Ryan Adams | heartbreaker
inspired by puptent 's rankings of ryan adams albums, and I wanted to argue but I wanted to make sure I have my research right. (though whiskeytown=/=ryan adams. separate list)
William Basinski | Cascade ....................................... People Of The North | Era Of Manifestations
Lou Reed | Transformer........................................ Matana Roberts | COIN COIN Chapter Three
so aside from lou reed, are these similar? never heard of any of them
Not at all.
Basinski is one of my favorite current composers. I really like the new album but if your new to him I'd suggest Disintegration Loops. It's a haunting reminder of 9/11.
People Of The North is a Oneida/Guardian Alien side-project. It's tripped out. It's fucked up. and it's BEAUTIFUL.
Matana Roberts is total skronk free jazz. Chances are good that you HAVE heard her on other peoples records. TV On The Radio - Dear Science and Godspeed You Black Emperor - Yanqui UXO are both good examples. I got introduced to her wayyyyyy back in 2006 in a "band" called Sticks And Stones. I'd really try that new record out. It's my favorite of hers since The Chicago Project. That said, Now Playing:
Matana Roberts | The Chicago Project
Featuring members of Prefuse 73 and Tortoise with Fred Anderson. Top notch.

Only just discovered this excellent 30+ piece fusion band, even though they are among the top-billed for Newport Jazz this year. This album from last year was recorded live with no overdubs in the studio in front of a small audience, and was filmed as well. So, while you can listen to the whole album here, it's even better to watch the whole album here.

actually i'll keep the jazz coming. i really dig these guys.
The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads by Lift To Experience This seems like a really appropriate album to listen to on Good Friday. Damn I miss this band. If you like My Bloody Valentine you might want to give this band a shot.
