During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer.
On Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.
Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words, they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.
At the end of the month, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrate their gallantry and valor by either throwing their own Movember party or attending one of the infamous Gala Partés held around the world by Movember, for Movember.
Movember - a global movement
Since its humble beginnings in Melbourne Australia, Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more than 1.1 Million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to participate, with formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Ireland. In addition, Movember is aware of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas supporting the campaign and men’s health cause across the globe, from Russia to Dubai, Hong Kong to Antarctica, Rio de Janeiro to Mumbai, and everywhere in between.
No matter the country or city, Movember will continue to work to change established habits and attitudes men have about their health, to educate men about the health risks they face, getting them to act on that knowledge thereby increasing the chances of early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment.
In 2010, nearly 119,000 Canadian Mo Bros and Mo Sistas got on board, raising $22.3 million CAD.
Big steps have been taken towards changing attitudes and habits relating to men’s health around the world but there is still much to be done to catch up with the women’s health movement. Via the moustache, Movember aims to fulfill its vision of having an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health by continuing to spark conversation and spread awareness of men’s health each year.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
^^^^. Is it because of the nature of your job that you cant grow your facial hair? Thats always a tricky situation if thats the case. A few of us at our firm decided to grow Staches and raise funds as an office....and it has worked out really well. Everyone seems to be jumping on board and having a good laugh along the way. On the other hand, I have many friends who have tried the same approach at their offices and it has been scraped.......

When I worked at the rehab, it was a requirement of being a male employee that you participated in No Shave November. We just had a gentleman's agreement to not make fun of people who grew terrible beards. Now, I'm all professional, so I would have to keep it trimmed and neat. My beard only looks good when it's big, so I've been shaving for a year this month after not shaving for 11 years (I still kept it cut down to varying degrees).
For whatever reason, I have a great beard and a flimsy red/flesh colored mustache (the rest of my facial hair is either bright red or light brown, depending on the season). I have to grow a diesel beard for 2 weeks before I can shave it away and leave a mildly acceptable 'stache.
Either way, this is my 2nd participating Movember. Last year I convinced the COO of my company to join me and he's doing it again this year.
