^^I really, really, really hope so. Because if not, then uggggghhhh. I just died a LOT on the inside. Excuse me while I curl up into a ball and weep unconsolably in the corner for the next seven or eight hours. Does anyone have one of those mind eraser thingies from Men In Black I can borrow for a few?
I can live with him licensing his art to peddle products for big corporations. I can even live with him wasting his talent writing jingles for Coca-Cola. But this? This is just way too much for me. I'm sooo glad that these are the more artistically relevant endeavors he left The White Stripes to pursue.
P.S. By the way, you know that feeling you get whenever one of your favorite musicians does something akin to ripping open your chest and taking a gigantic sh*t all over your heart and soul? From this point onward, it shall forever be known in my mind as a Detroit Steamer.

Seems like a bit of an overreaction IMO.
If you don't like it....don't listen to it. Nobody is forcing you.

Alright, so perhaps I was exaggerating just a tad - but only just a tad. And yes, I know nobody is forcing me to listen to it, but that's really not the point I'm trying to make here. The White Stripes have been my favorite contemporary band for close to 10 years now, and an enormous part of what drew me to them in the first place was that they were such a breath of fresh air from cringe-worthy bands like Godsmack, Korn, Limp Bizkit (and yes, ICP) that were so inexplicably popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s. There are many bands that I don't particularly care for, but only a small handful that I actively hate - and ICP is one of them. So to see one of my favorite musicians ever pairing up with some of my least favorite musicians ever cuts really fucking deep for me.
It's like if John Steinbeck teamed up to co-author Snooki's autobiography, or if I went to the movie theater and the marquee was advertising a Martin Scorsese / Uwe Boll co-production - just a complete waste of some truly fantastic artistic talent, in my mind. Or imagine if you went to a fancy restaurant and ordered the filet mignon, but instead of coming with a side of mashed potatoes, there was a great big cow turd on the side of the plate. You might still have a perfectly fine and tasty grade-A cut of meat, but there's still that giant heap of shit mixed in with it that makes the steak nowhere near as enjoyable as it otherwise would have been (now how's that for an overreaction? )
The sad thing is I will still probably end up listening to it at least once - partly because I am a huge Jack White fan, and partly just out of sheer curiosity over what it might possibly sound like. But suffice it to say, I'm setting the bar pretty fucking low in terms of expectations.

You know that Jack just produces a bunch of the blue series singles, right? It's not like he plays music on every single track that's released by Third Man. I hate ICP and love Jack White/White Stripes as well but you're letting this get to you in a way that it really shouldn't. All of the "blue series" releases from Third Man is all about mixing different styles of music with the Third Man name. You've got rap, comedy, bluegrass, country, and many different types. This is just another step.
Plus they're both from detroit and make music. I really don't think people will even remember this a year from now.
Now if Jack White joined ICP or was going to make them his backing band or something.....yea.....i'd react like you are.
But having ICP just release a single from Third Man Records is far from the destruction of Jack White. Plus.....the song isn't really that bad. Jeff the Brotherhood supply some great music for them to "rap" over. I'm not going to buy it but it also doesn't make me cringe. It's funny to me that Mozart had a song called "Lick my arse" and I didn't know about that.

Haha I think it's funny that people are really up in arms about this. First of all, I've never understood any degree of animosity towards ICP. They're not like Nickelback. I've always seen ICP as nothing more than a joke band, with ICP in on the joke. They don't take themselves or their terrible music seriously, and it's not like you have to deal with it on the radio or in bars or anything. It's just an amusing band with a bizarre cult following. And Jack clearly finds them humorous as well, and is doing a comedic single. But I guess if that somehow affects your opinion of Jack and the music he's made, then, well, that's your opinion man. It reminds me of when Eminem was in that "feud" with ICP all those years ago. I feel like he didn't really understand who or what ICP was, and that trying to feud with them was like someone feuding with Weird Al.

The sloth is far too intelligent to intentionally antagonize its enemies. The wise sloth prefers to sit back and stay above the fray, contentedly eating leaves.

I honestly think most of the animosity toward ICP stems not from the actual band but from the juggalos. The hardcore ICP fans really are just some of the worst people out there.
Anyone who's legitimately upset about this needs to slow down and back up. This is just Jack White saying "Fuck it, I'm Jack White, I'm gonna do something with ICP just because I can."
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Alright, I'll admit, my head was so close to exploding after seeing the headline that I only skimmed the article. I thought they were going to be featured on the same track; the fact that he's only producing it isn't anywhere near as bad.
I have no problem with Third Man releasing a diverse catalog of music - in fact, I actually like that they put out a range of genres. But I still think this is just a waste of his time. ICP is one of a very small handful of bands in which I see absolutely no artistic merit whatsoever. And let's not get too carried away saying they both make music - I mean, I suppose that's technically true... in the same way that Don DeLillo and the lady who wrote Twilight both write novels. But the craft of one is not really comparable to the other.
Am I the only one who's finds it more surprising that mozart wrote songs about licking smurfs than I am that white produced an ICP track?
Check out the mozart and scatology wikipedia page. I had no idea....
Oh yeah, Mozart was a filthy motherfucker. It takes a very special kind of individual to tell a woman that he wants "to sh*t on your nose and watch it drip your chin," and an even more special kind of individual when that person just so happens to be his cousin.
