I saw him a while ago at SPAC in upstate New York. It was.....interesting.

After every song, he walked from one end of the stage to the other bowing, over and over. At first it was like "hey man, it's cool, it's Petty he's just out of his mind". After the 4th song, it became "....is he still even part of this reality right now?". Then he had people hold lighters up for about 15 minutes without playing a note.

Utterly bizarre. I think what hurt his show was people saw one of the "best Allman Bros. concerts ever" (my dad's words; Greg had one of his last 'great voice' days, I think...I haven't heard him sing that well since) and everyone was all boned up from a great show. Then Petty comes out and mumbles something about life and takes 52 bows in 10 minutes.

I'm all for giving the guy another shot, but only in a Roo type of setting.
