I called a good friend today to wish him Happy 40th birthday and the conversation turned to music festivals for some reason. He told me about jambase (which I've heard of but never checked out) and now I see that Ringo is playing 2 hours from me in July. Shut up Dave. I have a chance to see half the Beatles in my life and I may take it.... dang it.
But it does seem like a cool site and there are more shows around here than I thought. It just sucks I have to drive so far to see so many of them. rebelbrad you didn't tell me so many people came through there. I'm jealous.
Are you still planning on going to Memphis in May? I heard Alabama Shakes will be there this year. #jealous
Oh I'll be there for sure. You will be there too.....just watch
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I am in desperate need an idea of something to go pick up for Brad for his birthday. I went to get tickets for the Aziz Ansari show here in Greenville, and it was sold out. So was the Jerry Seinfeld show. I have no freaking clue what to get him & his birthday is tomorrow.

Sometimes when I am bored at work I will wiki random stuff, then hyperlink from those pages to new topics to see how far I can get away from where I started. I get to learn weird things, and since a measurable portion of my job involves research, I can get away with my persiut of perfect lazyness.
Starting with the Nagorno-Karabakh War, I eventually found this today:
What kept me reading was not the brutality of those involved, or my empathy for the victims, or even that 'can't look away from an accident' thing. I was gobsmacked by the way those two boys systematically sold off their neighborhood acquaintences and even friends - then to start participating in the brutality. I know that in the 70's $200 is more like $1000-1200 today (inflation), and that would be a lot to a twelve-fifteen year old.
From the end of the article, as Henley was waiting for the police with what would have been the next victim - "I could have got $200 bucks for you."
Our postman has a really thick country accent. Every time I talk to him, I find myself talking like him. I hope he doesn't think I'm making fun of him lol

My accent changes severity based off of who I am talking to. I noticed it a long time ago but have never been able to control it.

I have the same problem. There should be a word for it - but I thought I was the only one who did it. After three days in Louisiana I was talking all day like a Cajun even if it was just to my kids. It embarrasses the hell out of the family when we're in an ethnic restaurant, because as krissyjo points out, it could be interpreted, rightfully so, that I am making fun of them, even though I'm not. Mrs. L calls me an "accent sponge."

Someone I knew back in college was the same way. She had went to South Carolina for like 4-5 days, came back, and was talking as if she was from Charleston. And everyone kept making fun of her for it.

I just exploded on my class and now I feel like a huge asshole.
Is it 3:45/the weekend yet?
Literally or figuratively?
Literally. I don't deal with people sleeping during my lessons and become even more irate when they respond to "wake up" with disrespect. I need a drink.
I came home, got high, and made them a quiz.

Ever hate it when there's two good shows in your area on the same night?
Darkside is playing in Boston tonight, meanwhile someone gave me tickets to see Umphrey's McGee in Providence.
That is rough.
I love both UM and Darkside, but I'd have to chose Darkside. UM always brings it, but they are a touring machine, you'll have plenty of chances to see them again. I'm just now getting into Darkside, so I could be completely off on this, but to me it seems they don't tour near as much as UM. And UM looks likely for Bonnaroo this year, whereas Darkside has been ruled out (not sure if you're going this year or not though).
Either way, you're going to see a great show tonight...enjoy!
Normally I don't pick up tickets to shows in the winter until last minute (unless it's a likely sellout), in case it snows that night and I shouldn't go. I hadn't picked up Darkside tickets for that reason. But someone was very nice and gifted the UM tickets to me and Mrs. LD, since him and his wife had other plans today.
I've seen UM at least twice before, part of their Moog 2011 set also. I'm NOT going to Roo this year - would be nice, but can't afford to swing it.

Have fun, looking forward to seeing UM again myself!

I do the same. I read somewhere once that it is primitive survival technique built in to our DNA. Basically in accident times, trying to trick the locals into thinking you're one of them so they would t kill you.

I set a new personal record for dog bites this week. Six bites total and three of those happened today. My legs are wrecked! Thankfully nothing serious.

Yikes!! Is that a somewhat normal thing for you, van-Jesus? Getting bit by dogs?

Unfortunately. My FedEx route is in a rural area where everyone has dogs. No leash laws means quite a few encounters. I've had to fight off 2 attacks in the past. Scary shit! The awesome animal encounters totally outweigh the negative ones by far though.

Eesh, no leash laws? I didn't know that was even a thing. Do you have anything to protect yourself from particularly mean creatures?
What kind of awesome animal encounters have you experienced? Friendly pets who greet you with a wag of their tail instead of sinking their teeth into you?

I never carry protection. After 5 years I know 90% of the houses that have bad dogs. This week was just a bunch of random/new customers that had sneak attack dogs. They act all cool until you get 5 steps from your door then they grab a leg.
As for the cool animals there are tons. Several dogs that jump in with me as soon as I open my door. A goat that sprints toward me when I drive up and bleats like crazy when I get out. I usually chase him around for a few minutes.
Left my door open while I made a delivery at a free-range chicken farm and came back to four hens and a rooster in my van.
I also had my first encounter with a wolf a few weeks ago. A really chill full-blooded wolf that somebody rescued as a cub.
