With the exception of festivals (which require planning : airfare , vacation requests, etc. ) does anyone else have a hard time maintaining excitement for a show until it's truly close as bands sell tickets six to nine months in advance?

Last night at my house party a girl flashed me to eat some of the rice I was cooking.
Plain white rice? Rice-a-Roni? We're going to need more precise data to recreate this experiment , Sir.
Or is this all a metaphor I am unfamiliar with?
Rice-a-Roni, actually. And no metaphors here. I was making myself dinner and drinking a beer as people were getting smashed all around me and this girl kept trying to put her hands in the pan to grab some of my food and I kept telling her that she's "not gettin' none of this shit," so she eventually just looked at me and flashed me. It was weird.

I can imagine. Did you offer her a scoop at that point to make her go away or did you politely nudge her ride that she probably had enough to drink?
there is now such a thing as Doritos-flavored Mountain Dew. even in my highest altered state back in the day, I can't imagine finding that appealing.
Suppose that goes with cappucino-flavored potato chips? I have a PhD in Altered States with a certification in Munchies, and cannot fathom mixing those flavors.

I'm not much of a planner so buying tickets that far in advance actually stresses me out, because I'm afraid I'll forget about a show and miss it. which I have come close to doing! it definitely depends on the artist/band though- if it were one of my must-sees I think I would be counting down for months.
I get annoyed with having to buy tickets so far in advance. My life is utterly so unpredictable that sometimes I feel like planning anything beyond next week is a challenge.

I didn't give her any because I knew if I offered her some she would try to assume ownership over my dinner and if I ever turned around she'd eat everything. She was plenty hammered when she showed up and she drove to my house, so we stole her keys from her and let her just sleep on our couch. I get sort of formidable and witty when people I don't really know try to get presumptuously buddy-buddy with me, so it worked out just fine. She huffed and walked away and everyone else in the kitchen just smiled at me as I ate and drank.

What's annoying to me is the conflicts buying in advance sometimes brings. If I bought a solo show ticket and then later find they are at a fest I am attending then I have to decide to see them twice (no big deal). But since concert tours and sport schedules aren't always announced at the same time there are tough choices to be made at that point.

I bought tickets to see Fleetwood Mac in mid-April, and the show wasn't until the end of October. I forgot about it for months, except for when I was making plans and then looking at the calendar in my phone seeing I already had them.
I have tickets to see The Who... next October. I'm probably not going to be any kind of excited about it until the week before.

I'll get jazzed about it the week or two after buying my ticket, and then I don't really think about it much until a couple weeks before the show. Still, I think I get almost as much enjoyment looking forward to concerts and vacations as much as I do for the event itself.
I had tickets to see the Stones in March, which was cancelled and rescheduled for this weekend - and then that got cancelled, too. I have tickets to see them next weekend, but after getting burnt twice now, my excitement will be very muted until they're actually taking the stage.

When you finally get to see them please let me know if it was as exciting as I imagine it would be. I am so envious of you ! That should be awesome.

Thankfully you put those dates in your phone, right? That could have been a disaster. I responded to someone else mentioning The Stones ... Between them and The Who (which I hadn't considered in my original post) I could see excitement levels slightly higher as that is music I heard in the womb so has been with me much longer. And then you have to consider the odds of being able to again. Very interesting point you made.

Keep an eye on the 'any good shows lately?' thread in about 10 days or so.
It doesn't hurt that it's going to be here:
And that's about where I'll be seated, too. What is this? A concert by ants?!
I suppose it's possible that another Florida resident with a penchant for WWE gif avatars, an overwhelming interest in streaming concerts, a focus on how much things cost, and an understated moralizing tone joined not long after Rob was banned. I think that makes sense. It also makes sense that this guy would jump right into the Arcade and start playing the same games that Rob used to. Total coincidence.
I should give this guy a shot. Hopefully he's not a degenerate, holier-than-thou scumbag like Rob was. Wherever Rob is, he can go fuck himself.
