Nobody had my name growing up, which is funny because my brothers were Josh and Zach, each of whom grew up in times when those names were extremely popular. (Case in point, my husband is the same age as Josh, and is also named Josh.) The only Hillary I knew of growing up was an old man. And the first other Hilari I knew of was not until college. Incidentally, I still remember the first time someone asked if I was named after Hillary Clinton.
If we had had children, we were going to name a girl Gretchen Calliope and a boy Wiley Thomas.
Gretchen is a bad ass name except no one wants to share with me on the these new coke bottles. or have my name on those pens at the gift shop
The record must show. This is what Rocky Mavia once looked like
Looking at the forward facing fanny pack, complete with the hooked thumb so there is no way anyone would miss it...I feel better about my 90's wallet chain.
Autumn was not a common name when I was young. Children would tease me about it. It was annoying. My sister had a different spelling for her name, but she did not get harassed like I did.
I got called "Monica Lewinski" all through 4th grade into middle school. People thought it was sooooooo funny, even though we had no concept of what had happened. Then when we got older it was fun to call me it again because suddenly we all knew what blow jobs were..... Ever since, I don't particularly like my name.
Kids are the worst.
If I ever have kids (that's a strong IF) I like Iris, Piper, & Quinn for girls, and Sagen, Jackson, & Finn for boys.
That's awful. I still get jokes from adults about my name.
My last name was hard to pronounce for other kids, so that only fueled the taunts. Everything about me just begged to be teased at that age.
My sister chose the name Piper for my niece. Her youngest is named Gavin. She named her oldest Trenton, but we all called him Trent or Trentie.

My daughter is a piper. It was going to be piper willow, but we went with Madeleine instead. I think finding out that Sarah palin has kids named piper and willow was an influencing factor.
My grandpa was Merlyn. My kids will be Merlyn. All of them.
I went to elementary school with a kid named Merlin. I also had a friend in high school whose middle name was Merwyn which may be the most name I have ever heard.
I like seeing the old names come back. I saw a great website for this not long ago. You could enter a name, and it would chart its popularity over time - or enter a year, and see the top names. Pretty much everybody in the '70s was called Jennifer.
(my name is definitely an old name like Martha and Bertha, although it has never picked back up in popularity. Whenever I run across a Bonnie, she is usually 60+. Or a dog. Bonnie is a popular dog name)
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Did you mean that as a tongue-in-cheek acknowledgement that Buddhism sensibly allows opposing dualities to coexist, or did you mean that its apparent self-negation renders it nonsensical or otherwise impractical?
We can take this to the philosophy thread if you'd like (or we can discontinue it completely); I'm just a bit of a Buddhism nerd and I like to demonstrate loving-kindness by yelling loudly about metaphysical minutiae.
I don't know enough about Buddhism to pretend to have an intelligent discussion about it. It was just a joke...
Pretty pissed. Bought tix for me and a friend to see Flume tonight months ago. I told him instead of giving me money for the ticket to just buy a tank of gas on the way to Roo. The shows tonight so I messaged him to hammer out details, and he tells me that he noticed tickets are going for $100 on stubhub so send him his because he wants to sell it. I bought him a ticket so I'd have someone to go with, not so he could cash out. Already told him id send it to him, but pretty upset about it. I'm still gonna go cuz Iv been looking forward to this one for a while. Starting to just think it's the area I live in. Ppl here are so lame. /vent

That's the rudest shit ever. No room in your life for that.

I take it he bought you the tank of gas on the way to Roo. So you are stuck.

I would say "Hey, I'll just pay you for the tank of gas and give it to someone who wants to go to the show with me" and then either give it to someone else or sell it (for face value) at the show.

I can probably find someone else to go but I don't really want to cause any problems. So I'm just gonna suck it up and go solo. I really wish I had better friends.

Does anyone here knit? I'm having pattern issues and before I scrap this pattern completely I want to know if it's me doing something wrong or the pattern itself.
Opening a cover letter with "Hello there" is an interesting choice.
Edit: Oh man I posted this way too early, this guy continues to explain he was a Lobsterman aboard the vessel The Crabby Marilyn in Middle School and lists the band he started in High School under Work Experience.
Edit #2: This guy is the gift that keeps on giving, he has a 3 page resume that includes how he was approached by some bass player of a band i've never heard of at a Guitar Center and asked to be his Guitar tech, a list of several mountains he has climbed, and the line "Returned cash found on bus to bus driver."
I'm glad you are enjoying some of the applications you are receiving. If you really want the weird responses, post a job on Craiglist. I used to post picker/packer jobs in Baltimore and would get resume or email listing how often they go to Church, how they have changed as a person since getting out of jail, how much they can bench press, or mom and dads applying for their kids so they can move out of the house. A wonderful combination of truly fun and sad at the same time.
Fortunately/unfortunately I can only hire students so there isn't much reason to post to Craigslist. The University has two different online hiring services that I use instead. The flip side of that is the majority of the people applying are looking for their first or second job and it seems most of them have no idea what they are doing. I would almost feel bad for them, but the University has a very well publicized Career Services Center that has free services such as Resume and Cover Letter checks.

Have you ever had a student come in on their first day and try to negotiate their pay rate within the first 5 minutes? That happened to me recently and it gave me a pretty good chuckle.
