I know they're only major label as a result of Pumped Up Kicks, but they still feel an awful lot like a major label's idea of what an indie band should sound like.

With such a thin resume and such a high billing, I've been wondering how they will play to go more than 45 minutes. According to a few of their setlists from Japan (when they weren't playing any festivals), they played 13 songs, one of which is a cover of Weezer's Say It Ain't So. So with that setlist, they could likely play 75 min or so.
That's about how long they played when I saw them at Outside Lands. They played Say It Ain't So then too. It's a very high energy set. I'm hoping for nighttime too, or at least something like six or 7 in the evening.
Actually excited to see this show as long as conflicts allow. So many catchy hooks on Torches, even if you don't count that one song that's been way played out at Shoe Carnivals everywhere.
I like the whole album as well... looking forward to hearing them live! 'Helena Beat' has a great chorus fo' sho', gets stuck in my head everytime I listen to it.

I just hope they put them on a stage that will accommodate all of the people who are just sticking around to hear Pumped Up Kicks. They were playing before Two Door Cinema Club at Lolla last year, and it was such a mess trying to move during that set.

Remember Hockey a few years ago getting on every single festival bill?
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.

Come on, Foster the People is not like Hockey at all. Foster the People write great hooks, Hockey don't.

I don't have a problem with Foster the People really, they're just sort of there. Hockey was just an example of an indie sound signed to a major who were being pushed hard on festival goers for a second.

Yeah. If FTP's songs weren't so damn catchy I would happily dismiss them as an example of the majors trying to figure out what indie sounds like. But they are. Torches is a good record.
Now will they be able to sustain that success for a second record? Probably not. But the fact stands that Torches is a good record with a boatload of catchy hooks.

I'm not so sure about that. Mark Foster is the man behind the band and he is very talented. Plus, he was making TV commercial jingles before forming Foster the People so he knows how to make catchy music.
They may not make a great sophomore album but I dont see them going away.

Yeah, he looked like he just crapped his pants. I'm not holding that against him, just want people to reassure me that it was a bad night for him.
Yeah IDK I have nothing to compare it to since I haven't really listened to these guys, but I do know how difficult those songs are to sing live though, and how someone's voice sounds when they are nervous. Considering those 2 factors he did fairly well.

I thought it was pretty good for a grammy performance, no one does a outstanding job at those anyway.

Okay, that makes sense. I realize he was singing a difficult vocal song, he just had the deer-in-headlights face going. It doesn't help that he looks about 10 years younger than I am and he's older than me.
