I am dissapointed with the way California voted on our ballot measures.
- We had the chance to repeal the death penalty, but failed to do so.
- We voted on a tax increase. It's supposedly supposed to be for debt, but how can we repay debt if spending also increases? ???
- We are going to continue to allow Unions to use payroll deduction funds for political campaign contributions. (Since that makes sense..)
- There was some good insurance reform that would provide more discounts on premiums for more drivers, didn't pass. (I guess most people have bad driving records and don't want the increased premiums.)
California, I love you... But I don't understand your voters...
I am perplexed by California's ballot initiative procedure. If I was a resident, had $200, and three day weekends, I could get an initiative on the ballot to rename it "The Smurf State" if I wanted to. It's a more pure democratic process, which is not always a good thing. Your thoughts on this?
"Idiots should NOT be allowed to vote! && apparently this country is full of them! The only things obama has done is give more undeserving "lazy ass" people food stamps, not protect our men and women in Libya(when all he had to do is say go!), he is a damn muslim (any person with common sense can see that!), he has put this country in more debt in ONE term, than EVERY PRESIDENT COMBINED!!! He is forcing religions to provide things they DONT believe in! Hes been caught OFF GUARD saying e is gonna sell us out to Russia and i mean thats a few things out of thousands or more!!! If you dont watch news or know a damn thibg other than "oh well he gives me a free phone && food stamps so i never have to work," well you need to move to another damn country!!!!"
"The end of the world is coming for sure now my people, now we just have to stick together."
the world is over.

I'm glad Obama won, but the way people on the left are celebrating makes me kind of sad. I honestly wish everyone would realize that extreme attitudes, no matter which side of the aisle, are generally a bad thing.
Our country (and our generation in particular) is a pure heaven or hell state. People are either euphoric or infuriated. The number of rational and level-headed Americans is dwindling by the day and the sensationalist media only speeds along the process.
Things won't change quickly (if they do) because the House will be bucking anything Obama tries to get passed, although it remains to be seen if it's out of principle or spite. Obama learned how to flex his muscles in the Obamacare situation, so hopefully in matters of importance (like extending Bush tax cuts for all but the wealthiest people - something the GOP is already saying they won't compromise on) he can do it again.

I love how progressive we are. In addition to your three day weekends and 200 bucks, you would need about 600,000 signatures of registered California voters on a petition. THEN we could all vote on renaming it the smurf state
But seriously though. I am blessed to be in a place where any idea can just be put on paper, and enough people agree, it can be voted in as a law. It's one of the reasons we were the first state to legalize medical marijuana back in 1996.
I feel bad for other states, that still have outdated pointless laws that just make no sense (seriously, why can't you buy alcohol on Sundays, Georgia?).
I know no one probably wants to discuss this, and I might be run out of here for bringing it up, buy I'm already wondering about 2016. I seriously hope Joe Biden realizes he's a VP and has no shot at being elected president. I'd rather see Hilary run instead of him.

He would be 74 on Inauguration Day if he won. Don't see that happening. Also, he is way too much of a polarizing figure.
Christie has won over quite a bit of the moderate/democratic populace in the Northeast with how he handled Sandy. He at least showed he's not above thanking people when it's warranted, regardless of their affiliation. And he has been incredibly critical of the GOP's handling of Mitt's campaign.
But if the GOP is smart, they'll latch onto those big 'ol love handles and ride Christie to the White House.

Contrary to what Glenn Beck and Victoria Jackson believe the country is not "dead" and America does not need to be destroyed just because Obama won the election. Ridiculous and over the top (as usual)
It's sad that people view the election going a certain way similar to a military base under siege. That's not the mindset that will lead to progress.
The group of guys in my office that he belongs to basically believe that the USA is over now. In 4 years or less, Obama will destroy the country, and we will be left to try to piece together a new existence as a third world country. Seriously. Reason #340 that I wear headphones most of the time at work.

Haha good god. What do they think is about to happen? Obama laid low for 4 years to get re-elected THEN he hatches his master plan to ruin America?

I agree that handing ballot access directly to individuals is a good thing. It just seems that some good initiatives have been watered down by multiple ballot measures. It's still a new experiment, though; a few years from now maybe a more definitive picture of that process will emerge.

I'm putting my prediction on Rubio for repub candidate '16. The hispanic vote, Florida, southern, it's too much for them to pass on imo.
I don't even want to name anyone for dems, because I certainly don't want Hillary and I doubt Biden will run. I really don't see any young stars out there in (D) land, so I'll give it 4 years and hope something develops. Better yet, maybe a good independent candidate will emerge. President Chomsky?

You'd be surprised how often I've heard this. The first time, I was at a club a year ago with my gf and we were talking to this couple. Fast forward 20 minutes and we had just gotten an ear full of what Obama was going to unleash upon the free world if he was re-elected. My uncle has said something similar, then again, he's also stocking up on survival gear and learning to grow his own food......because obviously Obama didn't put into action his master plan when he had full control of congress, noo he's going to wait till he's in gridlock city...

It makes me laugh to think what the reaction of the average conservative would be when Chomsky started to talk about issues. hahaha I love Noam, there would be so many heads exploding at once...I can't even imagine, but it makes me smile.

This is why sometimes I just hide my head and try to pretend that I don't have a political opinion ... also why a lot of worker bee's do the same... my comment for this election while watching the coverage is this - "this shit runs deep". So many people voting against their own interests in states impacted highly by the bible belt and proto-conservative movements. Told to be scared of their fellow man by using inciderary language to describe large swathes of people - and how well it still works.
We are moving forward - "but sometimes. I get discouraged"
Also the Dow dropping 300 points "because of the election" is the worst indicator of global economy stats - I hate the news media mang... Basically major corporate interests busted their bank accounts to get carte blanche and LOST of course the dow is going to drop. Even if they edged their bets -the crazies- who have been told repeatedly Obama is the END OF THE CLIFF will pull their money out. D'uh.
It has more to do with national perception of partisanship than Obama bringing the country under. It's all an insane spectacle.

I've already had 4 clients cancel or postpone projects today.... Pretty sure our internal discussions concerning moving our corporate headquarters out of Cleveland will come up again before the end of the year, which at this point, I endorse. NYC!

The DOW dropping also has a lot to do with the fact European growth projections were much higher than what the actual numbers showed. All these banks have major $ in play over there, so that's a huge part of it.
But yeah, this will be "because of the election" in tomorrow's papers, you can bank on that.

I just hate that people are so easily distracted. My mom e-mailed me from work to ask me to look into the whole "Obama said that you should vote for revenge" thing because some woman she works with started up a discussion about it at her job and it was the first my mom had heard about it.
The woman basically said "Oh did you watch Fox News last night? They were showing Obama say to vote for revenge and that's so bad. Why would he say that? Revenge isn't something you should vote for" and stuff like that. My dad takes in right wing media like it's an IV goign right into his veins but my mom sees and understands the hypocrisy and lies that Fox News and similar outlets use. So she asked the woman if they were showing the whole speech or just taking a part of it out of context (which they were) but the woman couldn't be reasoned with even after I sent a few news stories about it.
But my main issue in all of this.....was that a bunch arguing over the president saying "vote for revenge" and what he means and all that is absolutely pointless. It has zero substance to it. It's just buzz words trying to scare you or provoke an emotional response. Focus on actual issues or real topics. Talk about your feelings about something real. Don't get distracted by sound bytes.
This, unfortunately, is the small town I grew up in BFE WV. Flag flying half-mast and upside down as a sign of distress over the election. Then once it started hitting bigger news channels, they claimed they wanted to fly the flag at half -mast but not upside down but their flagpole was broke. Im not really surprised, the ignorance that valley spews is amazing. So thankful to be out of that redneck valley.
Holy shiz. that is disrespectful. There are thousands of veterans who probably spit out their coffee.
Sadly, I'm willing to bet there are thousands of veterans who agree with that sentiment.
Someone I grew up with, have been friends with for 20 years, and have always thought to be a hot-headed nut, but a good-hearted one, posted on Facebook "A marine should shoot this dumb motherf*cking enemy of the state in the face right now" during Obama's speech last night. Followed by shit-ton of ignorant and racist nonsense.
I called him on it, and he basically ended our friendship because I voted for Obama.
Crazy people are crazy, it doesn't matter what walk of life they're from.
What do all of these people really think is going to happen? I read so many posts on Facebook saying things like "better buy your guns now", "I'm moving to Canada", or "I will pray for America." What are they so afraid of other than change itself? It's like things have to always be the way it's been otherwise its wrong. God forbid gays have the right to marry, weed is made legal, and a man of mixed ethnicity is running the country. It really comes down to being close minded and racist in my opinion. I never get an explanation on why I should be buying guns or why I should be running to Europe. Even my sister in law deleted me from her friends list last night because she didn't like seeing me celebrate. I saw nothing conservative from my "conservative" friends. Only hate and disrespect. We won this time though. The world as we know it is changing. Liberal ideals are soon to be the norm in our country and I can't wait. These morally right people who are so afraid of whats to come are on the run and all they have left is insults and low blows. They've really got nothing left. Hop on board or get the fuck out of the way because this change is very real and I don't see it losing any momentum until we reach true equality. USA! USA! USA!
