a LN tent

I hope everyone checked out mogwai's wikipedia page. it really looks like they are the ones. gary DIRECTLY confirmed that this band had its rise to fame because of black sabbath related what-not? Here is a quote taken from mogwai's wiki:
"In 1998 the band had their first singles chart success with a split single with Magoo of Black Sabbath cover versions reaching number 60 in the UK and an EP of "Fear Satan" remixes reaching number 57"
Note how it says "first singles chart success"
With this piece of information, I can't help but think of what our friend plastic pepper brought to our attention:
6 out of the 7 involved some information about the band - album titles, song titles, band member names, locations, stuff like that. BUT not a single clue required any information about the band/artist that you couldn't find on their Wikipedia entry. So they don't require any of us to know anything obscure about the bands/artists themselves, either.
I haven't read further into Mogwai's wiki page yet (too excited to post this before anyone else!) but i'll do that now and bet there are more wikipedia confirmations for the rest of the clue. fingers crossed.

Our boy Gary referenced a post noting that the term 'ascension' refers to initial success.

I was going to ask this myself as well. I get the impression that they aren't as big as, say, Explosions in the Sky, but I don't know where they would fit on the lineup. Also, anybody have any song/album recommendations so I get start getting prepared?

I say right where Explosion was last year on the bill if not a line higher. Great grab if this is true.
Late night set would be ideal, though I was hoping EITS would get that last year, but I guess it worked out okay (despite Plant being on at the same time). I managed to catch about an hour of both. Personally I'd put Mogwai and EITS up there on about the same level as innovators of this particular style of music, though they're not at all the same band. For me EITS has been a more accessible band, and I'd actually probably put Mogwai a little lower on the lineup. It really depends who else is on the rest of the lineup. Either way, I'm excited if this is indeed the answer to the Clue #1.
And I'd love to see the Magnetic Zeros back because I couldn't really see their show in 2010. Give 'em like a 2 pm slot on the Which Stage.
