Wasnt the Sonic Forest supposed to come back last year? What ever happened to that?
I think that was a misunderstanding. They were trying to get a kickstarter going that would allow them to re-vamp the Sonic Forest and bring it around again. Not very many people contributed and the kickstarter failed.
1. musicians, since it is a music festival. 2. art, since it supposedly is an art festival as well 3. grounds/facility upgrades 4. lower prices all around (you may say i'm a dreamer) 5. activities like the sonic forest put a dance tent in that area, like perry's stage at lolla. granted, there might be some sound bleed issues, but that's my general idea.
honestly, i don't think there would be any sound bleed issues if comedians are on the main stages. people speaking into the mics on the which and what aren't overwhelmed by music from the tents. chris rock seemed fine on the what stage, whatever year that was. lots of people sit in the grass and listen to the music, i think they can do it for the comedy as well.
So you hope that ticket prices would be lowered without bookin' comedians, but you also want the money used to pay them to be used on musicians, upgradin' the grounds/facilities, and/or art installations (this would include the Sonic Forest)? Sorry, but you are a dreamer. Ticket prices are never gonna go back down fer the festival. And you want a "dance tent?" I believe that the Silent Disco qualifies.
And Chris Rock was there in 2008.
that was intended as an ordered list of what i would prefer them to do with the money saved from not hiring comedians, not what they should do with the total amount saved (if that makes sense). also, the 'all around' was aimed at everything - showers, food, water, etc., not just ticket prices. have you seen perry's tent at lollapalooza? granted i haven't in person, but it looks and sounds pretty sweet from the pictures i've seen and hearing people's descriptions and experiences. very different than a silent disco.
instead of the comedy tent, i would like that space and money being used on: 1. musicians, since it is a music festival. 2. art, since it supposedly is an art festival as well
Using that space for another stage/other bands isn't a terrible request. You want more music and less comedy. That's cool.
But it's not a "Music and Art" festival. It's a Music and Arts Festival. "Arts" meaning all different kinds of things. That's why they have stage shows, cabaret shows, performance art stuff, stand up comedy, and a variety of other things to do.
3. grounds/facility upgrades
They do this already anyway.
4. lower prices all around (you may say i'm a dreamer)
I wish razor blades didn't cost so damn much, myself. But prices going down likely won't happen.
5. activities like the sonic forest
"SONIC FOREST! I TOTALLY GET YOU NOW" - Aziz Ansari
I too want the sonic forest back but I doubt the comedy tent is the reason it hasn't come back.

If there's a heavy rock act playing on Which stage while a comedian is talking on the What stage there will be a few problems. I just don't think it would work.

That was at night and I'm pretty sure he was unopposed (at least nobody playing on the Which stage....correct me if i'm wrong somebody).
If they had all comedians do it they would likely be during the day and it would be hard to stop other acts from playing.

ok, well i guess i'll keep this going. of the activities you mentioned, comedy is the only one in a dedicated air conditioned tent. it is more of a priority for this festival than i think it should be, that's all.
well, in 10+ years i should hope they have done some upgrades, but if viewed from the entirety of the festival's life, it's been at a snail's pace and there's still much that could be done. to be specific and picky, how about booking 2 fewer comedians and finally figuring out a way to fix the walkway between the what stage and the rest of centeroo.
why so much pushback about prices being lowered? i clearly indicated i don't think it's going to happen, but merely stating i wish it would happen seems to have struck a personal cord in some. as a consumer who has given thousands of dollars to this festival over the years, i would like to pay less. is that so wrong? i've got my ticket bought for this year, so i feel i am getting value for my money. is it then such a huge hypocritical stance to wish that prices for the festival and things at it to be lower? it's just a pretty simple wish.
i didn't state that i blame the comedy tent for the sonic forest not coming back and i don't believe that to be the case either.
again, there has never been sound bleed issues from the what or tents to the which or from anywhere else to the what to the point that you couldn't hear someone speaking into a microphone on stage. conan was heard fine on the what stage that one year he hosted it. correct me if i'm wrong.
according to the schedule, in 2008 willie nelson was supposedly playing on the which for the first 15 min. of chris rock's set. i don't remember it being a problem. how does the time of day matter if your concern is sound bleed? in terms of comedy not working during the day, that's a separate concern, but one i don't share either.
i obviously love bonnaroo but i wish some things were different. sorry if having those two contradictory thoughts in my head are uncomfortable.

Ill answer the full post tomorrow but lol at saying the comedy tent is only air conditioned tent
without the comedy tent i would never have seen john waters, lewis black, aziz twice, ralphie may, stuffed and unstrung, nor would i have seen or met workaholics. i don't understand how you could want the comedy to disappear
I don't think anyone was tryin' to be mean about it, dude.
Sorry if you thought you were being attacked or anything like that. To be honest I thought we were having a back and forth discussion and was looking forward to both of us sharing our opinions. You feel one way about the comedy tent and some of us disagree. That's what the boards are here for
(1) Damon Albarn (2) Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds (3) King Khan & His Shrines (4) Ty Segall (5) Ms Lauryn Hill (6) Darkside (7) Kanye (8) Janelle Monae (9) Goat (10) Meshuggah.

You just sound like your not a comedy fan... I love everything about the comedy tent and I think it'd be a tragedy if it was removed. Plus... Air conditioning, c'mon now.
so flight of the conchords just announced a handful of dates in new zealand starting on june 13th! kinda doubt they will be at bonnaroo but it's nice to know that they'll still be touring. here's to hoping

After seeing a show in Brooklyn, I'd love it if they brought the cast of the cartoon Bob's Burgers to the farm. They did a show for the premiere and it had Eugene Mirman, Kristen Schaal, Jon Benjamin as well as lesser known guests from the show Larry Murphy and Kurt Braunholer (spelling?).
It was awesome and that could easily be made into a set.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
My tops, a lot of who were previously mentioned... Flight of the Conchords, Dave Chappelle (as unlikely as it is I would love it), Louis C.K., Zach Galifianakis, Jason Gillearn, It's Always Sunny ( It's always sunny would need a stage I think or a tent at least, cause their demand would be HUGE.)
...It's Always Sunny ( It's always sunny would need a stage I think or a tent at least, cause their demand would be HUGE.)
Don't ever doubt AC/S's ability to totally misgauge the demand to see a comedic act of that level/style/caliber. Though I loathe to recall the Conan Debacle the festival really[/b][/u] screwed the pooch that year. The man was sellin' out venues over three times the size of the Comedy Theatre yet they stuck him there. And their policy on gettin' in line fer those tickets went out the window.
I would absolutely love the cast of Sunny to perform at 'Roo, but I could totally see them gettin' stuck in the Comedy Theatre and the demand bein' totally insane.
