That's pretty cool. It would almost assuredly be a Soft Bulletin set. I personally would love to see them play the Yoshimi album in full. That would be my #1 draw at any festival even though I've seen Flips enough times to not feel compelled to see a regular set again for years.
The DM thing makes me think it's a definite possibility, otherwise you'd think they'd answer publicly.

Not so fast... They did The SB for multiple stops last year, starting with the NYE Freakout in OKC. Near the end of last year, we saw them again and they played a normal mixed set of the hits and some obscure stuff. And at the 2011 NYEFO, they released the Live: SB album - I take that as a hint they are done with that album for a bit.
But who knows? It could mean they are getting ready for a Yoshimi tour.
They're playing it at Noise Pop in February which makes me think that. I really doubt they'll be doing just a normal set if they play since they did one before Dark Side at 2010 Roo. It seems most of their shows are just normal sets, but if at Roo 2012 I'm thinking Soft Bulletin. Fingers crossed for Yoshimi.

I've had enough of the Flips at Bonnaroo for a few years. If you need a band to repeat every year (or every other year), just get My Morning Jacket. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Flaming Lips, but I'll be damned if people don't treat them like one the best bands ever, and I find them reallyyyy overrated and not that great live (sound wise... maybe it's just Wayne... or me).
Who am I kidding, I'm just mad at myself for missing the Dark Side set in 2010, because I got all pissy that I bought fake blotter

Yup this is exactly how I feel too, including being pissed that I missed Dark Side in 2010 and also getting bunk shrooms (except that was Saturday night for Stevie > Jay)
That's odd considering I got sick off of some fungus during "Forever Young" at Jay-Z's set. I'll never forget that.
But, yeah, I like the Flaming Lips, but let them do some other festivals, PLEASE, before coming back again. It might be heresy, but uh, I feel the same about Phish. There, I said it.

Flaming Lips are amazing live. If you've seen them a million times I can see it getting old; but anytime I bring someone to one of their shows who has never been to one they are left with their jaw on the ground.
Like I said either in this thread or another; if they got a daytime what stage slot, I would be perfectly happy w/ that. Plenty of other things going on in case I don't feel like watching them. Although chances are I would watch them and be right up front in the pit for it too
5/11/13: Sweetlife Festival
5/16/13: The Flaming Lips
5/20/13: Fitz and the Tantrums
6/7-6/9: Governors Ball
6/13-6/16: Bonnaroo
6/21-23: Firefly (???)
7/11-13 Camp Bisco
8/31-9/1: Made In America
9/27-29 Tomorrowworld (???)
Just to throw this out there, but over the last few months Wayne has done a lot of work with Sean Lennon and Yoko Ono. At this year's NYE Freakout they even performed a handful of Beatles songs: Strawberry Fields, I am the Walrus, I Want You, A Day in the Life etc...). If they don't do a Soft Bulletin set, then maybe it's possible that they'll do a The Beatles set in the same vein of Dark Side from their 2010 Freakout and Bonnaroo 2010.
02/08 Tool 02/11 Jeff Mangum 02/17 of Montreal 02/29 Blind Pilot 03/31 The Naked & The Famous 05/14 M83 and I Break Horses 05/19 Flaming Lips, Young the Giant, Dawes and AWOLNATION 06/07 Bonnaroo 2012!!! 06/13 Roger Waters 07/28 Toadies
I kind of figured that about Youth Lagoon. They're touring with DCFC, and DCFC will be in Portugal the weekend of Roo. I figured it was possible that Youth Lagoon would head to Primavera, too. Still kind of surprising, though, because they're definitely the type of band that Roo loves to book for Thursday night
Given last year's thursday acts, I feel like they may be a bit too chill for a fest like Roo.
Nah, I could totally see them Thursday night closing a tent like The XX in '10. This news bums me out. I was really hoping for YL
Maybe it'll be a spoken word set with Wayne telling us to "Come on, mutherQuackers" for 2 hrs straight.
I love the FLips, but Wayne does tend to talk too much. Plus, with this being a big election year, you have to figure we'd get a bunch of pseudo political rants.

Sorry, I understand people not wanting the same bands at roo every year, I totally understand that, but this year will be our first time going, and the Lips being there in any form at all, makes me insanely happy! I saw them for the 1st time live a couple years back and honestly considered quiting my mundane life and just follow them on their tour! *didn't mean to derail the thread, sorry- psyched to hear a glimmer of hope for the Lips

I understand what you mean. I've only seen them twice, I guess I just jumped on the wagon late. If there's one band I could follow around, it would probably be them. Maybe Bon Iver too. I was fortunate enough to land a photo pass to the 2010 Forecastle Festival, and leaning up against that stage as the show started and taking pics of all the madness of balloons, confetti, smoke and lights right above my head was the second greatest moment I've ever experienced at a concert. And that's a very close second to seeing Roger Waters perform Darkside of the Moon.

And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

I emailed tune yards' management:
Me: I was wondering if there were any plans for more shows here in the US? I live in Texas and pretty much my only chance to see them would be here in Dallas or at Bonnaroo this summer

Avery: You will see them. That's all i can say.
Sounds good to me
Oh hell. Why did you throw in two options? Now we don't know if you will see them in Dallas, or we will see them at Bonnaroo?
